I Adopted 2 Cats Yesterday Because I Was Lonely, And Just Woke Up To This… This Is Amazing… I’m Not Alone Anymore
I so understand. I had to have my 18 year old cat put down about a year ago, and coming home to an empty house was agonising for the first few months. I wish you the best of luck for you all. They look like a pair of cuties.
I am so sorry for your loss. <3 My old gray girl died in 2018 (at 20 years old) and I'm still not over it. I was fortunate to have my other kitty Kohl when Wintressia died, and I adopted a tuxedo boy three years ago. If you haven't adopted another kitty since, the Cat Distribution System will find you one when the time is right :)

Seeing pets click with their new families is pure joy. Sharing their adoption stories is even more special—each one is a happy ending waiting to be told. That’s why Bored Panda got in touch with Anastasia Duravkina, a social media and content marketing specialist from Ukraine, to hear about how she adopted her cat, Dixie. In her free time, Anastasia is a photographer who features her work on Instagram and films videos about her life on TikTok, where you can also find cute glimpses of Dixie.
Anastasia has always felt a deep connection to animals and knew she would eventually adopt one. “I grew up with a cat, but he stayed with my parents when I moved out,” she recalls. “Ever since, I’ve been thinking about getting my own pet.” However, she understood the commitment it would take and wanted to be fully prepared.

Adopted 11-Year-Old Whiskers This Past Weekend
One day, though, while scrolling through a local online marketplace, Anastasia came across a peculiar cat staring back at her from the screen. “It was an ad from a shelter. I was mesmerized. It was the cutest and weirdest-looking cat I had ever seen. I knew she had to be mine, but I was afraid to take the leap,” she shares.
Weeks went by, but Anastasia couldn’t get the cat out of her mind. So when a free Saturday presented itself, she set off for the shelter. “The woman working there struggled to find the cat at first because there were so many animals there,” Anastasia says. “It broke my heart knowing they might never find their forever home.”

Today Was A Great Day At Our Shelter. Batman And Robin Were Adopted Together!!!
Dinner dinner dinner dinner, dinner dinner dinner dinner,.... CATMAN!!!!
Finally, after a frantic hour of searching, Anastasia spotted the cat hiding amongst the others. Tiny, with fur standing on end in a comical yet charismatic explosion, she looked exactly as she did in the ad. Relief washed over her as she scooped her up, knowing this was the perfect match.
“It was one of the best things I’ve ever done,” Anastasia says. “Every animal deserves a loving home.”
My Mother Found Her In The Trash, We Adopted Her
Last week on my way home, I went through an intersection, and someone had thrown three kittens in the middle of the intersection in a plastic bag. It was the saddest thing I had ever seen. I got there in time to save two of them luckily and they were just 3 weeks old.

You’ll never replace your first dog but be proud you’ve given this lovely boy a second chance. Lots of love coming your way ❤️
There's a poem called The Last Will and Testament of a Dog. It's about a beloved pet dying, and willing his human to give the love in his heart to another animal, to give him the loving arms that held him, the voice that called his name and made him feel safe. It leaves me crying every time. When I lost my first cat, I thought I'd never have another because I couldn't go through that again, but loving another doesn't mean loving the first one less.
I've never heard such beautiful sentiments on this site before. Enjoy your new buddy gentleman. You both deserve a wonderful life together.
Your old dog would say to you: 'Good boy! Well done!' And wag his/hertail furiously.
Naming her new feline friend was a fun process. Anastasia and her boyfriend spent a while trying to come up with the right one and landed on Dixie. The name sounded pointy and fun, which matched the cat’s personality. “She’s 3 years old now. The sweetest cat I’ve ever known, but she has a certain pizzazz aura following her around. She can be quite cheeky and quirky, but it’s the combination of all her traits that makes her a perfect cat.”

How Could I Not Adopt Both
I had 2 grey boys, i was only adopting one but his brother kept being let down, so i had to do the right thing and adopt them together. Both are now playing in kitty heaven. Miss them so much.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Sending love your way.
Load More Replies...The last time I went to my local animal rescue, I wanted one cat who could be a companion to my older cat (we'd just lost her brother). I fell in love with a kitten. The kitten's mother had been brought in as a pregnant stray, so the litter was born in the shelter. The lady in the shelter said it would be better to take two, just as easy to look after as one, and he wouldn't be left alone when my older one died. I agreed to take another of the kittens. Then she said that one of the remaining kittens had to stay with his mother because he needed some surgery, so that meant the healthy kitten wouldn't be able to play with his sick brother, so he'd be lonely without the two I was adopting. And that was how I ended up with three kittens. Shelter volunteers-masters of emotional manipulation!
I have always felt that cats should not be alone. Adopt two and they will always have a companion and, when one dies, the remaining cat helps lessen the pain.
My Friendly Adopted Kitten
On TikTok, Anastasia shares a photo of Dixie as a kitten alongside how she looks today. “She’s got big, beautiful green eyes and tortoiseshell fur,” Anastasia describes. “When you look at the photo from the shelter, it’s easy to understand why I was charmed. She looked a bit funny and cartoonish, but full of character.” The transformation from the shy shelter cat to the confident and happy feline she is now is just remarkable.
My Adopted Boy's First Day Home
Just like my last adoption. He had been in and out of the shelter several times, and was 8 when I took him home. He climbed up on the sofa, put his head on the pillow and slept. It took him about 6 months to realize he wasn't going back to the shelter again.

This Rescue Kitten That Was Recently Adopted From My Job Has A Heart On His Nose
However, in February 2022, Anastasia faced one of the most challenging times of her life when Russia began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. She had to flee the country with Dixie. “I had all of her documents prepared beforehand, even though multiple countries were kind enough—and I will always be grateful for it—to let people cross the borders with their pets without the necessary documentation,” she explains. The escape was a stressful experience for both of them, but they made it out safely, and the shared ordeal only strengthened their bond.

Agreed. So many needs cats do not end up adopted. They are truly adaptable to their new situation with adopters who care and are prepared. Glad she has a home.
Load More Replies...His Name Is Rael, I Adopted Him, It Makes Me Very Happy (I Recommend Adopting And Not Buying Hehe)
I honestly don't think I've ever seen a cat with that eye color before! It's magnificent!
And if you do decide to buy, PLEASE go to a reputable breeder, not a pet store! My petcare client got a cockapoo from a Petland that sold dog that were probably from a puppy mill. Spent a ton of money to purchase. Then the sweetie had massive kidney issues, so toss another couple thousand and in my case, miles, at the vets. Sweet pup is ok now, but I wish she would have gone to a breeder instead. Of course, adoption is the way to go, though!
Anastasia believes that rescuing a pet from a shelter saves multiple lives. “Shelters often euthanize animals when they are not adopted for a long time or if they are senior,” she explains. “By adopting a pet, you free up space in the shelter for another animal which otherwise could starve or die on the streets.”

I Got Adopted By Cat Today
Finally! A soft can-opener who knows what's going on!
The Moment You Realize You’re Adopted!
Moreover, choosing to adopt your pet from a shelter rather than buying from a breeder is a more ethical and compassionate way to support animals. Although she rescued a kitten, Anastasia is open to adopting older cats in the future. “I can see myself getting an older cat given they have an even smaller chance of finding a home,” she says.
Just Adopted A Half Blind Kitten. Anyone Has Any Suggestion For Take Good Care Of This Special Kid? Thanks
Live a structured life, keep everything in their place, and your cat will thrive.
Adopt another (sighted) one, your cat's life and behavior will be based on the other, they'll help each other.
Your number 1 job for this little guy is to keep him/her safe! Use audio cues to help them find water, food, etc. Knocking on floor or using spoon to tap on food bowl. Different textures help them feel with their paws where things are. DON'T move furniture, etc. around! Change is very hard on blind kitties!
Please get a sighted cat if possible. They will both thrive . This one's anxiety and adjustment to changes will be amazing. You're also an amazing human being!
Talk sweet to kitty, ears work! You have a good heart and kitty will thrive.
If you can afford a running/walking wheel. Then they can exercise without the fear of bumping into things
Forgive me for the dumb question, but is them falling off the wheel a concern when blind/half blind? Or are they able to keep straight enough that it wouldn't be a concern?
Load More Replies...I'd recommend a soft bell on her collar too! God Bless You, Sweet Soul! 🤗🇺🇸
I fostered a pair of blind kittens several years ago, siblings that were born that way (microophthalmia for one, couldn't ever figure out a diagnosis for the partly visual one). Anyways they ended up being adopted by one of my vet techs so I got frequent updates. The fully blind from birth cat actually got around better than the cat with partial vision, who occasionally bumped into things. He ran up and down stairs no problem. One evening my tech was watching TV and the blind cat, Stevie, was on the couch with them and he jumped up into the air and caught a bug. That pair of kittens taught me that (indoor, well-loved) cats don't need no stinking eyes! ETA- The cat in the picture looks like probable congenital micro-ophthalmia too.
Adopted!
Not every bi-colored-face cat is a chimera - and a cat can't be a "semi-chimera" - it's either a fused chimera or not. Chimeras are two embryos that fused early on in gestation. It is rare. Since this little lady has the same foreleg and ear markings, it is unlikely she is actually a chimera. She is a tortoiseshell colorpoint with mitted/white markings. (I think she's a dilute tortie as well, but it's hard to tell from the photo.) "Split-face" markings like hers are actually very common in tortoiseshell cats.

Unfortunately, shelters are currently facing a crisis. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people were looking for companionship out of loneliness and found it by adopting pets. The adoption rates at the time were record-high, and videos of empty shelters were going viral. In 2020, 2% more animals left shelters than came in, according to Shelter Animals Count. However, in 2021, this trend reversed, and now 4% more animals are entering shelters than leaving. These animals need help now more than ever.

Ah cats are solar powered. This one needs a full charge after being kept in the dark
Beautiful fur, hint to help your kitty, just keep all your doors open. I have a cat I adopted & it became very clear he did not like closed doors except the front door. I think someone was moving & put him in a room & closed the while the movers did thier job. When someone came to show the house the andcat ran bolted of the house. I've owed cats all my live & this cat loves people. I had him4 days & the grandkids came for a visit with the dog so I close to my bedroom. The kids asked if they could see my new cat I said sure he's in my bedroom. They were 2-4 &6years old and ran down the hallway like a herd of elephants, throw open the door. I was right behind them. The was on the dresser and as soon as he saw those kids he jumped down to met them. That'sthe point I knew someone let a really good cat get away. Your cat will be fine as we all know, LOVE solves every thing

Found This Baby In The Carpool Lane The Other Day
Update from the OP: “I spotted this tiny kitten on the freeway in the carpool lane the other day. I frantically got off at the nearest exit and called the police. They said they’d send an officer to go find the kitten and by the time I got back on the freeway (literally a minute), highway patrol was already clearing the freeway! The operator said they will be taking it to the pound so I said if the officer finds the kitten I will take him. I got a call back and I met the officer at a gas station and took him! Got him to a vet and my coworker adopted him the same day. Just has an eye infection and is now on antibiotics and eye drops. It makes me so sad to think that if I never saw him, this poor baby would’ve been hit and killed. I still can’t believe I even saw him in the first place.“

Adopted A Dog, Can Anyone Tell Me The Breed ?
Hey random question, but has anyone ever used those cat or dog DNA things, and do they tell you what breeds they are?
I've used them on my dog Stilgar, whose parentage I knew, but I was curious what the tests would say. (His dad was a purebred German Shepherd and his mom is a Kuchi Dog, a livestock guardian breed.) I used both Embark and Wisdom Panel. I'll attach Stilly's results in a comment-reply to my own comment here. I also used Wisdom Panel on my younger cat, Preacher, expecting the exact result we got: 91% domestic cat XD (he is a shelter-adopted tuxedo and I didn't suspect he was a purebred anything, but I was curious!)

Wow, you lucked out. Looks like a pure bred Samoyed. We lucked out with a pure bred German Shepherd.
It makes me so sad that people can abandon dogs period, but it's even more baffling to me when I read about purebreds being abandoned. GSDs are my favorite breed, so I used to follow my local GSD rescue after I lost my heart-dog Ember (purebred GSD) in 2010. They rescue GSD mixes too, but I was shocked how many purebred GSDs got abandoned. Unless people are buying from backyard breeders, a AKC-registerable purebred GSD could cost thousands of dollars.

No, OP stated he's a junkyard cat, so he's just a domestic longhair. Not every gray cat is a Russian Blue or a Nebelung. Unless someone has papers to prove a cat's pedigree, they are just a "domestic shorthair/longhair". Cat breeds don't work the way dog breeds do, and even cats from purebred parents of different breeds are just "domestic shorthairs/longhairs" and not "half Bengal" or whatever one parent was.

Is There Anything Better Than Adopting A Sibling Pair?
My Baby Boji
Scottish Folds are cute, but ALL Scottish Fold cats are affected by osteochondrodysplasia, a developmental abnormality that affects cartilage and bone development throughout the body. This condition causes the ear fold in the breed and studies point to all Fold cats being affected by it. Fold cats therefore have malformed bone structures and can develop severe painful degenerative joint diseases at an early age. Due to these health conditions, breeding Fold cats is prohibited in several countries and some major cat registries do not recognize the cat breed. ALL Scottish Folds have cartilage deformities, ALL Scottish Folds will develop progressive arthritis to some degree, and ALL Scottish Folds will end up in pain at an early age. We need to stop breeding cat and dog breeds who are deformed and in pain/cannot function normally (ALL brachycephalic dog breeds, munchkin cats, Scottish Folds, etc.)

Adopting This Little Guy. Any Advice For Very Anxious Cats?
Patience. Do not force patting, cuddling etc. Speak to him a lot, show your hands, let him smell them, give some treats. Wait patiently for him coming to you.
Keep any sudden noises or movements to a minimum, to create as calm and soothing a space as possible, until the cat comes out of their shell and can learn to recognize all the normal household noises. Beat the ever-lovin’ c**p out of anyone who purposely tries to scare the cat, as some a******s think it’s funny, for some reason. Kick their a*s(es) into next week.

I'll 100% take the down votes on the chin but these kittens are too young to be away from the queen.
We don't know the back story, there may sadly be no mom. They look healthy, so they are being cared for at the least.

They are young, but in the other pics they look old enough to be adopted.

These are the best articles on BP! You've got cute faces, baby floof, contented sleepy angels, puppy eyes, did I mention the kitten floof?, full round bellies you want to blow raspberries on, smol boys and girls, the FLOOF! Happy loves in loving homes ❤
So is someone evil for wanting - and buying - a purebred animal, if that particular breed isn't prone to health issues that will make its life a living hell? I have four pets, three of which are rescues/shelter adoptions and one which is a purebred that I got from an AKC-approved breeder. I've always felt literally afraid to talk about my puppy, who is the purebred, because I feel like people will think I'm a terrible person for buying a dog when there are so many animals in shelters. I'm not trying to look for kudos, but it starts to feel a little witch-hunty after a while when people only chant things like "adopt, don't shop!"

Please remember to spay/neuter your pets! So many little ones on this list. Of course I am thrilled they were adopted, but so many thousands are unwanted.
Hooray for animals and boo to all the clickbait, aita, buy these products nonsense.
You liars!!! You promised 50 pics, and now I've been procrastinating for almost an hour!
These adopted kittens are adorable, but my thanks goes to those who adopt the older cats. I got my Duma when he was about 10. POS he lived with put him out on the street because he didn’t want to pay for the dental work he needed. A neighbor saw the cat and, thinking it had just gotten out, kept trying to return it to the original owner, who denied that it was his or that he even had a cat, so neighbor got him to a shelter. i found him there, sick with a shelter cold and I took one look at the posting the shelter had put up and immediately said, I can’t leave him there! He came home to meet my two other senior boys (now 17 and 20, while Duma is 16). He’s curled up in his bed as I write this. Don’t overlook those senior cats. They know how lucky they are to have a home, and they give you so much love!
I hope these are all actual adoptions/rescues, and not just people using the word "adopt" as a cute alternative to "purchase". There are expensive pedigree puppies and kittens on this list. I find it hard to believe they were adopted!
Shelter animals are often "purebred" animals, not every shelter animal is a mutt. But I do hope that they were actually adopted and not bought from a breeder as well.
