Guy Witnesses Young Man Struggling To Pay For Date In Fancy Restaurant And How Waiter ‘Saves’ Him
Sweaty palms, changing your outfit five times, most of us probably remember our first date or at least our first date with our significant other – and if you were anything like the couple in this story you were a ball of nerves. People loved hearing a purely wholesome story
I love that she acted that way, trying to split the bill and asking the same as him. We really need to stop puting this high expectations in men to be the providers, the think that they need to have money (or pretend that they have it) in order to impress women.
So wanting everybody to have equal rights and stop the social bullying that both women and men face from our sexist society makes me a gay man?

I wish more people acted the way the cast of this story did, from the young couple, to the waiter & manager, all the way to the person who wrote the events. unfortunately, ive also witnessed people who are just entitled customers that demand/wait for free stuff from restaurants... Pretty awful.. So it's understandable if it doesn't happen every day.

I remember my 1st date with my husband (16 years now!) and it must have been SO OBVIOUS because the waitress was just beaming at us with a twinkle in her eye, she knew! I was 35 and my to-be husband was 46. Even at that age, you can still fall in love so hard it's as if you are really 2 teenagers head over heels, and everyone knows it. What a great feeling! What a great story!!
Many years ago when I was a waiter I still recall a young couple on their first date, she in a nice dress and he in a nice ironed white shirt. And then he ordered the BBQ beef sandwich... the sloppiest item on the menu. I okayed it with the owner before going back to their table to lie and report that we had just run out. I knew he'd never know the bullet he'd dodged but I'm still convinced I did the right thing.
I recently discovered wine bars, they are the best option for a classy but (relatively) cheap date.
In 1968 my husband and I were trying to make it on time to a friends wedding. We stopped at an Italian restaurant in Maryland (land of great food). A man at the bar watched us kindly. When we pulled out money to pay, the cashier said it was already covered completely. I've done this since...great fun!
I met my husband through an online dating site. (I usually tell people I ordered him online. Free shipping & a 90 day warranty). We met at a Starbuck's, had coffee & talked for an hour or so. There was a Barnes & Noble next door, so we went in for a look. (I collect hardbacks and am a sucker for sales). I found a few books I wanted and we continued looking around. Without a word, he slipped the books out of my hand and carried them throughout the store. To this day (11 years later) that's what I remember the most - he carried my books. We ended up going to dinner, which lasted about 3 hours. That waiter also knew. He actually winked at me when he brought the bill.
Same thing happened with my son when he turned 18. Took his girlfriend to a restaurant on their first "grown up" date. I wish he has told me in advance. I thought they were going to something a little more in his price range. He did the same thing trying to impress her. He had 60 bucks and I guess he thought that would be enough. Sure enough I got a text from him asking if I could help him out as the bill was close to a hundred. I texted back and said said order dessert and take your time. So I got there there in 15 minutes. Instead of embarrassing him. I got his waiter's eye and motioned him over and explained what was going on. Waiter was very cool and they had thought there was a problem. So I passed him a hundred and gave the waiter 20 and he took a wine menu and opened it up in front of my son out of sight of his date, with a note and the hundred saying"from your father". All went well. Like the guy said. We've all been young.
I'd like to go to this restaurant and leave that waiter a nice fat tip!

Unless he was sitting at the table with these people I don't understand how he would've heard all of that, and in such detail. Has anyone ever been to a restaurant? You can't hear anything outside of a small radius. People have watched too many movies .
It happens. I've sat at a table close enough to hear the conversations on both sides. AS Well if you are in a very good restaurant it won't sound like you are at a Denny's after a football game. Good restaurants have guests who don't feel the need to yell and talk loudly.

My husband of 40 years did something very similar as this, I made more money than him, so I also asked to split the tab. He said no let this be my treat, but I knew he would be eating top ramen the rest of the week. I slipped the waiter some money he adjusted the bill. He let's me pay all the time now LOL
I think it's lovely how it turned out I remember my first date with my husband how we went to a beach at night collected wood and started a camp fire and sat next to each other watching waves roll in looking at the stars and singing songs while getting to know each other more. Then going for a drive afterwards and grabbing a treat and tea at Tim Hortons then headed home and getting pulled over by the cops outside of a small town as we were passing through because there was a country music festival going on and remember getting home around 5/6 in the morning

My first date my so and I went to the movies. I arrived first when I was really nervous waiting on him, so I figured since I asked him out I should pay so I bought the tickets while I waited on him. When he showed up he went to buy the tickets before I told him I already bought them so he tried to give me the money back and when I refused to take his money, we decided to go out to get smoothies before the movie started and he insisted on paying. Now every time I go to the movies with him, we have to get smoothies it's my favourite date and his too.
My husband and I were at a restaurant once where this kind of thing happened. We were sitting next to the couple and he was struggling while she was being understanding and trying to let him off the hook. So when the bill came and the guy meekly handed over his credit card..I got up and followed the waiter and told him to charge half the bill to my card and then make up a story that he forgot their meals were on special..buy one get one free. The look of relief on that guys face was all the thanks I needed.
Can we just applaud that woman for being understanding and considerate. She could have gone crazy on that menu and she didn't. She's also independent. Both are winners, if you ask me. So are the waiter and management. Lovely story.
First dinner with my 20 years now husband, was a tailgate type of barbecue in his huge pasture....still my favorite meal. (And a cheap bottle of merlot with the Deer Steaks.. pairing wasn't 'the best' ... but.. who cared?!?!?) << Married that man, and don't regret it. We got our 5 stars in through the years. Kudos to the waiter, and the couple~!

Dont forget it is the person who asks who has to expect to pay. Its old fashioned for the man to pay, but he is the one who asked! Thats ok, if those involved are fine with it. Simple. Now being a male, If a girl asked me to dinner, I would attempt to split the bill. Thats me. If I asked her to dinner, I would attempt to pay. Thats me , and Im somewhere in between old fashioned and modern world.
