Dad Shoots His Daughter Every Week For 18 Years, Shows How Subtle Changes Make A Big Difference At The End
Frans Hofmeester, a filmmaker and artist from the Netherlands, has just given his daughter Lotte the best birthday present. The loving dad has been filming her every week since the moment she was born in 1999 until she turned 18, and has put it all together into a stunning timelapse video.
“When Lotte was born, she was changing at such a rapid pace,” Hofmeester told The Guardian. “I was desperate to keep the memories intact.” Filming his daughter, Frans would ask her about her week, or what she did at school. The “Portrait of Lotte, 0 to 18 years” has already accumulated over 3,6M views on YouTube, and the numbers keep growing. “I think the reception has been so strong because the film speaks to people. It carries a message about living your life, and enjoying every moment of having your children with you.”

SAME! I thought it literally meant SHOOT at first!! Not video!
Load More Replies...Something changed abruptly in her eyes when she was 16. I hope it's just an impression...
She looked more sad and didnt smile as often as before. From 17-18 it was significant, the smile looks mostly forced or isnt even there
Load More Replies...Beautiful.... absolutely beautiful. What an amazing dad, and a stunning daughter.
Not a critique this time, btw. ^_- Anyway, interesting project.
Load More Replies...What a wonderful idea! So much better than just ordinary pictures. The changes she had growing up say a lot about her character, altho after turning 16 she started to look so serious but that maybe because, as a teen, she was bored with the whole thing by now. :)
I'm glad the father is not shooting his daughter! This project is wonderful and uber-cute! ✨
Quite a lot of crying or sad shots in there. But a great idea. Too late for me now :-(
Both the dad and the daughter are lovely. You could tell at like, photo #2 that the daughter was going to be stunning.
She is absolutely gorgeous! The awesome vid of them both aside, I am glad that parents also invested in her health, especially the teeth. Small thing, but smile changes the face! All in all, just wish they didn't grow up that fast...
I'm not really into kids at all (i don't have any and don't want any), but this was... kind of beautiful and moving to me. As a 42-year-old, aging and life are weighing on me and this was, maybe, just a really critical time to see this photographer's child(ren) aging before my eyes.
Interesting that from 15 onwards the talking slows down a lot. What wonderful memories they have ....if only!
I'm trying to do this with my daughter. I've been trying to take weekly photos of her, although I didn't officially start until she was 10 weeks old. It's amazing how our children seem to grow overnight.
I hope she understands how precious this endeavor has been. I only connected with my own Dad the last few years of his life. I would have given anything for this kind of commitment.
The 5th photo is my favourite- that sweet innocence, no hormones, no teenage issues, no girl problems, no society impacts. That moment she grew up and realised how this world is, is so obvious in these images.
So beautiful. The few where she was crying made me want to know what it was about.
How amazing that you had the forethought to compose this video. I so wish I had done this with my only son! I'll bet you are an awesome Father!!!
I saw “ Dad shoots his daughter every week for 18 years” and flipped out.
Another "look at me" piece for photographer/artist/boho/soho/blah blah blah...yawn
Go hug a tree, or a Komodo dragon while you’re at it.
Load More Replies...Um...what kid does? Besides, teenagers are sooooo much cooler, don't you know.
