There are so many dog breeds, it's incredibly easy to mistake one pooch for another. Luckily, St. Louis-based artist Grace Gogarty (a.k.a. Little Tunny) has created a comprehensive comic series that will help you identify most of the dog types.
"I've been drawing comics since I was a kid," Grace told Bored Panda. "I absolutely love animals, so that's usually my focus! I worked as a supervisor at a doggy daycare for years and got to meet lots of dogs. The cartoon dogs featured in this guide are the breeds I met the most of."
The artist has divided the series into three parts - big, medium, and small dog breeds, so no k9s are left behind. Great Danes? Check. Border Collies, Yorkshire Terriers? Yep. Pugs, Golden Retrievers, and German Shepherds? Yup. "Sadly, I haven't met every dog in the word yet so that I couldn't write about them all," Grace said. "Although I stereotype them, all dogs are wonderful individuals, so I couldn't possibly pick a favorite breed!"
Among the animals Gogarty owns, there's one pooch as well. "His Name is Huey, and he is an enigma. We have no idea what kind of breeds he's comprised of!" Scroll down to meet the dog memes, and remember - even if some traits sound better than others, every dog deserves a to be a pet. Even if it pees all over your new rug.

I always feel sorry for huskies who are adopted by lazy people. They should get a lazy dog or a goldfish.
Labs are great! They are smart, and loyal,....if you can keep them at home. They're Big-Time roamers. Unfortunately, they don't do all that well in the house. My black Lab, 'Captain Black' had a lethal tail, which was always sweeping back and forth. Unfortunately, he could clear a coffee table in a matter of just a few seconds. The Captain was the main reason why I happily switched from red wine to white wine. Oh, and the Captain sure could fart up a storm too. :D
2 Dobermans used to bark furiously at me every morning as I walked to school bus. One morning I spoke to them. Then on, our routine was they would wait for me eagerly every morning, and I would stop and talk to them. They were happy to see me.
Nonono german Shepards are just floofy boofs, and squishy boopers
The Yorkshire terrier will also show its affection by nipping your ankles. They have teeth sharp enough to draw blood at every nip. (Don't tell me that I should break them of that habit, please -- they're not my dogs but a friend's.)
I had a friend that bred Yorkies, they we're all terrors. After I fell down the stairs due to them biting my ankles, I never went back!
Load More Replies...my yorkie was kept in a cage the 1st 4 months of his life :( so he hates being picked up and sometimes even loved on...he pulls back, like he feels like he doesn't deserve the love :( it's heartbreaking...he will not get on your lap, but he will snuggle NEXT to you...sweet boy is going to be 14 this year...and he is my heart <3 20170823_1...3e15f2.jpg
Have had 4 over the years and all separate irreplaceable characters.
Load More Replies...Love my Yorkie. We trained him NOT to bark but he "gruffs" at the window, wanting desperately to bark at the dogs walking by. He likes attention, but on his terms and not too much! Too much attention and he'll walk off and go lay by himself, away from me. At first this behavior was disconcerting, but I've grown accustomed to it. ;) He's never bit anyone's ankles, although he did chase a jogger... once! I was horrified. He's a great little guard dog, a wonder to hike with... he just goes and goes and can't imagine life without him. copper-5a8...28922c.jpg
mine didn't bark for 5 months i didn't know he could bark, he still does not bark
Load More Replies...My yorkie begs to be picked up, but runs from me when I reach for her. I taught her when she was young not to bite and she never bites anyone. She rarely barks. But she is always getting in to something and is always on an adventure but she is most certainly loved by all who know her.
Territorial, heart of a lion, napoleon syndrome, fussy eaters, funny, fast, and cat like in many ways.
I have a half Yorkie and Half Maltese, A MORKIE. So far she loves being on my lap when not playing
I also have a Morkie. He is 2 1/2.he is always in my lap then when hes napping I will go into the den and start softly playing the piano and here he comeshe jumps up on my leg and after about the 5th time he will let me pick him up and he loves to play the piano. After about 3-5 minutes he passes smooth out on the keys. Its quite adorable;> hes my love
Load More Replies...I have one, and she would sit on my lap all day if I would sit still!!! lol :)
I have a Yorkie and she's precious! Yes, she can rip the flesh from your bones, but she's a snuggle bunny!
Agree with this. "Please, please, please pick me up!" Er...put me down immediately!" 20170801_1...d73bf9.jpg
Agree with this..."I shall sit on my rump staring up at you until you pick me up." "Oh, you've picked me up! You must put me down now...let me go, let me go!!!" 20170801_1...a8b14e.jpg
i grew up with a yorkie. they're ok, for a little dog. ours was a lady but was territorial, would square up against any gigantic dog in her territory. Also had a tendency to sneak off and go for walkies for miles. The mailman once brought her back from a busy intersection 4 miles away. She was 14 inches tall and weighed like 10 pounds, the f**k was she going?
I knew a Yorkie that was so timid, it totally surprised me. She was a little sweetie though and loved to be held.
What the vet says I have ADHD? OK pick me up...no now wait not that how about a walk OK then no wait a minute I just want to take a nap.........CHECK.
What? the vet said I had ADHD? What gave him that Idea? Oh pick me up no no don't do that it's time for a nap...........................CHECK
My yorkie - Bella nips my labs legs and he cries! She (Bella) will even stands right outside the door ready to pounce him when they go outside - I have to pull him he's about 70lbs to get him out the door!
I've had 3 Yorkies, including one presently. My sister has had 2, including one presently. None of them bite ankles or are aggressive. They like to be snuggled and they're fantastic dogs. One was like the oldest soul who cared about everyone and loved us deeply. One is very headstrong and one is very protective of herself. They're all full of personality.
Worst breed in the world. High yelpy bark for three hours straight, yeah that won't get annoying.
@justin Helmcap - I hear you are just as annoying.
Load More Replies...I have 2 Yorkies and a Biewer. They are very well educated, They are not barkers. Dogs end up being how you train them. These are friendly, happy little guys who always seem to be smiling. Very smart and obedient. If your dog is a mess, you have to review what you have been doing to get that behavior. If you can't handle it, hire a specialist.
I had a Jack Russel terrier who was overprotective. He would bark at my friends, and threaten them if they came anywhere near me. He didn't mean to behave badly, it was his nature.
My grandparents have always had yorkshire terriers. They had a small one before with the long smooth brown-black fur and a bowtie. :P fun dog but she would bark sooooo much. My grandmum couldn't deal with it when she passed away so we got another one. A bit bigger and shorter grey-beige fur now. Always excited to see someone. She'll come running, then drop to the floor as if she'd been hit, just so you'd pick her up so she can lick your face. (Don't worry, nobody hits her, she's just does that) Totally spoiled (by grandmum ofcourse...) and will always be found on someone's lap. :P
My purebred registered yorkie stands back and watches sadly while the cats eat his dinner but treed 2 raccoons at the same time last summer He goes outside and barks the yard at night before bedbto make sure the wild critters maintain respect. He is unable to descend from the bed independantly if I am home but figures it out fine when he is alone. He woke me up barking frantically and I was therefore the first one to call 911 when the neighbour's house was on fire. He has a sense of humour and I occasionally catch him snickering while chasing him around the couch with my best undies in his teeth. He visits neighbours when we go for a walk. Everyone greets him "Hi Fred" before they speak to me. One of the biggest personalities I know.
Load More Replies...Hmz.. they shouldn't be picked up and carried around. That's what purses are for.
Mine loves being picked up... and then 2 second after he hates being picked up
Load More Replies...We had two Yorkies. The male barked for a while when someone new was in the house. He woke us up at 2 am when an intruder was trying to break in. The female only barked if something was wrong or if a child was trying to pet her. The male never bit but the female bit small children who pursued her. She also bit the noses of really big dogs. After biting the nose of the Golden Retriever down the street, she took out after the ankles. We thought the Golden was going to have her for lunch! They were wonderful dogs and we miss them very much!
Still miss ours. He was awesome. Never really had to train him and he listened perfectly. Would just walk near you and come when called. Kinda obsessed about bananas and would do anything for 1. (Stole a whole bunch of the table once... Silly dog) He hated water so when it was bath time, I would just get in the shower with him and close the door. He loved getting brushed and groomed though.
Also Food machine, also needs unlimited times of trecking unless it's hot.
The border collie needs to have work to do or it will be neurotic. If you don't have time to spend training your dog, get something less intelligent. Sometimes a border collie will herd your kids to keep them from getting separated from you.
Tsundere lol that actually sums it up pretty well. Mine sometimes wants to be pet hard and long, but mostly she'll lay down somewhere close and love you from a distance - just don't touch her or she'll leave.
"BorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBork"
You're thinking about akitas. Shibas (mostly) like petting. Akitas are like "no way, dude" as they slip just out of your reach. Not fan of strangers.
I've come to know boxers as social dogs that love to play and hug...
Endless barker, always cold, always hungry, lives in its own world.
In my seventy plus years, I have always been a dog lover/owner. Big dogs, medium dogs, and small ones. But when I got my first shih-tzu I've never looked back since. They're very energetic, love kids, easy to hold, and the most expensive part to them is the grooming every 6-7 weeks. They don't eat a lot, and best of all, they don't leave big piles that need cleaning up. Oh, and they look like hairy little children, in need of affection. I love my CharlieK. Period!
Very cute. But you missed Chow Chow, my favorite breed. Probably beacause I also like cats =]
I LOVE my four-legged children! They never demand anything but love and affection, which they return with interest. And they will love you, no matter who, or what, you are. 00-Yep-5a8...9e0ffb.gif
lucky for you! mine demands the food right out of your mouth. no, not that food, that ones gross. the one that's in your mouth right now. no no once you take it out of your mouth it's not the one in your mouth anymore!! can i eat it directly from your mouth? no? why not!!!

Yes! My dad has a Jack Russell Terrier and he's very similar to a rat terrier. He's extremely possessive of Dad to the point where we have to lock him downstairs when the grandkids come over, otherwise he attacks them!
Load More Replies...Very cute so many so spot on. What about Australian Cattle Dogs? Don't they rate?
I have a poodle mix and can confirm that this checks out. Would also add: refuses to be ignored.
Bichon: sprinting in circles around kitchen or napping. no in between.
I have a Boxer and this was pretty accurate. They did forget the snoring, farting and slobbery kisses! 😁
NO miniature pincher??? They are the kings of the toy breed and they show it! They do all the barking, the whining, and prancing in the kingdom! Plus they will either bit you or lick you to death!!
Loved the descriptions, but I learned more about each breed from the comments then the drawings. I loved reading everyone's stories about their dogs, sooooo funny! My family has had a few dogs over the years, different breeds, and some were on this list, and the descriptions fit. More so the descriptions from the comments, but some from the list too.
Furry Kids are the best kind, wish I could have some again but living up on the 4th floor makes it just a bit difficult*sigh*
Buried my last cat 2 yrs. ago and new landlord says no more animals in the building. :( I miss having the companionship even though she was a bit demanding. Actually, not so much demanding as just climbing into my lap and helping herself to whatever I was eating. lol.. I still remember getting up to get a glass of milk from the fridge and coming back to find she had snagged the entire T-bone off my plate and stalked off with it.
Chow-Chow: -Dude... Leave me alone... Let me sleep... -*leash is grabbed* Outside!? WE're gonna go outside!? YESSSSS! *runs around, waking up downstairs neighbors and ripping carpet apart* -A sound! It came from the door! Must push my head against it and huff! -Oh, you wanna rob us? Go right ahead... You want to leave now!? Heh, go ahead and try it, pal. -YOU LEFT ME HERE ALL ALONE! I HATE YOU! I LOVE YOU! I HATE YOU! I LOVE YOU!... I'm tired... -otherwise enchanted cocoa puff
Cocker spaniel. : - Will try to "track and hunt" everything, whether or not it's alive is irrelevant.
Too bad I don't see a Cocker Spaniel there... they've been my love, my companions, my friends.
No terriers? I have a rat terrier, he loves long walks, can find chocolate no matter where it is hidden, loves to play squeaky ball throw and chase but won't bring it back to me
My experience with a rottweiler is "looks like a tough guard dog but most people can out run them..." The one that we were taking care of with our two dogs (one a chow mix and the other a black lab/shepherd mix) could never keep up with the other two dogs nor our neighbor's dogs. He was always left in their dust.
I have a border collie husky mix, hes not like a husky or a border collie at all. Except the running part.
Do Shetland Sheepdog! - herding instinct but no sheep so probably herding shrubs and children - one evolutionary step away from speaking English - happy to be here
Dachsund:. Wind up barker toy. Will stare you down until beady eyes melt your heart for a taste of whatever you're eating. Lives to trip you. Underdog? No. UNDERFOOT. Pee outside? Goodness no. I might get my feet wet. But if yours get wet stepping in my puddle, that's cool. Where's Daddy and when's snuggle time? Clean up my pee and feed me, then you're going to snuggle me. Hit repeat and do it all again tomorrow.
I would like to know what would have been said about Australian Cattle Dogs
missed English Shepard, not that I'm surprised they never get any recondition.
I have an eight week old black Golden Shepherd (Golden Retriever/German Shepherd). Going through a tough time right now with the whole biting thing. Trying to use positive cues but right now my arms are completely cut up by her fangs.
In that context a pet is a pat as in a scratch behind the ears. Forever. Don't stop. Ever lol
Load More Replies...Is it really so common to find all these pure breed dogs in shelters in the US? Here in Brazil you'll pretty much only ever find mutts in shelters - breed dogs are too expensive, only occasionally you'll see someone donate one, regardless of age or conditions - but whenever I see these posts, people will always talk about having a bunch of breed rescue dogs.
Rafaella, approximately 25% of the dogs in shelters are pure breed dogs. Lots of folks adopt dogs not understanding how much time and commitment they require and those pups end up in shelters. I work in rescue and we have SO MANY pure breed dogs it's crazy! There are even rescues all over the country that are breed specific so they can offer the appropriate care for specific breeds - so Labradors, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, Grayhounds, Bulldogs, and tons of others have whole rescue organizations dedicated to rescuing and finding homes for specific breeds. We have lots of mutts too, but there are pure breeds everywhere. Pretty odd, huh?

HAHAHAHAHAHA this has something true, but please #AdoptDontShop, if you´re searching for a special dog breed because of its character you can also find it at the shelters, but all the mutts´re also adorable, plus usually mutts get older than purebred dogs, especially the smaller ones!!!
Dobermann: That's not true ! Who wrote it? I bet that person has never had or saw a Dobermann in his/her life. They are gentle, but only to their family and their friends. Because trust me, you would not want to meet them with its owner in a dark... They were used during WWII by Germans,,, and do you know why? No? Then maybe you should take some history lessons on the Internet. But you can bet they weren't scared of anything. Because of their "role" in WWII people hated them later, they were scared of them, they knew you shouldn't mess with them. These dogs are not for fun, they are not your sleeping buddies. And believe me, if you know how to properly raise them and train them, you don't need a gun to protect yourself..... And one more thing: if you see a Dobermann who is scared of himself you know his owner doesn't have what it takes to raise him and you can bet he doesn't treat him well and he is hurting him. _FACT_ I know, I have them my whole life.
I took it that the tv lies about them being scary because they are even afraid of themselves like being afraid of your own shadow. I grew up with Dobies and I too defend their reputation. I never had an aggressive one and in my experience they are women’s dogs gravitating more to the females in the home. I have had five between childhood at home and then on my own and all of them were like that. They can be trained like many other breeds to be protectors making excellent guard dogs but as family pets they are wonderful . Society has chosen different breeds throughout time to demonize and that breed suffers for it. At one time it was the Doberman, another it was Rotties. As of late it’s been pitties.all of which I adore and have owned both Pitties and Dobies without incident. I had close friends with Rotties and never a problem. It’s all in who owns them, how they’re trained, and WHAT they are trained for. like German Shepherds can be viscious as part of K-9 but are great as family dogs
Load More Replies...All people I know who had a dog were oh so happy to not have one anymore. None of my friends got a second dog after the first one passed away and they all enjoyed the newly-gained free time...
Then it was the correct decision not to get another doggie for those people. Caring for a dog (or any animal) appropriately, takes lots of time, money, and love. I cherish my pups and would be very unhappy without one, and I will continue to rescue as long as I'm able. But if a person does not enjoy and/or care for their pup(s) fully, they absolutely should not get another.
