Beijing Opens A New Airport With The World’s Largest Terminal That Has A Roof Window The Size Of 25 Football Fields
Most of us have gotten quite used to the words “the world’s biggest” being used to describe various aspects of “China”. And they have just proved that right once again by building the largest airport in the world in the city of Beijing.
The second airport named Daxing has already gotten itself a nickname and is more commonly called “the starfish airport”. It was built especially to ease the growing air traffic in the Chinese capital and is expected to accommodate 72 million passengers by the year 2025.

The new airport is located 46km south of Beijing’s city center and is currently 700K square meters big with an 80K sqm ground terminal space. Despite that, there are already plans for its expansion to serve up to 100 million passengers per year in the future.

The main terminal building was completed on June 13th, 4 years after it broke ground. It has 4 separate floors especially designed to separate and ease the flow of arriving and departing travelers. The terminal area contains a large luxury shopping area as well as cafes.

There are even five traditional Chinese gardens at the end of each hall for travelers to find a peaceful moment in. The architecture of the terminal building itself goes in line with traditional Chinese architectural principles that organize smaller structures around a grand central courtyard.

This particular design trait allows a maximum number of airplanes to be parked at a very short distance from the terminal so the walking distance for the passenger from the terminal to the aircraft is the shortest possible.

Share on FacebookThe rule about this airport is that whenever you have a bounce flight it’s directly on the opposite side of the airport and you have 5 minutes to get there xD
Been there, done that. Heart thumping, sweat streaming. Once, the plane took off before I even sat down. Puh... :-)

Zaha Hadid, or Dame Zaha Mohammad Hadid DBE RA was an Iraqi architect. She was the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize, in 2004. She received the UK's most prestigious architectural award, the Stirling Prize, in 2010 and 2011. (Wikipedia) Born: October 31, 1950, Baghdad, Iraq Died: March 31, 2016, Florida, USA. Without this fascinating woman and her outstanding work, there would be no 'Zaha Hadid Architects', the London architecture firm that she opened in 1980.
It's beautiful but the thought of the world's largest airport gives me anxiety, missed flights and impossible to navigate nightmares too.
A well designed airport can easily mitigate this. In contrast, a s****y airport would be a hassle to transfer thru, regardless of size. For example Charles de Gaulle...which is just a painful place to navigate.

That's because the Chinese central government gives large subsidies for building infrastructure, so in some smaller cities or rural areas the local government would build low quality buildings very quickly just to get funding, leading to the high failure rate. Regular projects and especially large projects like this are always guaranteed to be high quality as there are so many eyes on them.

Although China's human rights record is horrible (their treatment of the Uighur people, a Muslim minority), we need to learn from them in the areas of engineering, technology, project planning, and coordination -- their ability to GET THINGS DONE. When he was running for President, Trump said our infrastructure, including airports, was falling apart. He said he wanted to fix this. He hasn't done a thing about it.
Because Trump is a useless b*tch*ss that ought to have been impeached years ago. Hopefully they finally get this narcissistic toddler off his damn throne.

I feel at a loss as to what kind of a temple this airport is, but I am leaning towards that it is a temple to the Gods of Technology, Architecture, Personal Wealth and Expanding Economies more than to the God of the Chinese Communist Party. What is clear is that it is not a temple to what our coming generations will have to face.
