How do you EAT this? Is it like CLEAR GELATINE??? Not very appealing...
it has a very chewy sweet texture and it melts in your mouth, it goes very well with the sand looking thing which is called kinako, which has a very sweet and sticky texture once mixed with a liquid, and then you also use soy sauce which mildens the sweetness , its a very unique and appetizing combination. I know, its hard to believe xD

What is it made of? Is it from seaweed? Is it collagen? Looks more like a paperweight than something edible.
Someone said it's made of agar, which is similar to gelatin. I thought it was really beautiful. This is more of an art piece than something to inspire salivation. Very beautiful, though.

I think the powdered stuff on the side is the 'cake' part...kind of a 'deconstructed' dessert. Looks like an agar/gelatin water drop with powdered 'cake' next to it.

These are absolutely beautiful and must involve a great deal of skill. I'm not the sort of person who takes photos of my food, but I would definitely make an exception for these! I'd probably feel too guilty to eat most of them...their little faces!
most of the transparent sweets are konnyaku (agar). It's pretty common in Singapore, and you can buy a pack of agar powder in most supermarkets - just dissolve in hot water, add flavour (orange juice for example) and pour into moulds and let it cool and solidify in the fridge
There are several places here in the USA, depends on where you live. In Nyc there are a few places. Just over the gw bridge in New Jersey is a store dedicated to stuff like this. Boston has porters square. Around Washington, D.C. Has a place. Pretty much some place that has a china town most likely have a store that has sweets like this. I can give you store names and addresses if I know what part of the country you are in. And don't forget, most places deliver

Wow most of these were almost too pretty to eat!!! So are the sweets represented here indicative of what kinda of sweets you can expect to be readily available in Japan? How cool would it be if they had something like a tour that would take you around the city to taste all the various sweets? Or maybe a set up in something like a convention center or even a nice outdoor venue where sweets vendors could set up booths and people could pay a set price to go through and taste something from each booth. Kinda similar to a wine tasting but with these beautiful lovely sweets instead! Maybe they already do such a thing, I wouldn't know but I would LOVE to go to something like that.
After watching these cute and creative Japanese sweets, it made me feel like going to Japan and experience it first hand XD
I am constantly amazed at the artistry, and the care and time taken to prepare some of these treats!
I love all the goodies! I'd try to save some of them if I could! Definitely feel guilty munching on those awesome goodies!!!
