Therapy Dog Takes A Different Toy To Bed Each Night

Every dog loves toys, but 3-year-old therapy dog Mojito’s love for them is something else. For 1,5 years now the pooch has been bringing toys with her to bed, each night picking a different toy after searching the whole house for a specific item the doggie wants to sleep with that evening.

“Mojito has tons of toys … way too many,” Kim Downie, Mojito’s mom, told The Dodo. “She insists on picking one out every time we go to the store and of course BarkBox sends her new toys every month.”

“She is very specific about what she chooses to take to bed. She will search the house and empty her toy boxes until she finds whatever one she is looking for.” The toys stay upstairs until the pooch decides otherwise. “If we move them back downstairs, she will carry them right back up,” Downie said.

Scientists claim dogs have neophilia – preference for new things. But, if you want to take a break from getting your pooch new toys, researchers suggest you can pretend the toy is new by adding a different scent to it. You can also try hiding it from a dog for some time and then making it re-appear, or just playing with a dog and an old toy to change its meaning and spark the dog’s interest.

Sometimes she even shares them with her owner’s cat

She has a purposeful look as she carries her toy. A lady with a mission. Glad she is spoiled and well loved.

I wish I could afford this many toys for my dog! They cost more than children's toys!

I am not surprised at all its a golden. Notice they're all stuffed toys. I have a 11-1/2 year old golden. Lucy has become very selective in her toys. She only prefers stuffed animals which make animal sounds. A squeaky toy does nothing for her. Lucy doesn't sleep with them, she takes one each time on leaving the house or office (Lucy goes to work with me). They are usually left in the car that I unload when most end up in there. On a walk I'M the one who usually ends up carrying it after a while. Even as a puppy Lucy didn't care for hard toys. I think its the soft mouth in goldens. If I knew I lived close to Mojito I'd give the family about 3 green trash bags of stuffed toys Lucy no longer touches. I'm so glad they're so tolerant with Mojito. Goldens are just special and so amazingly intelligent. Its a breed trait with stuffed toys, I've seen numerous ones doing the same types of behaviors. Lord Tweedmouth should be given the highest honor possible for this contribution to the world.

This is one of the cutest stories I've seen on here. How adorable is this dog? My dog just doesn't play with her toys unless I wag them in front of her then she grabs them and walks away with them and leaves them!

My Airedale growing up would "swap" toys w me. He'd leave a ball and take a stuffed toy. My dog now has his "baby" he takes everywhere.

Aaawww... That's adorable... I can relate to that. It must be the one toy at a certain day! (though in my case were just talking about pillows)

Have you ever thought to yourself that not all people are able to have children so to some people these are their children. Quit being so heartless. I have a dog and he is my baby and I have a baby on the way... They both will have a special place in my heart.
