The desire to have a family is hard-wired in most of us, and animals are no exception. A mother dog bonds with her pups through her sense of smell, which is why it can be a bad idea to separate the pups from their mother; depending on the olfactory (smell) system of the breed, some mothers might not recognize her tykes.

According to one study, it's the maternal instinct which also makes female dogs more sociable than males. Dogs were presented with three, treat-filled boxes, only two of which could be opened on their own. The female dogs were far more likely to “ask” a researcher for help than males.

This list of dogs with their puppies is our tribute to these loyal canines. Do you have any photos of pooches with their pups? Post your own, or vote on your favorite below!

Sorry but the mutilation of the ears for pointless aesthetics detracts from such a beautiful photo.

In total agreement with Adrian; the unnecessary ear mutilation detracts from the photos and made me wonder how many of these owners are responsible or just backyard breeders trying to make a quick buck.

At least the puppy's ears aren't cropped. And it's entirely possible the owner got the parent with ears already cropped, as it used to be a lot more common. Pitties with cropped ears are statistically less adopted because people get the mistaken impression the dog is mean.

I agree with you. What's wrong with the ears. And the owner actually thought the animal was more beautiful that way ?!?!?! Sick people

Can't blame the owner unless you're certain they're the one who had it done. Since the puppy's ears aren't cropped, I would be more inclined to believe this owner did not have the parent's ears cropped.

I will give the owner the benefit of the doubt and assume the older dog is a rescue and it's ears were already cropped at the time of adoption.

Please don't cut the baby's ears. What a barbaric, pointless custom that takes away from the beauty of the dogs and reminds me of how inhumane humans can be.

I agree with the comment about the cropped ears. Is also sad juxtaposition that the pup is on a loose, pink flat collar with a iny bell. the mother is on a choke chain... At wha age does baby get to anticipate being dealt with harsh corrections... really... should she ever need to be...I hope not,

I think these beautiful animals will be lovers to people, not fighters. I think the mother will only attack, if you are doing something to her baby

Your wrong. Cropping is done for many reasons. Mainly they are done on working dogs like Boar hunting dogs for an example so that they can prevent injury. Also for CKC and AKC it was breed standard for many working breeds. Plus floppy ears are prone to

It seems some people need a cause to make them feel important and righteous. I'm beyond exhausted in reading ignorant comments like "it cruel to crop their ears" or it would be such a great photo if it wasn't for the ears" what do you think vets do? Do you think professionals are touring dogs? Do you think vets are abusing their clients pets in the back room? Do you think vets are cropping them while they are awake? It's a choice and if you don't like it don't do it. It's no ones place to impose how they feel especially if it's legal in the country were they are done. Get off your high horse And they are a lovely crop IMO

What on Earth are you talking about? Everyone has the right to voice their opinion. Nobody is "imposing" and thing on anyone except the owner of the dog who imposed their messed up ideas on this dogs ears. The main reason for ear cropping is dog fighting, so I think people are more than entitled to their opinion in that. if people decide to continue this practice for aesthetic reasons, well then they just have to deal with the fallout of public opinion. Actions have consequences.

Very unfortunate they chose to crop the puppy's ears. With an adult dog, you don't know who had it done, but it's clear this owner made a poor choice in doing so with this pup. Oddly, the mama's ears appear to be natural. Ear-cropping is not widely done anymore for a variety of very good reasons.

The ribbon is to teach it to leave a collar alone as well. Our breeder didn't do it, and Midas took a while to get used to the collar. The could hurt themselves if they don't learn this.
