Design is meant to eliminate problems. To make our lives easier. However, that's not always the case. Even though safety should be a key component when making any type of product, sometimes it falls out of the manufacturing equation and the consumer gets a hazard instead. And something to submit to the subreddit r/DangerousDesigns.
Created in 2014, this online community now has over 140K members, constantly sharing pics of exactly what its name suggests. Whether it's a questionable architectural solution or misleading packaging, over the years they've amassed quite the collection! One of the subreddit's moderators told Bored Panda they would describe it as "light-hearted."
"Dangerous staircase designs are by far our biggest collection of content, so much so that I've had to make a rule so they can only be posted once per week," the person who chose to remain anonymous said.
"Being a non-specific image subreddit, I wouldn't say there's much of a 'community' in the traditional sense," they explained. "However, there are plenty of users who are dedicated to helping me and the other mods manage this subreddit and keep it of a higher quality than most subreddits with over 100K subscribers."

According to the law firm Carr & Carr, many products can be dangerous if the consumers dismiss their warnings and use the items incorrectly. Just consider the cleaning products available at your grocery store or the power tools you use for lawn maintenance.
"[But] when it comes to product liability lawsuits in which consumers seek compensation for harm caused by a particular product, one of the key factors is proving whether the product in question is unreasonably dangerous," Carr & Carr write on their website.
"Since there's no way to anticipate every way in which a consumer might interact with a product, it’s impossible to design and manufacture a product that is entirely free from risk. However, consumers have a right to expect that a given product is safe when used as directed for its intended purpose," Carr & Carr explain.

Load More Replies...These were for exterior call boxes, located on street attached to light poles. There was a problem with people calling in fake alarms (kids mostly) so this was a deterrent.
"And thanks to this genius idea, policemen and firemen were never bothered again. Also, the whole city burned to the ground".
So someone, or more people took the time, the thought and effort to make the idea into a reality and even install it without stopping for a second to think how horribly wrong the whole thing is?
So.... you trip the fire alarm, save lives, and die. How nice. WHAT?!
Like I said, Yell FIRE really loud while you run very fast.
Load More Replies...Can someone please explain why anyone would consider this useful?
In NYC, the fire call boxes were located near the street (not inside buildings). There was a problem of mischievous kids pulling the alarm to watch the "show". It cost the city a lot of money and kept emergency services from responding immediately to other real emergencies that might happen simultaneously. It seems someone thought that false alarms would be deterred by this box.
Load More Replies...This idea must have come from the drunk in the Uber. I wonder how many people actually did this?
The 'braclet'/cuff is loose from the alarm, the alarmee is not trapped, the bracelet just stays with them & makes it possible to identify the person who set the alarm.
Key ?!? What key? I thought that YOU had the key! What? It's in MY office desk? You mean the NEW desk, or the OLD one? The old one is in Schandler's office now. No, it got moved. No, I mean "MOVED" moved -- y'know, to the OTHER location, the new place.
My understanding of this is that the boxes were located outside the buildings, not inside.
Our schools had some kind of ink that sprayed all over when the alarm was pulled!
And if by chance the firemen don't get there in time...thank you for your sacrifice.
Like most problems, this can be solved with A-10 Warthog Fighter Jet Aircraft.
well I hope that it was located outside the burning building or she wont have that manic smile for long
we should do this with phones when you call the police! it can send a little needle into your cheek that paralyses you until a police man/woman/person comes!
And ensuring the death by burning of the person who sounded the alarm of a real fire! What a winner!
And then the one setting off the alarm will perish in the flames, way to go... Can't do a sarcastic thumbs up but I think you get the message!!!
Everyone escaped except for the person who sounded the alarm. She died horribly in the fire.
with a tiny hand it´s possible to use it above without the dangerious hole #boccadelaverita
so if there's a real fire you could burn to death for pulling the alarm???
WOW! Sp you happen to notice the building is on fire, you pull the alarm, and are now trapped in said burning building.Gee, wha could go wrong?!
Is it meant to be a deterrence to reporting a fire? What if it is raining?
Meanwhile, woman burns alive in 4-alarm fire bc she was attached to the signal box
So you have to stand there in a burning building until someone comes with the key... Riiiight!
Sorry, but I like this! Stupid dingbats creating false alarms have gotten people killed.
What do you do if there really is a fire? And how long would this work? All that was needed was a few people to get caught a couple of times before word went around that if you want to start a false alarm you do not follow the instructions.
Oh wow, so you try save everyone from dying but burn yourself. What a hero
Because pulling a fire alarm with no fire was a bigger problem than fire?
This was done to prevent the multitude of false alarms in large cities like NYC.
Yeah, I'm sure it succeeded in deterring false alarms along with deterring ANY alarms!
That will just encourage people to run away from the fire without hitting the alarm
I like this, just hope the fire is well away form the alarm, bet it did not catch on?
Couldn’t You just reach around the lock, it doesn't look the the lock is attached
It looks like the cuff thing isn't attached to the box though. You can still leave.
An unreasonably dangerous product is one that poses greater risks than an ordinary user might reasonably expect when using the product as intended. "This definition makes a distinction between products that are dangerous—such as drain cleaners or chainsaws—and those that pose threats beyond their intended purpose."
"In general, drain cleaners and chainsaws are not unreasonably dangerous because most come with detailed instructions for the proper use and warnings about their risks. The unreasonable danger in product liability cases is characterized by a flaw in the product's design, manufacture or marketing," Carr & Carr note.
So which of these pictures do you think feature unreasonably dangerous designs? Upvote them and let's see!

Modern medicine and technology has been combating natural selection too well...now those folks that would have been out of the gene pool are in charge of building, packaging and manufacturing by the looks of things.

When i got to the end of this list, i was expecting to see the trump border wall honestly.
Pretty sure some of these are either captioned in a way that doesn’t represent reality (a sea wall is not a handicap ramp) or just photoshopped (major corporations do not fly planes that low). Don’t believe everything you read here.
All I saw were stuff built by peoole are people whi just did not give a damn . I liked the wet bathroom and tent with two trucks though
I have never, never seen so many absolutely idiotic, crazy and dangerous items/situations!!!!
I thought it was a sensible question, not everyone is a railway enthusiast
