People On This Group Are Sharing Screenshots Of Really Cringy Texts, And Here Are 31 Of The Best Ones
There’s something about asterisks in a text message that causes a very high probability of annoying the person who receives it—partly because putting this seemingly innocent typographical symbol * is about being extra. Like, telling what’s in the back of your mind without uttering it, revealing your inner emotions that nobody really wants to know, and worst, *nodding the head* to creep the heck out of the recipient. Yep, some asterisks are seriously chilling.
The Reddit community r/CreepyAsterisks2 has been documenting the most absurd, cringey, and plain scary asterisks screenshotted in text messages.
From *sigh*-inducing pickup lines to plain bizarre cases of expressing one’s motion in text, like *leaning closer,* this subreddit is the uncharted terrain of the kind of messaging style that doesn’t work that well for communicating. So let’s see some of the most cringe-inducing examples that will make you curl up like Arby’s curly fries.

These days, everything we do is via texts. We fall in love, we break up, we check on a friend, we send birthday wishes, we talk to mom and dad. Picking up the phone feels so last season, but this study says that too much texting can be harmful to our relationships.
The research conducted by Brigham Young University suggested that committed couples who use text messages to figure out their arguments can become disconnected. This is because text arguing lowers relationship quality, which essentially needs genuine face-to-face communication.
At the same time, texting is now a quintessential part of any dating game. We know that millennials are not that much into going on dates, but texting back and forth is a whole different thing. And thanks to the worldwide pandemic, it’s not going anywhere soon.

So is there a way to actually have a meaningful text conversation with someone you’re into? It turns out, this is super difficult. Because according to experts, virtual dating is not the same as real dating, and texting shouldn’t be confused with being in a relationship.
Modern dating coach Sami Wunder warns us to beware of the texting trap. Sami, who teaches women rational dating, says that going all into the first man who shows interest is the worst way to go. "You don't want to text with men too much because the more you text, the more virtual it gets."

According to Sami, “The more available you become in their heads, the less likely they are to ask you out for an actual meeting. Because honestly, there are men out there who just want a beautiful penpal."
Penpalling may sound like a good idea for some, but if you’re looking for true and meaningful relationships, you may opt for a real date. But as long as most of us are all in quarantine, a video call may as well do the job.

On the one hand, this is about the only entry that doesn't go for full-on sexual aggression so should be commended; on the other hand, the other entries show that it's just on "OK?"-response away from that.
I’m Just Gonna Randomly Text This Person!
Why use a word you think the girl will not understand in the first place? Instead of using a complicated word to make yourself feel smart, and then describe it to make the girl feel dumb, just use the less complicated word.
I assume it’s just blatant misogyny. Dickless here seems to really think women have limited vocabularies and are impressed by men being patronising braggarts. If only we could summon the words to adequately describe our repulsion to such cretins, but alas, our feeble feminine cerebellums are too filled with thoughts of embroidery, babies and husband-winning sandwich fillings.
Load More Replies...nothing makes me fall in love with somebody more than having words I understand explained to me like I'm 4 years old.

maybe its just that I'm an old fart, but why the F would you talk to a stranger/someone not your lover, like that? its even more pathetic than sending dickpicks! what kind of sad creep do you have to be to think this will work??
Rest assured it has nothing to do with your age, these people are most definitely socially inept.
Because these guys genuinely think it'll somehow get women to like them.

I had to stop reading. Things like that just wanna make me throw up.
I think I got to about the 4th one and stopped. There is definitely something wrong with those who wrote this garbage.

Is the *blahblah* stuff an attempt to narrate to try to be cute, or is it the way people actually text these days? Cause if someone texted me like that I'd cut all contact in 0,3 seconds. Pretending to be borderline psychotic isn't cute!
No, this is far from normal (thankfully). I believe there are certain corners of the internet where people participate in this kind of weird role-playing, and these dudes try to take it out into the real world... to which all their targets can only say WTF?
Doing it in a space where it’s accepted is fine. Doing it with people out in the real world who haven’t indicated that they’re into it is what’s weird.
Unfortunately it seems quite common for people who roams the internet, at least most of them knows what roleplay is and how it works. You can find tons of places and people who do that without searching too much. A guy added me to FB friends one day to talk about it, in my language you can use "roleplay" to describe D&D and other games like that so I was sure we were talking about manuals and other things. He started writing *like this* instead. Blocked immediately.
i do get messaged by weird guys, who somehow got my number. none of them ever did the *blahblah* stuff. totally creepy :(
Wow. I'm a roleplayer, used to participate in online text based wolf roleplays and embarrassing stuff like that. But what kind of idiot would use roleplay in real life to get a date? It doesn't make any sense. Maybe it's because I'm a woman, but I would never roleplay even in a normal conversation with friends or strangers, let alone whilst trying to ask someone out. They're separate worlds.
Thank you for the insight

From reading these posts I have concluded that there are too many people out there who DO NOT understand boundaries...
I feel like showering after reading it all

Wow. Is there a book or website out there for douches that recommends typing at people like this? I'm dumbfounded. I mean, I was awkward as a teen, but...this...Wow.
These texts sound like "The Best of Incel". Scary.

Guy messages me on a dating app like: I'm 50 years old with a huge d**k. I respond: No. Him: You seem uncertain. Me: No means no, asshole. Him: You are a bit feisty. Of course I know no means no, but it was just the way you said it. It sounded more like yes, you know? I mean there was something in your inflection... a certain "je ne sais quoi" that indicated maybe you were unsure of the feelings inside you. Like, your keyboard said no but your heart said yes? Love is complicated. Also, I know you didn't mean to call me an asshole. It's ok. Apology accepted. Let me know what time you want to come make it up to me. .... NO.
Wow. Wow. That's just...I don't even have words for how crazy this one is.
Good god, what did I just read? I had no idea this existed. I’m in my thirties, do people my age or older do this?
cringe through the roof, i can't read anymore.
Oh, this is so sad. Who rp's when in a chat with a stranger???
why do so many young men speak like this when contacting women? Who teaches them that anyone likes it? I'd wager there isn't a single woman on the planet that likes it. It's just horrible.
I don't know that it's "so many". Someone above said that it is used in people doing legitimate roleplaying games, but normal people don't use it outside of that. She says this is not common (thankfully).

Why are some people so disgusting like this
If people really want to do this role play crap what’s the point of texting?
We need to ask ourselves as a society what we did wrong to let this happen.
What is this s**t? Is this a thing? Jesus.. just stop it. It's gross and stupid.
I doubt this pick-up ever works so why would a person keep continuing this stupidity?
They are narcissists who can't admit they could be wrong about something. And when it fails over and over that becomes proof in their heads that women are all jerks.
Good insight.
Not necessarily narcissists as Marnie said, but certainly people who tend towards "othering" certain parts of the population, accordingly treating them like a strange, alien species that acts in mysterious ways. Any failed interaction with that "other" population just serves as proof that the "other" are truly alien and impossible to understand - it certainly couldn't be that they are normal human beings who are just naturally mystified at this weird behavior!

This is just sad to the nth degree.

What the actual hell. If anyone ever tried this with me, I would block immediately
Just when you thought men couldn't be anymore lame and creepy, this asterik/role play thing comes along.

I just don’t get how people can live with themselves like this. I would do everything I could to change into a totally different person.
So this is what long distance rape looks like. The amount of perverts on the net is extremely underestimated.
Exactly!!
I literally cannot read this, got so annoyed at the 2nd one.
I’m a RPer myself, but sweet Eru these are bad.
I've never really RP chatted but you get this a lot in some fandoms... people used to do this on Gaia Online and anime foums way back in the day when I was in my teens... there were dedicated areas for RP chat... when people did it to me outside of rp chat the best way to get back at them is messing up their RP like their first entry that said why are you in an IKEA, haha.

Xenia Granados Good response!
These people don't even deserve the first answer. Just block them straight away.

I had to stop reading these, they are so effing creepy. I almost prefer old school sexual harrassment to this truly aweful crap.
Really these people made me mad, like they gave anime lovers a bad rep. I love animes,my gf too,and my friends too. But never have i encountered one of us being like these people. Geez
Why do people do this? Yes I'm technically a millennial but I'm glad this phase passed right by me

Sasy Good response!
I wasn't aware that people still do that today. Last time I saw this was over 20 years ago 😬
What on earth have I just read? I can't begin to comprehend what set of circumstances would lead anyone (let alone dozens) to write such gibberish, nor what it represents. Weird!

Wow... Just wow. Ladies you get these all the time? I have a whole new group of awful types of guys I have to worry about my daughter meeting now.
"Cringeworthy". Cringe-effin'-worthy. There is no such word as "cringey". Honestly.
I mean this is the majority of ppl on the internet these days... For all its worth, it gives someone a good laugh at their horrible pick up lines. Welcome to the future, kids!! Prepare to be traumatised!
Do y'all notice a pattern here? All you young gentlemen, if you ever want a girls to like you (unless you are positive she likes this stuff), here is a list of 31 things to NOT do.
Seriously - WHAT THE F**K? I can't imagine a single person I know doing this creepy s**t. I think I need a shower.

*loves using asterisks to denote actions* (That said, what was put in asterisks in the examples above was indeed cringe-worthy)
Most of these are from very lonely, celibate, geeky, men who still live in their parent's basement. They play D & D and collect plastic figurines which they never take out of the box.
Even while I did some embarrassing online roleplay during my middle-high school years, I made sure to keep my limits. This is beyond overstepping.
This entire post can be summed up as that one comic: OwO what's this???

Not much different than when I worked at a bar, except it was face to face. In the early 70s. "Hey, beautiful, want to spend some time with me?" "no, thank you" "But I am dying for your touch so much it hurts!" "So go sit in a corner and play with yourself." "you don't have to be so..so.. crude!" "Yes, I do."
*Insert hide the pain harold face*
Are guys really doing this?? I feel so sorry for young girls. For pretty women all over. Being ugly has its advantages.
This kind of half-witted writing was heavily used before emo phase and was popular exclusively among teen girls. There's something highly disturbing and cringe-worthy when adult people use it. Tryin' to play sensitive card, are ya?
This reminds me of Among Us chats
The only plus point is that these people text in full sentences

maybe its a way to test the waters? like how far they can go with this person. I do it sometimes but my methods are always blunt like, *takes out boner awaiting her reaction*. lol i guess alot of these guys watch too much anime thinking if it works on there than surly it should work with me. just have a normal convo. usually works out fine.
