It’s bizarre to think that if you’re, hypothetically speaking, forced to do something for all eternity, you’d wager it would be something that is also eternally painful or dull or, simply put, anything but pleasant. Well, eating is one thing we’re “doomed” to do for all eternity and so far most of us quite like it.

So much, in fact, that some even form very strong opinions about food, cuisine, and everything in between. And there’s been an AskReddit post about it, with thousands of people sharing their culinary hills they’d die on.

Most expensive food today is yesterday's poor food. Being fed lobster led to the first class action lawsuit in the US by prisoners who considered it cruel and unusual punishment.

Exactly! In 1984, when I first got married, Orange Roughy was considered a "trash fish" and only cost as much as hamburger, 99¢/pound. Brisket in 2001 was about the price of hamburger but regularly went on killer sales and sold for $1.49/pound. Flank steak is another example... And don't get me started about chicken wings!!!!

I always get a kick from watching Chopped when the baskets are filled with leftovers. My daughter and I have no problem formulating possible dishes from these leftovers, but all the chefs are baffled.

most of the most expesive recipes are there from poor people cooking, why would someone rich want to eat kidney, specially because when you dont how to cook it tastes like urine, so some poor people found a way to eat that ny a lenghty process, then rich people looked and said well there is only by cow, the rest is history. Even the base of french cooking is due to poor people finding ways to eat things that normally would be enedible. The best example should be polenta, the italian dish ( please correct if i am wrong), but i have been told that corn was not considered "people food" at the time where this dish appeares, it was cattle feed, so the only one who cooked polenta at the time was the poorest people, forced to eat what was considered cattle food.

It takes talent and time. And time is an extremely rare comodity when you 1) have to work long shifts because you are poor 2) can't pay to live close to where you work, so spends a LOT of time in transit

The best sandwich I've ever had was made with a frozen grocery store patty. It was seasoned and prepared by a chef classically trained in France and it brought it to world class taste levels. True talent!

I'm honestly kind of thankful that I grew up with "less". I can make a pretty decent meal out of almost nothing. I make sure to stock up on pantry staples when they're on sale. I almost always have beans, rice & pasta on hand as well as canned tomatoes, Ro-Tel, veg broth & evaporated milk (my husband & I don't drink milk, so I only buy it if I'm making something in particular). You'd be surprised what a little imagination can create.

Every once in awhile I make what I call "Poor man pasta" and I use what we have in the kitchen to make a pasta dish and it's always different every time and my family loves it. The kids say it's their favorite.

I am a f*****g Five-Star Michelin alleyway chef who can take bits and scraps of what is apparently compost and create a beautifully plated meal that will make your tastebuds join together in a choir of heavenly celebration. If your mom can cook and if you pay attention, you can sure get places in life.

We are not totally poor. But let me tell you feeding four kids plus my husband and me make some tuff times. I pity the fool to challenge me on chillie day. I got some mad recipes to make sure my family stays fed.

Most of what passes for "Italian Cuisine" in the USA and elsewhere are indeed "poor" dishes and recipes. Rich people used to have their own fancy dishes, but they lost out against the much more popular "poor" food.

The best food I've ever eaten was some cheap chicken soup pot a grandma in Italy sold to me for like two bucks. Better than anything I've ever had in a restaurant. Thinks don't need to be expensive to be tasty

My mom was very frugal, also a very good cook. I'll never forget the time my friends were over, it happened to be dinner time so, of course, they stayed (happened often). She made skillet hash from a bunch of her leftovers. My friend went home and raved to their mom's about the fabulous meal to the point they asked my mom what it was and could they have the recipe!! Mom was embarrassed to admit it was leftover hash... but maybe deep down she was proud. The leftovers were from her great meals to start with.

This is entirely false. Cheap means 'low in price or worth less than its cost.' Good food is not expensive to make, you have to know how and when to buy and how to prepare. Store bought and packaged dinners are "cheap" and taste like s**t compared to food cooked from scratch. Too much salt and sugar. Talent is knowing how to use base ingredients and spices. Check yo grammar.

I melt a little peanut butter mixed with a tiny bit of soy sauce and add it to stir fry. LOVE IT! Especially if you have chicken in the stir fry too.

You can make pastry from scratch, or you can buy it frozen in a packet. Apart from being able to say "I made it myself", nobody at home is going to know, and you just saved yourself a hour's work. ;-)

The hate for msg is just based on anti asian racism. A doctor invented the idea that it produced headaches with 0 proof whatsoever. This was used as an excuse to attack asian restaurants while many other "western" products have msg. It is been proven since then that what he claimed was a lie.
