While it’s easy to judge parents for all of the wrongs they do when it comes to making their kids behave, it’s once you become a parent yourself that you understand that there’s a spectrum of what’s actually wrong and what’s still kinda sorta OK because otherwise you’d crack under the pressure of parenting.

One of the many things that most parents resort to, though still with a certain degree of caution, is white lies, which are, if anything, cute and kind of a long-term investment that will end in laughs in the future.

A tweeter by the handle of @Lhlodder shared one such lie that her friend uses to make her kids buckle up for the car ride, saying that the car won’t start unless they are all wearing seat belts. This inspired others to share their white lies, whether they're the ones duping or the ones who were duped.

Bored Panda has collected the best of the best tweets from the thread and created a neat little curated list for y’all to enjoy, so go vote and comment on them. And while you’re at it, share some of your cutesy white lies in the comment section below!

I told my daughter she had to eat as much vegetables and fruit as she ate junk to counteract the junk food. She'd fill up on fruit and vegetables and be too full for any junk food. I think that's why she's a vegetarian now too

My girls were about eight before they could cross a street without holding the hand of an adult. They never asked about rules or anything, that's just how things ARE.

Not too similar but made me think of it as I was the top bunk ( and the older) sister! Our mum used to tell me that it's really bad luck to go to bed with the wardrobes or the drawers in your bedroom left open. Like, you'd get nightmares or just bad luck the next day. So this seemed perfectly rationally to me well into my adult years (I guess as much as any other superstition would) A couple of years ago I asked her where that superstition came from and she said, "oh, it was just to make you tidy up and put everything away before you went to bed." And it bloody worked. I'm in my 30's now and still do it out of habit! Sneaky mum.

None of these are actually good and pretty much all lazy parenting. 😂

Wow! Teach your kids how not to lie by lying to them. Sounds very logical, right?

At some point your daughter will ask why your ears never turned red since you were lying to her all the time

When you are a parent your ears lose the ability to turn red when lying. Fact

My mom always checked the tip of our nose...obviously it turns soft if we lie. Can't even say a white lie since then, thanks mom.

A friend told her little daughter that her eyes change colour every time she tells a lie. So now she knows when she's telling the truth or not because she squeezes her eyes shut while she is telling a lie. LOL!

I legitimately believed my mom could read my mind until I was about 11. I only disproved it with elaborate tests...first I thought things like "if you can read my mind make spaghetti for dinner" but then I figured that she didn't want me to know she could, so I started thinking dirty words really hard to see if she'd catch me.

Closely related to "pants being on fire" meaning you are lying and "my ears are burning" meaning someone is talking about you.

I told my kids this as well. They the put their hands over their ears when they lied so I could not see that their ears were going red.

Next door neighbor tried this with her son, and now whenever he lies, he claps his hands over his ears so mom can't see them.

I used to tell mine a red spot would appear on their tongue when they lied. It worked every time because they would never let me see their tongues if they had told a lie 😂

You know how some people can ‘shake’ their eyes? My mom can, and my little sister had to learn to stop when she lied. Her eyes would shake when she was lying and trying not to see my mom

We were told that when we lie our nose feels soft and every time my granny suspected a lie booped our nose.

In Denmark we tell children that they get a black line on their forehead when they lie. So now we know, that when my grandson, 4yo, holds his hand on his forehead, he is lying.

in elder days before Netflix and tablets, primitive men, would posses hard copies of movies and music. this primitiv people would sometimes go places were there was no signal and nobody knew what parents and their children did for hours...it was a short and brutish life

Ehm. There actually are cakes which are sensitive to vibrations, no? Loud noises and especially stomping can make them deflate, or am I mistaken?

I don't even see the point of this lie.. he could have just as easily pointed to the engine temperature gauge and said when the car is "in the warm area"...

Eyes in the black of my head trick worked for a while. She would be amazed especially in the car. She did not know i could see her in the rearview mirror. Even when she was still backwards in her car seat.
