Ben’s Pet Foolery Instagram page has a whopping audience of 2.5 million followers which is incredible keeping in mind that the artist initially didn’t intend to turn it into a series. Today, Pixie and Brutus have a huge fan base online and Ben has to keep his comic series efficient and engaging as the first day he released the comics.

That doesn’t mean, though, that coming up with fresh ideas for his continuous comic series is easy. “With animal comics about recurring characters and a continuing story (i.e Pixie and Brutus), I find it’s getting harder and harder to come up with new ideas and jokes,” he previously told us in an interview.

On the other hand, the creator of Pet Foolery is always up to something new and exciting so we reached out to him to see what he’s been busy working on.

“I’m still working on the Pixie and Brutus graphic novel! I’m a lot closer to finishing now, of course. It should be up on a crowdfunding site (probably Kickstarter) in the near future,” Ben told us and added that he’s very excited about it. Make sure to follow Pet Foolery on Instagram to get the new updates on the graphic novel and see sneak peeks into the work in progress!

When asked whether there are some new characters introduced to the comics, Ben said that he recently introduced a Belgian Malinois character named Dexter. “He and Brutus are developing a sort of friendemy relationship,” he explained.

We also wondered whether characters change with time, and this is what the creator had to say: “The designs are the thing that’s changed the most, but their characters have evolved a bit too.”

“I’ve never really included current events in any of my comics,” Ben told us some time ago. “It’s not that it’s a conscious decision, it just doesn’t happen naturally for me. Maybe if my comics were more about humans and less about cats and dogs, then it’d be different.”

When it comes to the adventures of Pixie and Brutus, Ben says that it’s really just whatever he comes up with. “Naturally, Pixie and Brutus comics aren’t the only comic ideas that pop into my head. Sometimes I think of a joke or story that doesn’t really fit with P and B, so I make it using other recurring characters or even completely new characters instead,” Ben explained.

What is the Story of Brutus and Pixie?

If it’s your first time seeing these wonderful animal comics, you might be wondering about these characters’ prehistory, what’s the relationship between them, and where it all begins.

The mighty duo — a girl kitten named Pixie and a boy German shepherd named Brutus — are introduced by their owner, Tony. Although not much is known about him, it seems that he’s both a cat and a dog person and a loving master! However, Tony isn’t the original owner of Brutus, but rather an adoptive master who has taken in Brutus after he had finished his military career.

Brutus used to work as a Military dog, hence his scars and a certain PTSD he has after his career. Pixie, on the other hand, is a joyful, happy-go-lucky kitten, a polar opposite to Brutus. By the way, speaking about Brutus’ scars. Turns out he got them the same day his previous owner was killed.

Pixie and Brutus forge an interesting relationship: although Pixie sometimes gets on Brutus’ nerves, he guards her with his own life, and Pixie enjoys the company of this tough shepherd. However, although the pair and their dynamics seem very realistic, the story of Pixie and Brutus isn’t based on a real story or real animals, for that matter.

Because they’re such an odd pair, even the most ordinary happenings are tinged with comical notes. And that’s, in addition to the unmistakable cuteness of these BFFs, what got millions of comic readers hooked and waiting for the next episodes of the Brutus and Pixie comic!

7.

How many Episodes do Pixie and Brutus have?

If you’ve already fallen for this pair, you’ll be happy to learn that since these animal comics were first launched on September 9, 2018, they’ve appeared in over 100 episodes! That’s tons of fun, lots of adventures, and a positive overload of cuteness.

Now, some gossip has been circulating about a Pixie and Brutus Dies story, but we couldn’t confirm whether it’s real. And if it turns out to be real, don’t tell us! We wouldn’t want to see a Brutus and Pixies Death episode and rather continue believing the two of them are up for their next adventure.

So, for now, let’s enjoy the cuteness of Pixie and Brutus comics instead of thinking they might be coming to a closure. Continue scrolling for more of their adorable foolery!
