Bride Spends 8 Months Crocheting Her Own $70 Wedding Dress, And It Looks Like A Million Dollars
When a 22-year-old Abbey Ramirez-Bodley from Arkansas city, U.S. couldn’t find a wedding dress in her budget, she decided to make one herself. Her aunt, who taught her how to crochet when she was 3 years old, kindly agreed to help. On October 17th, after 8 months of hard work, Ramirez-Bodley walked down the aisle in the dress of her dreams which only cost her $70, plus $100 for a green dress underneath.
“Making something with your own hands out of love is very special on the most important day of your life,” Ramirez-Bodley told Mashable. For the brides-to-be out there, she has one piece of advice to give: “Start early and don’t get frustrated. The outcome is worth all the work.”

Share on FacebookI don't particularly like it but I think the important thing is that she liked it and it made her happy. That's the only thing that matters after all.
Is it really necessary to say that the dress isn't to your taste? Abbey is clearly a very talented young lady who has used these talents to create the dress of her dreams while keeping within her budget. All credit to her I say.
I can't get over how beautiful it is. I love the green underneath, the layout, how it looks on the bride and how proud she must have felt. Just beautiful.
I like the concept.. and the scattered pattern is very pretty. A wonderful family heirloom.
If you don't have anything nice to say, shut up. Seriously. Kudos to the creator for her massive innovation under tiny budget.
Amazing, truly amazing. Doing something so important and so special on such a day in a couple's life it is magical. And it looks so authentic and original.
No shallow person here will ever begin to understand the devotion and pure love it took for this woman to make this dress. The loving energy that was put into each stich is powerful and no one will ever be able to take that away from her. Anyone can go out and buy a dress, but this is love in its purest form.
The materials may have only cost $70, but the labor involved makes this a $5000+ dress!!!! Well done!!! As a crocheter, the artistry of this is amazing.
Why do you people have to criticize this young lady's work of love? No will force you to wear her wedding dress! Also it is very rude and unkind to belittle a woman's wedding dress, it is just not done, ever!!! If you people had any propre upbring, you would know that one never criticizes the clothes of another person; least of all a wedding dress!!! It's just not correct to do so. Each person have their own taste in these matters and one is to respect this...
I never had a wedding dress but would have loved to have such a beautiful dress as this one. You may want to consider making these and selling them.
I love it, it is so beautiful, I would rather buy this dress before spending thousands on another.
What about the cost of all the hours she put in? Not $70 at all! This kind of headline devalues her artistry and labor!
I first knew about her making the dress coz she shared her work in crochet group I'm joining and it went viral from there. I adore her determination. Making hundreds of doilies out of cotton thread is not easy, let alone joining them together to form a dress. She and her aunty definitely did a wonderful job together. Respect!
What a work of art--but I'll bet it's really heavy to wear. It will be a gorgeous heirloom.
i´m not going to discuss neither my taste or her´s, but the effort. i appreciate her effort in doing something by her own and get the wedding and the dress of her dreams even with a low budget! as a personal opinion:i would have liked that the groom would have put some effort in putting some nice suit and not some everyday jeans. but his choice and again just a personal observation.
Did you see their setting?? Jeans were perfect for the groom for HIS day.
Load More Replies...She looks beautiful and very happy ... I would have chosen a lighter shade for the basic dress that the crochet pieces went over but obviously it was her choice to make and she looks lovely.
8 months to make it at 4.5 weeks per month is 36 weeks 36 weeks at 40 hours a week x 2 people her and her aunt = 2880 hours of labor and 70.00 worth of materials. Not a cheap dress even at a dollar an hour
There's no way it took that many hours. Crochet is very quick and she's been doing it since she was 3.
Load More Replies...That's not a $70 dress. It's $70 in MATERIALS. It's THOUSANDS in labor, and to imply otherwise says all the work she put into it is worth nothing. A better headline would have been "Bride turns $70 in yarn into a dress worth thousands."
Then write the article yourself, Ms. Edward R. Murrow.
Load More Replies...I think she did a wonderful job on the dress.. Interesting choice of colour (green) but it's obvious that its her favourite colour, otherwise she wouldnt have gone through all that trouble. Congratz!!
Or maybe green was a great choice for her "outdoor" wedding.

Naysayers...it was beautiful...your dress is as beautiful as you and your wedding. Who cares what anyone else thinks. I think yall will be happy for the rest of your lives...
Absolutely stunning! As a crocheter, I know what it takes to crochet from a pattern, but to create something so beautiful and so original is genius! Your husband is a lucky man to have a beautiful and very talented bride. Congratulations to you both!
Beautiful --Typical -- the bride makes all this effort over what she will wear--and the groom goes for comfort in worn out jeans. Too bad she didn't crochet him a vest or something to match but i imagine he wanted no part of it. I didn't care for the leaf bouquetat all - could have used some color.
I wouldn't wear the dress myself. What is important is that she liked it, congrats and you did a great job!!!
"A million bucks" is a strong sentiment. It's a nice dress, but probably could have been fitted more in the shoulders. Congrads, to the happy couple by the way.
What a small minded reply. Jealousy doesn't become you.
Load More Replies...Gorgeous gown, but hope the marriage lasts longer than eight months.
Obviously the only taste u have is in your mouth.
Load More Replies...So quick to judge another's work. Maybe try making something yourself instead of putting others down? More productive, no?
Load More Replies...Good thing no one asked you then is it? :) maybe instead of putting someone down, if you don't like it ignore it.
