Woman Serves Rabbit Stew For Themed Party, Guests Flip Out After Realizing It Contains Actual Rabbit Meat

Cooking dinner for one sometimes feels like a quest already, doing that for a group is a challenge of a different proportion. It’s not easy to feed a bunch of hungry mouths because every one of them has different preferences. Some might even have dietary restrictions or allergies, which is another hoop for the host to jump through. Taking everything into consideration, such a group dinner requires nearly as much planning as robbing a bank.

A woman on Reddit spoke about her experience of hosting a themed dinner for around 20 people. What started as a wonderful night based on Lord of the Rings shortly turned into guests freaking out, kids crying, and the host’s efforts going down the drain. Under the username u/VividPomelo4981, the woman shared her confusion about people’s reactions to a dish she served. Apparently, certain guests were shocked to know what they were eating, despite the name of the meal stating exactly what it was. It led to a discussion online and people scrambling to understand, who’s in the wrong here.

To better understand the tough spot the OP was in, it’s important to remember that hosting a large dinner might require catering to different diets. A 2022 survey found that 52% of people follow specific requirements when it comes to their eating habits, compared to 39% in 2021.

Vegetarianism and veganism are two of the most popular diets. Following the first one, people abstain from consumption of any type of meat, whether it’s poultry, seafood, or other animal flesh. Data shows that the number of vegetarians in the US has been growing, as it went from 5% in 2018 to 10% in 2022. The latter diet is based on plants, from devouring them raw to turning them into delicious meals. The vegan population also seems to be growing, going from 3% of people in the US in 2018, to 6% in 2023.

Be that as it may, carnivores still comprise the largest part of the pie. However, as the OP’s situation showed, they might not be in favor of all kinds of meat. When it comes to its types, pork is the most popular choice worldwide, followed by chicken and beef. The infamous rabbit meat takes the honorable 10th place on the list (making it one of the possible explanations for the negative reactions to the OP’s stew). Yet there are types way more unusual than rabbit; for instance, horse meat—an aliment popular in Italy.

The topic of meat consumption is closely tied to animal welfare. As a matter of fact, their well-being is the reason nearly 90% of vegans choose this diet. Research shows that people’s views about animal rights have changed over the years; more of them agree that the critters should have more rights. In addition to that, humans are opposing the use of animals for scientific research (in the US, 52% are against it).

Hunting is another controversial topic when it comes to animal welfare. The level of support from society varies depending on the reason behind it. When it comes to legal hunting for reasons such as meat, wildlife management, or protection, the vast majority (80%) of people in the US are not against it. However, trophy hunting is nearly unanimously condemned around the world—the number of people who oppose it globally ranges from 75% to 96%.

The OP’s Lord of the Rings dinner shows that guessing everyone’s preferences might be ‘Mission: Impossible’. Some people are fine with meat provided by local hunters, others would rather hunt it down themselves at a local Costco. Some guests don’t mind the type of meat that is served, others might be disgusted by the choice. Most importantly, some of them wonder what certain dishes comprise before trying them, others grumble about it after all is said and done.

The host’s post created quite a buzz in the comment section, yet the internet seemed to agree on one thing – she was not in the wrong

I’m just flabbergasted, honestly. I don’t get it. What the hell is wrong with eating rabbit? An animal always has to die for you to eat meat, what in the hell did they think? This is just unhinged, I’m leaning towards your solution to just ditch the weirdo. Why spend time tiptoeing around someone who suddenly goes into a rage frenzy over completely random, insane things? No thank you.

I just don't like the taste - I didn't know what it was when I ate it... but rabbit? One of the top three thing I ever ate was a properly prepared rabbit. People in different parts of the country eat different things: raccoons, opossum, squirrels, rattlesnakes... it's more of what your area finds "normal".

In the UK people were encouraged to keep and breed rabbits during WWII as they were an easy way to provide much needed protein.

I'm a vegetarian. Absolutely NTA. What did they think was in the rabbit stew? Also, I fully agree that certain animals in certain areas should be hunted because of overpopulation which can result in these animals becoming an invasive species that will 100% negatively affect other animals in the area, including humans, especially if said humans own farmland. Rabbits can devastate a farm and that is the human's livelihood. Back to the point of the post, the dish was very clearly labeled rabbit stew. Does this friend groups have a habit of labeling food as something other than what it actually is? Or are some these a*****e friends in denial of some kind and thought it was actually some other grocery store meat? They're acting like OP kidnapped and cooked someone's pet rabbit. The rabbit was sustainably sourced, which is more than grocer's can say about their meat. OP is NTA. It's not their fault they have idiots for friends.

The UK has an issue with deer - because in about the 13th century we wiped out the last of our large predators. Our current largest land predator is the badger and while I wouldn't want to come across an angry badger I wouldn't put money on one being able to bring down a deer! Culling/hunting is a necessary thing and I'd be pissed if I thought they weren't eating/selling that meat.

I was going to say the same thing. They clarified what they meant by "Lembas" by describing what it actually is. For anything without an explainer, you'd have to assume it is what it was labeled as. There are a lot of suburban USA types who only eat Beef/Chicken/Pork/Fish and that's it. If it's not one of those 4, it's not edible, not okay to eat, or somehow immoral to eat (according to them).

This post irritates me. I often wish we had reasonable access to a wider variety of meats like they do in Europe. Veal, venison, lamb, various wild birds. Even duck. Here you're not supposed to eat the "pretty" animals. We only want a thick chunk of breast meat, when the thigh is where the flavor is. We've bred our pork to something flavorless and entirely uninteresting. People think ground beef with a very low fat content is better. All that being said, she's a dope to think she can serve these people rabbit. This thread is nonsense because of that.

I do agree completely that we need to have a much wider variety of meat in grocery stores, that way people would find it "acceptable." I use Wildfork because they have a lot of more uncommon meats; that's beside the point, though. Maybe if people did see the less common meats in places like Albertson's or Safeway, they would be okay with it.

They were idiots. If they don't know what is in rabbit stew, they should have asked first, before putting it on their plates. To be fair, Welsh rabbit (as a variant on the spelling of Welsh rarebit) doesn't contain rabbit but it doesn't look like it would either. Rabbit stew, on the other hand, doesn't hide the fact it contains meat.

why would anyone assume rabbit stew contains no rabbit? rabbit is very tasty and sustainable. a while back I did a Chinese style rabbit in plum sauce and it was delicious (inspired by rabbit braised with plums which I'd had at a foodie pub some years before) it's good meat. I had pet rabbits growing up, and we more recently had pet chickens (one of which we ate when he died after getting in a fight with another rooster, as his breed is considered a delicacy, and we were curious, and thought it better than binning or burning him, which is what you're MEANT to do with dead chickens) I can't imagine assuming something called Rabbit Stew contained any meat other than rabbit.

Like it's a massive reach, but maybe if it was bright orange or accidentally labelled veg and someone didn't know people eat rabbit they could've thought it to be carrot stew or something. But no, everyone was well aware it was a MEAT stew, yet they didn't think 'rabbit stew' had rabbit meat in it, but some other animal???

Obviously labeling it as rabbit stew was enough. People that have generally never seen the animals and especially not how they are kept when they are bred for the meat, will be the ones preaching most and getting offended by others. It is the complete lack of context that makes this so ridiculous. My grandfather had a small farm and I helped him butcher animals for dinner since I was a child. I never had issues eating meat. They were bred for that purpose and they were treated well. One thing I haven't been able to do since I was a kid and that is wasting meat. That animal was killed, not eating its meat is disrespectful, it is utterly wasteful. The same goes for hunted animals. You hunt them, you eat them.

And one other thing in the same line for people that do eat dairy, but don't eat veal because they feel it is sad or unethical to eat veal.... In order to produce milk the cow needs to get a calf first (that's how it works). Half those calfs will be female and have value as a milk cow once they grow up. The other half is male and has virtually no or sometimes negative monetary value. Milk cattle bulls don't grow up to produce meat efficiently, so they are either brought up to about 6 or 7 months, bothered and sold as veal or if there is no market for veal - which is more and more because people think veal is unethical - they will get euthanized on their first or second day and the carcas will be destructed (not fit for consumption, not even for animal food, because of the euthanization). At the same time another animal, a chicken, pig, or maybe even a meat cow is bred and butchered extra, because you do feel ok eating that meat.

The OP is absolutely NTA. Before I continue: I am an American (born and raised.) I would have been incredibly pissed to be offered RABBIT stew, if it was ANY other kind of meat than rabbit- when cooked properly, rabbit is excellent! Of course, this could just be due to the fact that I am both very much a game/more "exotic" meat eater (duck, goose, pheasant, quail, elk, yak, bison, venison, alligator, lamb, goat, et cetera) and have actually not only had horse a few times before, but liked it a great deal as well. I do understand people being surprised/shocked/offended by being served something they've never had; however, no one should make commentary that make children cry over the source of their food- that was completely asinine. I honestly think if people were open to trying "new" (or at least more) things than just the typical chicken, turkey, beef and pork, they wouldn't be surprised to find that other meat is just as good as what they're accustomed to and would stop freaking out.

They'll happily chow down factory-farmed animals that suffer being injected with growth hormone in cramped cages, but lord save us all if someone hunts and kills something a little unconventional for dinner! I can understand if the kids are really really little and don't fully grasp the nature of eating animals, but they ought to inform their kids about how meat finds its way to the table, and if they want to be vegan- then so be it, but they need to accept that many humans chose otherwise.

What an embarassment to have as a guest, or a friend, mother, partner. The list goes on. I don't imagine they likely behave any other way than righteous in their day to day interactions based on their reaction and subsequent choices in behaviour. Does she know how clever pigs are, how sensitive they can be? But a short lvied, dumb rabbit that even lives happily in the wild is suddenly the problem?

I think what made the kids really upset is when the lady called them Bunnies. Bunnies is a cuter name for rabbits, making them think/realize it's the same as pet rabbits.

Honestly, calling rabbits bunnies should not be a big deal at all. Lamb is baby sheep; everyone who eats lamb knows that and it is excellent tasting. The same with veal (which is calf; also an outstanding meat.) Yet children can eat either without freaking out. As long as no one said "Hey, I had my child's show bunnies butchered and tonight, we are eating them!" there really is no extra-strong link between "bunny" and "pet." Especially since people generally use "cuter" words when talking to children about food.

So they're mad that a rabbit was eaten, but they wouldn't have been mad about a chicken, pig, or cow was eaten? Nevermind the hypocrisy for a second, because the name "rabbit stew" should've been enough of a disclaimer. Why would you call it that if it didn't have rabbit in it? The friends sound dumb as hell.

I came home with chicken feet not to long ago, my husband was not amused until he tasted the soup I made. Right away he asked me to get some for him to try his hand at soup. ( Mine was better, he even agreed, but I used my mom's recipe ). I am the type of person that is willing to try any food, after all, every region/country etc has their own special food source.

I had a guest in a restaurant I worked in complain that I was being deceiving by serving rabbit pate and not telling people that that actually meant that it was both made of rabbits and liver. I don't know what she thought it was that she was eating but she said that she thought that that was just a name for the dish and not an actual ingredient.

I would have corrected the guest by saying "This isn't a bunny, it's a rabbit." The difference is subtle but real. It is the same difference between Darby the cow and #256 the beef steer or Porky the pig and #357 the hog. If the parent wants to raise a vegetarian/vegan that's their choice but that parent has no right to start a controversy over dinner.

Personally I embrace my meat eating hypocrisy. I look out my window every morning to check on my beloved pet cow and bull. I will never eat them. But that doesn't stop me from enjoying a good steak. I'm very happy to eat *your* animal, just not mine. I include rabbit in this. I have both enjoyed rabbits as pets and food. Also, I like domestic chickens as pets more than parrots. Again, this doesn't stop me from eating chicken several nights a week. You can treat the animal humanely and still eat it. I especially liked the comment about the conditions that meet animals are often raised in.

I'll be down voted... We can't eat the cute animals, but to hell with a cow!? I was raised in a place where eating wild animals was normal. That's why we compare "game" meat to chicken. Yes, frog legs taste nearly the same as chicken. Fish, rabbit, groundhog, squirrel and deer were a part of my diet. Chickens, dairy goats, and Rabbits (or Guinea Pigs) are the most sustainable trifecta available for proteins... Meat, milk/ cheese and eggs. Plant a victory garden and learn to can foods. Some veggies can be planted more than once yearly including coliforms, leafy greens, onions, garlic and spices. Even a $3 tomato plant can produce enough fruit for a year of pasta sauce...

Reminds of me of my coworkers..my bf's family raise rabbits specifically for food. They give them to the zoo, people who need them for meals, feed them to their pets, basically if any being in our area eats a rabbit-that family will supply it. Anyway, I love rabbit jerky that his mom made. I took it to work, it got stolen. Then someone asked me about it and explained how it was rabbit jerky.. suddenly the thief appeared claiming I tried to kill him with thumper. Okey dokey.

I personally would pass on the rabbit stew but would assume it was made with actual rabbit. I never judge people on what meats they eat or if they hunt and eat the animals. I know lots of people who hunt and eat dear, I tried it, didn't like it. I also remember the Super Bowl I spent at my aunts house. I passed on the fried squirrel. But they had young kids, didn't have a lot of money and hunted for their food, not sport. I may have tried and enjoyed chickens feet in the homemade chicken noodle soup my grandma would make😋

Plus when I was a child, it was common to see game birds with feathers on, rabbits in their fur and chickens with heads on hung up outside the butchers shop. Pig's heads in windows. I used to stand on the step of the butchers and stroke the rabbits. Some people!

I had an acquaintance that raised rabbits for food. She gave me a skinned and cleaned one for dinner one night. I cooked it like chicken and it was delicious. My husband freaked out when he found out it was rabbit. They may be cute but they are considered edible in most places. I think the availability of meat in the supermarkets has made some people forget that. Deer are cute too but people eat those all the time.

It's so weird to me when I think of the fact that people are ok with eating cows and pigs and sheep and chickens, but then other things are no-nos. Like some people are OK with eating rabbit and others aren't. In some countries it's perfectly normal to eat guinea pigs and in others not. Same with goats. In some countries people would never eat cows. Or pigs. Like what determines which animals are ok to eat and which aren't? Not judging or anything, I just honestly find it a fascinating question.

Like, sure it is fantasy themed party, but come on, how stupid you need to be to a*s ime "rabbit stew" wouldn't contain rabbit? Like for real, if there is fish in fantasy move you are theming after and it is real one, the best you can do is to make real one. Like * would get it if allergies were at play or if she tricked vegetarian or vegan into eating meat, but none of these is case here. It is the same stupidity that causes peanut butter to have it spelled for you that it contains peanuts. And no, eating rabbit meat is nothing bad or evil. Plus especially if it comes from rabbits that had to be shot anyway, for population control, that is basically just not being wasteful. What she really needs to do is, if those friends can't understand that, just don't invite them or keep them as friends. Because they either are stupid or just like drama and attention too much. Nothing good ever came out of people like that, especially latter case.

How are so many people getting that impression? The OP clearly says the guest who didn't know what goes into a rabbit stew freaked out, and then her daughter (the guest's child, not the guest herself) started crying and told the other children they were eating "bunnies", at which point they were also upset, though they weren't until the rabbit was called a "bunny".

If I remember correctly, rabbit became a somewhat taboo food in the US because once skinned the animal bears a striking resemblance to cats, and shady butchers used this to sell stray cats to unsuspecting customers during the great depression. However OP is NTA, and the parents should be ashamed of themselves for telling kids they were eating "bunnies."

Interesting history lesson. I care for elderly people who would have been grateful for ANY meat back then. Even if it was a cat. I'm a cat person so I'd prefer not to eat one but that doesn't mean I wouldn't if food were scarce. Rabbit is very tasty. When I was a child my uncle made a beaver roast from an animal he hunted. It was delicious. So much so that I've never forgotten it and would love to eat it again.

I would have thought it strange if it contains dog meat or horse meat, but rabbit is a usual game found and eaten everywhere that has rabbit. The OP should asked for apology from her guest for ruining the party.

Omg when i was 4years in 1979. My brother and i were petting Flemish Giants those ginormous whabbits, after some time my father came to ask us if we knew where they were for!? And we both simultaneously say, yes for dinner tonight. Its a long story shortened down. The point teach your children what they are eating. Another time we bought a whabbit and while eating there were buckshot pellets in the meal, that gives you a reminder where it came from.

I do rabbit rescue and can under no circumstances condone serving domestic rabbit, as they are as intelligent, loving, and generous as any other animal you would keep as a house pet. Having said that, your friend is a colossal idiot and you are in no way an AH. Rabbit stew is a perfectly clear label for a stew containing rabbit AND you sourced your rabbits wild. I'd have loved to eat that stew.....

Not only is rabbit stew sustainable, is is absolutely mud-common (i.e. not endangered). We raised rabbits for meat when my kids were young. Very good meat - tender and lean. Easy to slaughter and prep for the pot. Such a shame to find this unreasonable bias - especially at your table with a large party.

It is common people keep rabbits for meat. We used to keep rabbits when I was a kid but then we stopped as it is difficult. You have to put so much effort to keep them alive. There are too many rabbit diseases, foxes or they simply somehow run away. It is easier to buy chicken meat and somehow chicken is even tastier

It seems that for those weird food dinner parties you all have (thank you, I'll pass) seems they should expect just about anything. I don't find anything wrong with eating rabbit. But then, I've eaten deer, partridge, pheasant, elk and other wild game. Many grocery stores carry rabbit, right next to duckling, in the freezer section. Don't know how much clearer "rabbit stew" could be. What did people think? It was going to be "fake rabbit?" I guess you just have to be exceptionally specific with pinhead people by including "heads up-- the rabbit stew contains REAL RABBIT." Sounds like there were plenty of other foods to eat.

Many animals perceived as pets by some, can be a sore subject. I love cats, and had a Guinea pig as a child too. But I acknowledge that guinea pigs can be a Peruvian delicacy, and my half-German S.O. told me about Dachhasen, a food substitute nessesary for some German citydwellers during second world war at a point.. I can personally differentiate between food I would prefer not to eat, and food necessity/ custom of the area/ otherwise normal to eat by people or different cultures. I had a rabbit too. Under the right circumstances I would eat rabbits, cats or guinea pigs depending..

Those Germans probably didn't want to eat those cats, but if it's between eating a cat and definitely dying a slow painful death of starvation... I'm eating the cat. S**t, look what starvation led people to do during Holodomor. Hunger that bad quite literally drives you mad to the point the cat would probably be cooked and eaten before you actually realize what you did.

Seems to me that the problem stems from most of the dishes in previous themed dinners were made up or did not use the correct ingredients. There is nothing wrong with eating rabbit (my gf cooks it every so often), though I'd draw the line at eating someone's pet rabbit. I wonder if they feel the same way about venison, pheasant and grouse?

I remember a dinner where the main course was named "fläskhare ", that can be read as "fat hare" or "pork hare" . Was really confused and had to ask. In that case (it was a dinner during a musical show) it was a pun on word regarding a song and really was just pork.

Eh, I'm mixed on this. I wouldn't have thrown a fit over it and I'm sure it tastes good, but I also wouldn't have expected it. I would have just expected some random beef or chicken stew, bc people don't really eat rabbit around here lol. But it makes sense and it's a lot more sustainable than chickens, especially with how quick rabbits reproduce. But I mean, I also get that she literally said 'rabbit stew' on the invite but I'm an idiot and wouldn't have put it together, lol.

I would say NTA but that there was definitely a miscommunication and I can reasonably see how that happened. The pretend food schtick plus lack of availability (for many areas in the US getting rabbit meat would be almost impossible) could definitely lead someone to think there would be a substituted meat. I would just be extra careful to clearly communicate if you want to serve a meat from any animal that is commonly a pet in that culture. I think that's where it gets complicated. People can have a variety of emotions about animals and we all know this.

There is a clear distinction between pet bunnies and wild rabbits. Do fancy rat owners flip out whenever someone calls an exterminator for an infestation? No. OPs "friends" are just privileged pricks completely and utterly removed from how food actually works. "Be extra careful" RABBIT STEW. How much freaking clearer do you have to be that it's not chicken? "It's hard to obtain" catch a rabbit, clock it on the head, done. You sound like you're from a big city.

I think people are missing the point about why they're upset. "It says RABBIT so OBVIOUSLY there's RABBIT!!!!! ThEy CaNt ReAd!!!!" Not exactly a good argument when not every food name indicates what's in the food. Shepherd's pie doesn't actually contain any shepherds in it for example. I wouldn't have assumed there was actual rabbit in it either, I would have thought that was just the name of it. And besides, rabbit isn't a commonly eaten meat. An average family wouldn't typically eat rabbit because it's not usually in the grocery store or butchers. So obviously they wouldn't think there's rabbit in the stew because it's that uncommon. And finally why do kids have to be told what to feel? Can't they have their own reactions? The kids got upset BEFORE the mom said "They're eating bunnies" so it's not the mom's fault they got upset. Plus, society typically sees rabbits are cute, innocent and adorable pets so it's like if the kids found out they were eating a kitten.

My grandma used to make rabbit - for the Easter festivities! Apart from it always being a bit dry (the way she prepared it) I never had a problem with it as a kid. Meat comes from animals, and I always knew it couldn't be the Easter Bunny because that had just brought presents when the meal was already on the stove

Ignorant suburban folk.

I think the worst part is this guests obvious lack of judgement when they intentionally upset the children. Her own child was likely crying because of her reaction. What an embarassment to have as a guest, or a friend, mother, partner. The list goes on. I don't imagine they likely behave any other way than righteous in their day to day interactions based on their reaction and subsequent choices in behaviour. They would definitely be off the invite list.

Lol, rabbit is quite a normal thing to eat here (though usually it's a Christmas thing) all the same I cannot see how you would just assume it was not rabbit meat. If eating rabbit bothers you so much, why would you not just ask. Indeed, get better friends. Even if you did assume and don't like it when you find out it was rabbit meat, why would you blame the host when it was clearly in the menu. For funsies, look up the lyrics to the song "Flappie" by Youp van 't Hek (use Google translate if you don't speak Dutch) ;)

I love rabbit stew! They are an imported pest species here in Australia. You can buy them at the local butcher ,(as you can kangaroo, emu and crocodile) but as I live in the country, most people just get them from a local shooter. Sorry, but the OP said it was "Rabbit Stew" how much more information do they need?

I also am a bit hesitant to eat a whole rabbit because it does look like a skinned cat, but it tastes amazing. I wonder if that upset woman ever eats pork? Has she seen how adorable piglets are? Does she know how clever pigs are, how sensitive they can be? But a short lvied, dumb rabbit that even lives happily in the wild is suddenly the problem?

Honestly, calling rabbits bunnies should not be a big deal at all. Lamb is baby sheep; everyone who eats lamb knows that and it is excellent tasting. The same with veal (which is calf; also an outstanding meat.) Yet children can eat either without freaking out. As long as no one said "Hey, I had my child's show bunnies butchered and tonight, we are eating them!" there really is no extra-strong link between "bunny" and "pet." Especially since people generally use "cuter" words when talking to children about food.

Nevermind the hypocrisy for a second, because the name "rabbit stew" should've been enough of a disclaimer. Why would you call it that if it didn't have rabbit in it? The friends sound dumb as hell.

Okey dokey.

Who's the idiot that thought rabbit stew wasn't rabbit stew? Oh wait her stupid friends and their kids lol. First off I would find new friends. Because stupidity is contagious. And she is totally NTA! She would have been if she lied about it but she didn't she labeled it rabbit stew! Or light soup or whatever she called it but in the invitation see she said rabbits so why wouldn't it have rabbits? Do I feel bad for the cute little bunny sure if I was maybe a kid I would have but as a grown up I'm looking at it as she said it was going to be rabbit soup stew whatever so what's the issue? If they were that upset about the meat option there is that mushroom thing she also made. I would definitely be finding new friends I wouldn't want to deal with that drama after having cooked the feast.

I admit, learning that I'm actually eating rabbit would give me "paws" (pardon the pun), but I wouldn't have thrown a fit about it. Especially after having eaten it. I certainly wouldn't have traumatized the kids.

I work in a grocery store - a major chain in the USA - and we sell rabbit so Im not sure why this is even such a stretch that rabbit stew would contain.... rabbits.

Ok I don't get that confusion? I'm a vegan but not offended we all got to live and eat what's available. I don't see it as killing bunnies and s**t like that. If I was toldbhey this is rabbit stew then I would expect rabbit in it.

It seems the mom and daughter had already talked about the rabbit stew before the meal. Why else would daughter immediately flip out about eating bunnies. That makes mom the real a$$hole for not confirming what was in the stew, if not rabbit. Instead of making a scene with her turd of a child.

1000% NTA. Rabbits are part of nature's bounty. So long as they (or ANY other animals) are sustainably harvested or raised for their meat, have at it! To be honest, if I knew how to properly clean one, I'd harvest a few from my yard on an occasional basis, but since I don't know how, I leave them be.

My father raised rabbits in his farm, and slaughtered and processed them himself. While I myself don't consume them, I have absolutely no problem of anyone eating it in the same table.

Nothing wrong here, you said what it was and it was indeed that. Nothing wrong with eating rabbit either, if there is then you shouldn't be eating other meats either (which is fine but don't winge about it) Only had rabbit once - nice..

Heavily depends on the culture. In Europe, we eat bunnies with no issues in many countries. I ate bunny this Monday.
