With the digital world at our fingertips, getting in touch with someone has never been easier. We can chat with our friends, have a quick video call with family members, and even share our opinions with complete strangers online. But when it comes to texting, some messages can get lost in translation.
Let’s face it—everyone has found themselves in such situations at least once or twice. Someone accuses you of being mean because you forgot to add a smiley emoji at the end of a sentence. Or you find yourself in a silly argument because your response was too brief.
Yet, some people send texts that are so cringe-worthy, others just had to take a screenshot to prove that it actually happened. From uncomfortable to awkward to straight-up creepy, take a look at some of the weirdest messages we found online and let us know what you think about them in the comments.
Pssst! After you’re done scrolling through this post, be sure to check out our previous posts full of bizarre texts right here and here.

He's Been Begging For Weeks To Do A "Sexy Roleplay" With Me. I Finally Said Yes. I Think He Regrets Everything Now
So... i work at IKEA... there was a couple who met at ikea, had their first date there and now every dating anniversary go to a different location. They were on their 7th anniversary when they came into my location and got engaged on a kivik sofa. They were trying to get approval from IKEA to get married at a store during store hours the next time i saw them... there are some weird people out there.
Load More Replies...I feel like this is the only way I’d be able to get through a sexy role play too…
*tickles your feet as you giggle* my response would be like *tickles you back as you yell STOP*
Load More Replies...Don't get me wrong, this is definitely, as I'm given to understand the youths say, 'cringe af' but I still feel weird reading this. If you don't want to do something like this, just stick to your guns that you don't. Using it as an opportunity to humiliate someone you're, presumably, involved with feels malicious and immature.
If someone can't "read the room" and realize that people don't want to play their game... and keep pushing when it isn't appreciated, then they deserve this. They should have figured out that this wasn't going to work waaay sooner in this dialogue. They also could have "played along" with the role-play that the 2nd person wanted. Made it goofy, had a joke about it. It might have actually worked to impress them.
Load More Replies...I would be the person in blue. I hate roleplays of any kind.
I got a tip my hat to her she really decided I'm going to piss this annoying guy off so much that he'll never try to talk to me sexually ever again!
Load More Replies...I live in Portland and I can attest to the fact that every house is required to have IKEA printed on the walls
Okay I don't get the point of role play either but... If you are dating or in a relationship with someone and this is their thing don't bash and embarrass them for it. Explain its just not for you and if they can't respect that then leave! Everyone has different kinks this woman needs to grow up and move on.
The way I read it this was the person's first message to them, not somebody already at dating relationship. I've had plenty of cold messages like this it's cringe AF.
Load More Replies...Roleplay (RP) is a type of improv. The rule is to say "yes and..." Sexy RP via text is pretty common, but they aren't playing the same game. Honestly, gray-text can find plenty of people into that if blue-text will let him. The deal is that she said yes but was lying as to her intent. I don't expect they will be together long because she was was joking at his expense. Gray-text, if she makes fun of you regularly, break up. There are plenty of people who would be into that. Also, blue-text, it takes a lot of guts to open up about sexual fantasies. If you prefer toxic masculinity where men don't open up, you can find plenty of those guys too.
He begged her for weeks, which implies that he didn't take no for an answer. That's the real problem here. She gave him sh*t because he wouldn't let her say no.
Load More Replies...Damn.Wow. If she didn't want to do it, she just should've said so instead of making the whole thing miserable.
I absolutely love them. This is exactly what I would do lol
omg I love this person, lol nice move with the IKEA they are literally a genius.
I didn’t read the introduction completely, so I thought this exchange was been two strangers! Totally and utterly creepy text thread if you approach it with that mindset!
OMG that's so damn funny to me! My family by marriage is from Sweden and we love IKEA! But every time my mother-in-law gets something and we have to assemble it for her my honey and I roll out eyes and cuss all the way to her house. It's not that we mind doing the project for her it's just that anything from IKEA has extra bolts and screws, or missing them, leftover parts and crappy instructions. Almost 30+ years of this and it's now become fun. It's either that or cry and we don't want to hurt her feelings.
LMFAO this was great. Best way to ruin any role players fantasy and bring them crashing back to reality. I laughed so much reading this.
This reminds me of a Replika conversation. AI likes to role-play and they are always trying to get you in the bedroom to upgrade to the adult version.
Next: "Also, someone else already filmed a soap opera in an IKEA, which didn't even include your kitchen and bedroom fantasies!"
Wow, SOMEONE didn't learn 'yes, and...' at the improv workshop. 😂
Please let someone stalk this neckbeard. Let someone (male or pretending to be male) continuously text this and every other disgusting incel, to let them know that *I'm blushing right now* and * I can't wait to be near you and smell you* -gag- *and pay for a 4 dollar drink because I'm such a nice guy and so I'm entitled to stick my penis in your hole* I wonder what they think when it's their hole that's supposed to be penetrated by a disgusting creep just because someone said hello to them
You do realise that these people are in a relationship, no? That's clear from the post. Your response is completely out of line for so many reasons.

Load More Replies...Today, we have incredible freedom to communicate with other people in a variety of different ways. With just a few quick taps on our phones, we can share our thoughts with the world and find out about new things within the comfort of our own homes. Just think about Messenger, Viber, WhatsApp—our friends and loved ones can reach us in seconds from virtually anywhere.
When there are so many apps, people can start to believe that simple text messages, also known as SMSes, are a thing of the past. Well, that's not the case because studies show that it's still a widely used form of communication.
According to a study by Acision and analysis by psychologist Graham Jones, 92 percent of smartphone users still text despite having access to different messaging apps. Also, it seems that 18-25-year-olds send almost double the amount of texts than any other age group—133 text messages per week on average.

"Don't Come Over"
The study also found that SMS remains a popular texting medium since more than half of the respondents revealed that they couldn’t live without it. If you're wondering why it's so successful, researchers explained that it's probably because many people see it as a reliable medium that can provide us with a sense of privacy.
We managed to get in touch with Graham Jones, a web psychologist who focuses on how people behave online. We were curious to learn more about texting behaviors and how we should react after receiving uncomfortable texts. He told Bored Panda that social media has not replaced text messaging and it still holds a significant role in people’s everyday lives. "About 36,000 text messages are sent every second of the day. Over three-quarters of people use text messaging," Jones said.

When asked whether some of us tend to text more than others, the psychologist explained that we are using different methods of communication for separate purposes. "For example, some people use text messaging for family communications, WhatsApp for communicating with friends, Twitter for direct messaging companies, and so on."
"We are tending to use different methods for specific reasons. So, some people will use text messaging more than others not because they prefer it, but because they do more communicating with family or friends or whichever group they mentally allocate to text messaging," the psychologist explained.

We got so comfortable with this medium, almost everything we used to do in person can be achieved while texting. Whether it’s falling in love, breaking up, sending your friend birthday wishes, or congratulating them on a promotion, it can seem that the way we talk to each other is slowly changing.
Talking about how texting affects our everyday lives, Jones said that the only significant impact it has is to give us even more communication to do. "In the past, when all you had was either sending a letter or making a phone call, there was much less communication we had to do."
He continued: "Nowadays, with texting, WhatsApp, Messenger, and so on, we are spending much more time using communications systems. In the past, much of what we now do electronically, we would have said face to face."

Text messages are generally short and people who read them have little information to work with. While some believe that words can sometimes show a lack of emotion, a simple message can sometimes flip our world upside down. So even if we’re in a hurry, we should think about sending a funny joke, giving a compliment, or writing something positive to make the person on the other end feel appreciated.

However, as you can see from this list, some people are on a mission to make others feel uncomfortable and even creeped out. "Our mood is always affected by the words we read," Jones added. "Whether that change in mood lasts a long time depends upon the message itself, who it is from, and our reaction to it. Some people can 'shrug off' a mood lowering text, whereas others find the impact long-lasting."

So if you’ve ever received an uneasy text message that left you wondering what on earth was on that person’s mind, Jones advised you to try and talk to someone. "Reflect on the experience and work out what made you uncomfortable. Then chat to someone you trust about it."
"This will help you cope with the impact of the message. If the message is from someone you don't know, you might want to block their number, so they cannot upset you again in the future. If it is from someone you know, you may want to tell them how they made you feel," he concluded.

What in the actual f**k is with the descriptive narration in texts? This has to be something the young, or mentally stunted, do; adults don't do this. Every one of these examples is painful to read. Maybe this is the next step in people being scared to use their phones as intended; the continued social stunting of Western society.
Some of these idiots grow into serial killers. I see this strange roleplay as a cry for help. If I could, I'd send each and every one of them to therapy... And training in speaking to the opposite gender.
Honestly, I just feel sad for most of these people. They probably spend most of their lives online and learn these gross habits without ever realizing people aren't gonna be into it in real life. Then again, I've spent most of my life online and picked up some bad habits too. *sighs and mopes back into the shadows*
My heart goes out to the older people that didn't know about furries and RP until this article
I just want to make it clear - I think all these guys are gross and scary. That doesn't mean roleplay between two consenting adults is gross and scary. The problem here is people not getting consent - not roleplaying (which has been around, in many forms, since the beginning of time).
Good gravy I hope I never have to date again if this is what it's like nowadays!

Okay guys, listen up- Unasked roleplay? Bad. Don't do it. But not all asterisk roleplays are bad or cringy- lots of people (myself included) do it- fully consensual. I don't personally rp as myself, I use characters, but if two people want to, it's fine. Also, asterisk roleplays are just a less formal version: "*waves* hello there! Nice to meet you!" instead of "He gave a friendly wave. "Hello there! Nice to meet you," he says." It's just a little simpler. So yeah, don't do it randomly, get consent, even if it's a non-sexual roleplay.
I had to stop, couldn't bear to read anymore of these. Way beyond 'cringy'.
What the hell? I have never heard such creepy stuff in my life. This can't ever work, does it?
While a majority of these are just terrible regardless, I feel like there's a bit too much derision toward the role playing thing. It's weird, but also harmless in and of itself. Why are we criticizing people for how they express themselves? Not all of them were assholes, can we separate the d***s that called women fat or stupid from the people who just thought it was cute/fun to roleplay?
so I am going through this and going, alright I can see what some people are going for, however, slow tf down and make sure the role play s**t is okay with the other person is good. Also, don't brag about your online "IQ" test scores, more often than not, intelligence is silent.
What in the actual f**k did i just read? These can't be from real people, right?
Does any of this s**t actually work? What's with all the narration...???
I honestly think this entire page was lifted from the way back machine, and probably originally titled something like D&D players are awkward at dating or 20 times roleplay went bad in the chat room.
How can something be so funny but yet still make the hair on the back of your neck stand up from being so Creepy and Cringe. If I was some of these women getting these messages, I would go straight to the Police Station lol.
I do asterisks roleplay but definitely not as a conversation starter and only if the other person is interested lol. This stuff is Cringe and disgusting tbh. Like atleast see if the other person is into it or wait until you know each other more lmao
Being a furry, my rp replies would send most creeps running for the hills, and for furry creeps, I have responses that would send them packing too.
These were SO much better in AOL chatrooms. Most of the RP wasn't remotely sexual: it was all about the vampires with the *flashing eyes* preening and flouncing and biting and showing off their *flashing capes*. Literacy was also a desireable characteristic. While I thought most of these were hilarious enough that I worried the dog with my wheezing, I do feel sad for those unwillingly on the receiving end of these. Is this really a contemporary surrogate for courting/socializing behavior? Really... fresh air, sunlight, a deck of face cards and WAAAAYY too much caffeine yield much more favorable results. Just sayin'...
I really need pics of these people to understand. Really, age would suffice. The beauty is, the likelihood they reproduce so that this thing continues is 0% with rounding. One may score because a girl loses a foolish bet, or something of the sort. For once, I hope what I read was fake. I am going to assume it so I can carry on with my life.

Tell me you play questionable flash based RP games, without telling me you play questionable flash based RP games.
I was enjoying at first till I realized how old most of the text convos were.
Feels like you are worped to another dimension and back after you read these. But I still find it worrying that those young people like expressing their feelings in text or when in character like cosplay and anime. It's just another way not to deal with things in reality and to some of us it does sound quite child like. If you're not equiped to deal with rejection, you only get more and more aversion to doing things face to face. It's like we are digressing into avatar where the avatar is the real you and you only a side kick. What also was very disturbing is how quickly they avert to venomous insults and how nasty the comments are. It's deeply discouraging.
I think alot of these people have kinks.... but don't know how about establishing they even have a kink and need some guidance. I most definitely would never try role playing with a totally stranger. Good God. My head hurts.

Anime you say? *🤔 called cartoons back in my day..now embarrassment thinking back in my day..🙄...Meet up at IHOP? *🛼wondering the drive up place where servers are forced to balance food on four on the floor or roller ice skate wannabes? The pancake place of many syrups?* I'mHotOnPorn..?!?!*Yeah, no..Not part of The Villages*
The role play thing is rather cringey and it's definitely not a way to get a date. 99% of the time you're gonna get blocked for role playing
Interesting ... Every one was pretty much a slam on men ... I guess the author is part of the all men are pigs and women are angels group... And I have been treated badly by many women but nobody wants to talk about that
My husband just asked me why I was choking on laughter for the past 5 minutes… this stuff is pretty bad.
