Different Ways To Say ‘Love’ Around The World?

Nothing says “I love you” like taking the time to learn and speak the language of the people you love. Love comes in many shapes and sizes – and expressions too.
As Valentine’s Day draws near, the hopeless romantics among us are bubbling with giddy anticipation of the surprise they are certain they will receive on this special day, while the rest of us are filled with dread either because we are single or because there’s just too much pressure to not disappoint or be disappointed during this time.

Ways of saying I Love You

Share on FacebookI'm a linguist, so maybe my expectations were too high, but several of the African ones just used the occupying colonial language, rather than one of the indigenous languages (i.e. Mozambique, DRC). And obviously all the Spanish speaking Latin American countries are going to have the same word because they speak the same language. And then a bunch of the interesting countries were just left out. And finally (an end to my complaining!), it's not much use to know the word "love" by itself. Knowing how to say "I love you" would have at least been useful! If I knew anything about graphics, I'd make a really good world map of I love yous.
Well, at least each language has a different color and there's a list of languages. But thought it would be for "I love you" and would be nice with more languages. Even though, I understand using the current official language (or one of) for the african ones. Otherwise separating by tribes and their language would be hard, imagine doing the same for the Americas, so many languages, and the many unrepresented languages throughout Asia...
