DIY Youtuber Amber Scholl has done her most iconic tutorial yet
That’s right, she made a dress out of trash bags
And shared the whole process in a step-by-step tutorial
First she had to shop for supplies
Aside from the trash bags, a base for the dress and some crafty materials were all she needed
Then she got busy crafting the details out of the bags
Decorating the base of the dress
With trash bag ‘roses’
Then she did the same with an old skirt she found in her closet
“Honestly I think that this is the best DIY I’ve ever done!”
Here’s the full making-of video
Here’s how people reacted

Share on FacebookSorry, but the dress wasn’t made out of trash bags at all. It was embellished with trash bags.
I'd be a rich man if I had a dollar every time someone is described as a YouTube star.

Hmmmm, somehow being called “trashy” has never been a big concern in my life. If you’re being called trashy on such a regular basis, you may have bigger problems. Well that, and people just suck.
I don't think that that dress would be allowed in a prom... (the title says it is a prom dress)
Just because it's DIY doesn't mean it's not trashy. Prom used to be a time to get a fancy dressy dress, guys in a suit or tux, the first time we would really dress up like grown-ups. The revealing dresses, usually so sort the cheeks show, and casual dress the boys do is really disappointing. I'm not a prude... FAR from it. But it would be nice to see formal dresses for prom. Every other dance, by all means, wear whatever you want. But Prom should be formal.
eh I disagree. Current high school student and I, among others, could care less about prom. If they want to dress that way, then let them (not the revealing outfits though ... at least not in a school setting).

So she glued SOME trash bag decorations on a skirt and a body shaper... yes, she's the next Betsy Johnson

'Iconic tutorial'. Just as iconic as the icon living Jayden Smith. Way to go, Bored Panda
I really don't care about other people call me trashy. I won't spend so much time and energy to do such a trash bag decorated dress just to tell others they are right. whether they are right or not is none of my business.
I feel like making the effort to find existing clothes to glue plastic bags to is not the same as making a dress.
People actually watched this video til the end?? I got to 1:04 and had to stop it...this chick is F'N annoying as hellf#ck!! How fake. I thought she made the whole/complete dress out of trash bags but used a bodysuit and sheer skirt. Smh
Siiiiigh - with that comment - NO ONE was calling her "trashy". I would have considered it a high compliment. I HATE these "headlines". And that's NOT a "dress made from trash bags". Honesty - please?
....... I could use trash bags to decorate my dress if you want..... I was hoping she'd actually cover the black dress with real trash bags.
Talk about click bate. That was NOT an entire dress made from trash bags.
She's called Trashy then shows up to prom with her a*s out?
... it didn't even post my photo? Ok I mean her IMG_3576-5...d0d4ab.jpg

They have that contest every year... some of the designs are AMAZINGLY creative and formal. Lovely stuff.

I remember seeing a DIY on how to make actual dresses from rubbish bags in a women's magazine back in the late 80s :P
Punks in 80es has done it already. good festival ware dont have to care :)
I guess prom dresses these days don't leave to much to the imagination.
Caroline Driver - I agree with you. It's similar to when people say something is awesome. Is it? Does it really fill you with awe? Or when something is 'genius'. It really bothers me.
To bad that damage to the environment that was avoided by repurposing unwanted clothes instead if them ending up in landfill has been counteracted by the use BRAND NEW PLASTIC BAGS. Now you've ruined a skirt, a different piece of shapewear and tge environment.
Kudos for her quality work, but No way any daughter of mine would be going to prom in that dress. She's supposed to be going to prom Not going on as the opening act ! "Trashy" is a pun, it's an accurate description.
I have an old carnival costume idea book for kids and here is a dress made of trashbags, if she can norwegian she can borrow it XD Zhde6rC.jpg
Seriously if this is the best you can do take up another hobby. All you did with the trash bags was make flowers out of them. I remember doing the same thing in second grade art class when I was six. And the skirt was so see through I would be amazed if was seen as appropriate prom attire. It was so sleazy and see through. If this is what you usually wear then no wonder people called you "trashy".
