Designs at their best can make your brand memorable through catchy slogans and imagery. At their worst, however, they can make people remember your company for all the wrong reasons. The subreddit “Crappy Design” is a great example of how designs can go so very wrong, and leave a bad mark on your name.
Bored Panda has curated a new list of our favorite design fails from “Crappy Designs.” Sure these designers might have had good intentions, but where were their editors? Everything from animal sex on kids pajamas to subtle double entendres that an editor clearly missed, several people were clearly spaced out on the job. That was the whole point of this issue. The plastic was biodegradable. It was actually pretty smart

In the Netherlands, where I live, you can't 'get' plastic bags in stores anymore, you have to buy them. I was proud of that little environmental 'victory' for us. Then I went to America on a vacation and went shopping in Walmart...I couldn't believe what I was seeing, so many plastic bags, so many straws, it felt like everything we were trying to accomplish came to a holt. We are a spec on the globe, we need everyone to join.
This side by side with politicians telling us to : Reduce the use of cars, but complaining when car sales are regressing. Organise another climate summit somewhere in a far end of the world where they attend to with their whole staff, to complain we should reduce the use of airplanes. Tell us we should buy more local products, after making a new trading deal with a foreign country (or worse : have their own production chain somewhere abroad). Etc....
This looks like something about it being in another country. That issue was the first one (in the US, at least) in paper covers (though they still feel plasticky, but they are fully recyclable paper), and part of the cover story was about how they'd switched, because of the amount of plastic in the world and the huge problems it's causing.

I don't think this is a design fail so much as just a National Geographic Fail...
I also had this "problem", as I'm a subscriber of NG Portugal. This doesn't make any sense.
Reminds of when Nat. G.'s cover was landfills. While still studying anthropology & had a course in "garbology" we discovered most landfills were full of tonnes of National Geographics! I remember at the time the head editor had claimed after this discover that it couldn't be true as Nat. G.'s were kept & treasured by Americans. Funny how much truth can actually be learned about ourselves from rifling through our disposed of junk.
