Everyone Thought This Man Was Crying Because Of His Newborn Son Until He Revealed The Real Reason
Kirstie Perez is an experienced birth photographer, but this delivery surprised even her. During her pregnancy, the mom had been suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum, a condition characterized by severe nausea, vomiting, weight loss, and electrolyte disturbance. Her husband had been at her side throughout it all, including the 4 times the woman was hospitalized. The couple hired Kirstie to document the culmination of this experience at the hospital and she did a wonderful job. The photos are so powerful, they could easily compete for the top prizes at the most prestigious birth photo competition. However, when Kirstie told the husband that she captured him crying seeing his son he said, “That’s not why I was crying.”
“What allows me to create such intimate and powerful images is the relationships I create with each client throughout their pregnancy, delivery and postpartum,” Kirstie told Bored Panda. “They know what I stand for and my mission [is] to normalize birth and the traumatic experiences we go through as women. I genuinely love and am protective of all of my clients’ birth experiences.
The photographer said she was never okay with the phrase ‘it’s all about the baby.’ “I love babies, but I am definitely team mom,” Kirstie added. “It is much more than taking the money and showing up. The relationship is crucial. If I don’t click well with prospects during a consult, I will politely decline. I cannot, in good conscious, take funds from a mother who is vulnerable and could possibly be a better fit for someone else. I truly care about the emotional and psychological well being of my clients.”
“This time was different because this client happened to be my little sister,” Kirstie said. I watched her go through hell. <…> She was in constant pain. She could have died carrying her baby. There was no prior warning that HG was a variable in her pregnancy. I watched her fight and give her life for someone innocent. I watched her husband look on helplessly for almost a year. The emotions in the room were incredible.”

P.S. “I would like to add that birth photography is a ‘newer’ type of subject to document. It is still taboo in a lot of places. The goal of Kirstie Perez Photography is to encourage women and let them see different options of births and experiences. To let them know that they are valid and that their experiences are not simply equated to ‘well at least you’re ok.'”

People reacted strongly:
Life gave him a hundred reasons to cry... and she gave him 1,000 reasons to smile
Beautiful photos, the photographer has captured their emotions really well.
Both of those people are warriors. The woman for carrying their baby, and the man for supporting her through it all. This is what a husband is for. :)
Love this.... Was the aide de camp for my god children's father. The first time around I was excited and sympathetic as it was a long, induced, late labour. I didn't understand why my male friend was so disturbed and agitated? Why he didn't appear to want to be present at the birth of his first born son? (Mum had oodles of other support as well...in fact it was a little hard to get in the room with her....there was a line up...her Mum, sis etc) Then he told me how distressing it was to hear her agonised and in pain... he felt helpless to assist and it was more than he could bear for short periods. I had never thought about it like that. I'm a woman so I guess I always viewed birth as a painful/life altering experience that bonds you with the other person you go through it with (AKA the baby)I felt for him. No one is EVER prepared....ya know?.....
I think that, if one has nothing good to say, might as well be quiet. But I'll ask for you, pandas, read the text again, and wacth closely to the pictures. The guy is a warrior.
How lucky! I wish I could find someone like him: supportive and caring. :)
This is such an impactful set of photos. Hats off to the dad, his heart is huge and his wife and child are so fortunate to have him in their lives.
Holy c**p the tears are streaming down now... Wow, such a powerful story!
While I am very happy she came through with a beautiful baby, This made me cry. For her husband to love her so much and stay with her in every way. Then cry Just because he finally got to see her smile! and what a wonderful smile that was. Made me know what a loving husband he is.
Wow! I never had kids, but my sister's liver became toxic during her only pregnancy with my nephew, so she had to be induced prematurely (about three weeks). Understandably, given her difficult pregnancy, she and her partner only had one kid.
Really? Every woman I know when it gets around to birth time they're like "Yeah, it would be really nice if it could come out now. That's enough pregnancy for me"

This article is heartbreaking. Our standards for male partners in this country are so low. How did it get this bad? I mean yes, this guy is a good guy. But since when is being a decent human being newsworthy? Have we really sunk this low that we have to praise a man for not treating his partner like c**p during a hard pregnancy? FFS people. Maybe if this article wasn't about HIM i'd feel differently. But seriously . . . he didn't leave her when things got bad. Hooray for him!
Basil, hi. I am the photographer in this article. These people are also my sister and brother in law. I totally get what you are referring to and saying. I thought the same thing too once this gained traction but it really just highlights the conditions she had during pregnancy. We could have lost her several times during her pregnancy. This wasn't the typical birth and pregnancy situation. I appreciate your perspective. Believe me there is always more to the story than what a headline says. The headline is simply the attention grabber. <3
