Zoos Get Into Brutal #CuteAnimalTweetOff Battle, And It’s Exactly What The Internet Needed
While bad news and political turmoil were turning everyone against each other, a #CuteAnimalTweetOff erupted, and it was exactly what Twitter needed.
The catalyst was a precious grey seal pup released to the press by Smithsonian’s National Zoo. Sarah Hill, a user from Virginia, challenged the VA Aquarium to do better – or rather, cuter. A friendly fire of back-to-back adorable animal moments followed, and hundreds of Twitizens eagerly watched it unfold in real time. Eventually, the Bronx Zoo decided to step into the ring, and hashtagged 7 other zoos in with them.
The animals that flooded the Twittersphere were a heartwarming distraction from the latest headlines, so do yourself a favour and take them all in below.

And you know the best? These little cuties are all saving their species from exctinction. Sure it's sad that we have to make captive animals reproduce for this but isn't it better than nothing? And if they are well treated they are in way less danger than in their natural environment.

As a native Philadelphian, I have to vote for the baby gorilla at the Philly Zoo (I have seen her in person and she's is so cute). But the look on Rowan's mom's face in that last pic is giving me life.

I enjoyed this article a lot because it shows how much the general population still cares about animal species. I personally also enjoyed the amazing photos. You can still make things better by volunteering time or simply calling/writing your representative. (Google is probably better at helping you with that than I am) :) Stay loving and caring. - W

Sorry to rain on everybody's cute animal appreciation parade but ... Zoos are terrible prisons. Animals do not belong in cages. Flora and fauna should be free to live their lives without barriers, walls and human beings controlling their lives and restrict their movements. If you really believe in freedom and respect for all living things, these zoos should be shut down immediately and the animals reintroduced into their native habitats.
That would be the ideal, but their native habitats are just as or even more endangered.
