Do It Yourself projects allow people to reuse items lying around the house to create something cool instead of throwing them away. However, just because you can DIY anything, it doesn't mean you should. A subreddit with a pretty self-explanatory title (DiWHY) is collecting the worst DIY fails, and they are so dreadfully awful, you might feel like Leonardo Da Vinci after checking these bad ideas out.
Basically, these DIY ideas belong to one of the two groups: a) a DIY project is so bad, it shouldn't exist, to begin with; b) the execution turned out horribly wrong. From leaving a print of your baby's bottom on a bowl to preserving childhood toys like failed biological experiments, some people should really consult others about their latest DIY crafts. Actually as someone with long thick hair her scalp won't burn especially if she has it in a braid like that with her part covered. Also her hair is probably pretty hot so not having a had in addition is going to allow more heat to escape, which will keep her cooler. So I would say this is great.

If you want to upcycle the original, just tie a nice bow around it or something, don't destroy it by cutting out the top and exposing your head to the sun!

The hole in the top provides for better reception of alien rays. It would be even better with a little bit of foil on top.
You had a hat, bought extra stuff now you have a partial hat, makes no sense.
Not a bad idea. I have a hat that is damaged, but I could do this with it instead of throwing it away. I wouldn't do it to a perfectly good hat though.
Next project--sew colorful cloth around the cup from original hat. Now you have a floppy-brimmed hat!
If the original hat got a hole in it, I could see doing something like this to salvage it. Otherwise, it's just unnecessary.

This is actually a very cute idea. It's no different than a visor. The only thing I would have done differently would be to sew a matching piece of cloth around the upper part that was cut to make it look more even.
That's actually a very old idea for getting blonde highlights without getting sun on your face.

As someone with a large head and thick hair, most sun/beach hats sold at big box stores and beach shops dont fit me so, i think this is aa brilliant solution to my problem
And use the crown as a yarmulke. If you're not Jewish, surely you have a Jewish friend you can give it as a gift!
Not to mention you would have to aquire some big a*s hat to be able to cut it and that still fits your head...

On the positive side, I like this entire collection because it shows me people are still out using their brains, being creative, no-matter how bizarre and are willing to put it out there for us to see. It sure beats beating fake people and animals up on a screen all day. This shows at least some people are still trying to recycle and use their brains. Good Work to All who contributed .
