One place on the internet that collects astonishing examples of customers being some of the biggest jerks in the world is the humongous ‘Trashy’ subreddit which has more than 1.6 million members. If jerk customers are getting you all riled up, here are several modern Stoic tips to manage your anger, courtesy of philosopher Massimo Pigliucci who wrote a fantastic essay about the subject on Aeon:
- Engage in preemptive meditation: think about what situations trigger your anger, and decide ahead of time how to deal with them.
- Check anger as soon as you feel its symptoms. Don’t wait, or it will get out of control.
- Associate with serene people, as much as possible; avoid irritable or angry ones. Moods are infective.
- Play a musical instrument, or purposefully engage in whatever activity relaxes your mind. A relaxed mind does not get angry.
- Seek environments with pleasing, not irritating, colors. Manipulating external circumstances actually has an effect on our moods.
- Don’t engage in discussions when you are tired, you will be more prone to irritation, which can then escalate into anger.
- Don’t start discussions when you are thirsty or hungry, for the same reason.

Bored Panda spoke to Samson about an incredibly uncomfortable situation that happened to him one day at work. Samson stressed the fact that he is a guy, even though some people think he looks like a girl in the video.
“So this guy came in to buy some stuff and asked if he could use our bathroom. The one we have is only for employees and located in our back office, so I just told him we don't have one, which is usually my answer,” Samson began his tale. “Before he left he grabbed a paper cup from the front and said "I guess this will have to do" (at the time I thought this was a joke) and I apologized that I couldn't help and he drove off.”
“About 10 minutes later he drives back, storms in and throws the cup at me and starts cursing me out, yelling something along the lines of: "This is for not giving me the courtesy of using your bathroom, I know you have one." And he mentioned having to pee in the cup. I should mention that the cup wasn't full and there wasn't that much pee in it (my coworker thinks he might've spilled it on himself and that's why he was so angry), but there was definitely still some pee in it and it got in my eye.”
“I was completely stunned and again I apologized and explained that the one we have is just for employees and my coworker backed me up (you can see him turning to curse her out too in the video). Then he left and tried and failed to slam the door. I got his license plate and reported him, but the police said that they can't prove it was pee and it's only being treated as harassment, not assault, so I doubt he's gonna get any serious punishment. [All of] his happened around the beginning of August.”
“I was pretty shocked, I worked at a 7/11 for a little over a year before this and worked at this deli for about a month and a half, and never in a million years did I expect anything like this happen to me. This was also 3 days before my last day there (since I had to leave for college again), so I kept asking myself why couldn't this happen the next week instead. Also police not treating this as assault felt insulting,” Samson said.
“I feel like this guy had to have some serious mental problems and/or extreme entitlement to do something like this to a minimum wage college kid, and people who treat workers like this are incredibly rude.”
"but the police said that they can't prove it was pee" ... this is not true. They can easily prove it if they try. Sounds like they just didn't want the paperwork.

Here in Finland people who have any medical condition that affects to their peeing or pooping can get a 'toilet pass'. With showing that toilet pass they can use any public toilet for free, also those toilets that are only meant for staff if there is no toilet for the customers. Other people just have to go to some other place if there is no toilet available. But at some places the staff may let a customer to use their bathroom if the customer asks nicely and they really have to go to a toilet as fast as possible (for example a sudden diarrhea).
Considering it's in the back office, presumably where the safe is at, I'm not surprised they don't let customers use it. Even if they ask nicely. Especially after seeing how people like to destroy stuff here. If someone decided to trash their paperwork, it could create massive problems.

When I was working retail, we were required to let only 3 types of people use our toilet (even though there are an ungodly amount of public toilets in Australian retail spaces), pregnant women, elderly, and children. We'd use our discretion for friends. And we'd have to accompany them and wait out the door. Point is, employees have 1 toilet to use their entire shift, they should not have to share it with every tom d**k harry and sally who needs a pee/poo and cant be bothered walk 2 minutes to the public one.
Call out to any lawyers reading this: If throwing an object at someone and hitting them considered assault and battery, then isn’t throwing human waste at someone even worse? Why couldn’t the liquid be tested to determine if it’s urine—-wouldn’t the odor be a dead giveaway? Or was it less as case of couldn’t and more a case of wouldn’t?
I know that if that person has a disease, it can be considered assault with a deadly weapon. At least that's what my dad told me about the city I live in here in Texas. He's a retired police sergeant.

It doesn't matter if it was pee or not. A*****e threw something at you and it hit you. He is legally guilty of assault. The cops were ignorant d***s. Go back and explain this to their sargent. The a*****e and the d***s will all get nailed.
As I have already said in other spots on this thread, a lot of people who behave like this are basically showing how they behave in general. I can honestly say that it makes me glad not to be his wife. Mental Health care should be free and readily available everywhere.
Had I gotten "pee" or any liquid thrown at me into my eye, I would have immediately gone to the ER ... unknown fluids of any kind can result in horrible medical consequences and loss of sight. The police were lying. They can easily test for urine with a paper strip treated to turn colors when in contact with urine. They use them all the time on their own person when something similar happens with an alleged criminal while on duty. NEVER allow any liquid getting into your eye or mouth or open wound go untreated. I would have also filed a complaint with the shift sergeant at the police station or going up to the next level until someone paid attention to me that tax payer supported police were not doing their jobs.
Where I live this would have been treated much more seriously by the police, for the simple fact that it is a bodily fluid, so it becomes an infectious disease threat. Police would be involved and so would the health department, this guy would be in some serious trouble here.
The best way to deal with police: introduce yourself by name and ask their name. Use it often in the conversation. This way they know that if there's a problem, they've been identified. If they refuse, call dispatch: they know who was sent on a call. Meanwhile, preserve the garment. It can be tested for the guy's DNA. Then call local news and let them know what happened.

My husband used to work security at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Once he saw that people in the stands were gesturing and pointing. He started to send up medical staff, but they waved them off and pointed to the police stationed nearby. A spectator had just opened his fly and started peeing on the woman sitting in front of him. As they hauled him away, he was shaking his head and saying, "But I had to pee!"
Most police officers, and the departments which they serve, are well-functioning, and work to protect civilians. However, I have encountered law-enforcement in small towns or small departments who are unwilling to investigate a wide variety of crimes. Individual officer might be more than willing to help you out, but if their superiors have instructed them not to pursue certain types of complaints, there's not much the individual officer can do, without getting in trouble with their boss.
establishments that sell goods and services to the "public" should be required to have a restroom accessible to that same "public".

dude...that's just nasty! i've encountered businesses that don't let the customers use their toilets; I just won't spend my money there! I have walked out of a business & left whatever I was planning to buy rather than spend my good money there. ALL businesses that cater to the public should be forced to let the people spending their money there use the facilities. (when you only have one good kidney, you can't always pick & choose when/where you are when you have to go!). Likewise, folks that trash the bathrooms need to grow up & act like they've got some home-training!

No. Actually it's not. It's considered private property & the owner has discretion about who to let onto his property. I used to manage a retail store. We did not have a public bathroom. The office where I kept my belongings, the safe, all of the extra clothing without security tags attached, etc are in the back by the employee restroom. There were times when I was the only employee there. Do you think I'm going to walk a random guy to the back of the store alone (I was a 22 yo 5'8", 115 lb female)??? Nope. My safety & that of my store is more important than your laziness to go somewhere close by that has public restrooms.

When you work in any form of retail these come as no surprise. People just assume they can do what they want and you will sort out any mess etc left, then complain to social media when you ask them nicely not to behave that way. If it was their home would they tolerate you coming to their house and making a mess , of course not, but you get paid to be their nanny/housekeeper/cleaner etc etc while they are shopping, don't you?
My theory is that this kind of people have never worked in a service job, and truly believe they are better than people who do. Or they used to work in service jobs, and are now snobs about it. Some people think that if you work in lower paying jobs, that you don't deserve respect, dignity and courtesy.

I worked retail for 5 years...the "best" was when a woman who had taken 6 dresses , all over $100 each, to try on and left them in there because they didn't work. No problem...except she balled them up in the corner and peed all over them. I have an amazing memory so next time she came in the store I berated her loudly in front of at least 6 customers and she never came in again. I did get written up BUT it was totally worth it!
These are all totally unacceptable, but perhaps some of them could have been prevented by better toilet, seating and changing room provision?
The two clothing based ones are fine. Who the hell cares what people are wearing so long as they're being respectful.

In these times of entitlement and suing to get your way, disrespecting someone else's property or business is growing more common. As a society, we need to work together to correct as of these issues and try to make things better for the future.

I used to work at an ice cream shop that has a jukebox and no joke parents would let their kids just climb and play on it. Some of the buttons actually broke because of parental neglect. It's so agitating that people act like they were raised by swamp dwelling cavemen.
