A sense of entitlement is a personality characteristic that's not exclusive to spoiled kids. The belief that you deserve special treatment or recognition for something you haven't earned can be quite universal.

And the subreddit which we will call 'Entitled Batch' can prove it — this online community is dedicated to shaming people who think they can always get their own way and are better than everyone else.

The moderators, however, point out in its 'About' section that the sub "in no way intends to spread hate or abuse or to offend any party, it was created for story sharing and entertainment."

Since its inception in December 2018, it has amassed quite the collection. Here are some of the most popular posts that have appeared on the sub since our last publication on it.

I'll Be Here For The Rest Of The Day

vincethewillnill Report

If a person isn't behaving as badly as these folks and you aren't sure whether they might have a sense of entitlement, experts suggest going through the following characteristics and seeing if they apply:

  • People with a sense of entitlement expect to get preferential treatment and special favors in life, without regard for why they should be treated specially. They assume "the world owes me." For instance, they might feel that the policies of an organization should not apply to them because they should be treated with special favors.
  • Regardless of what they have, they strongly believe that they deserve more. They expect to elevate their lifestyle above that of others without putting in the effort needed to do so.

If someone has a problem with them or does not agree with what they are doing, they will try to make the other party feel as if they are wrong and that it is a horrible thing to disagree with them.
  • Their personal needs come before everyone else's needs. They believe that it is your job to ensure they have everything they need, even if this means that you have to sacrifice taking care of yourself.

  • They're very dramatic when something does not go their way. In these cases, they might try to make themselves look better by bringing you down.
  • They are not grateful for what they have in their life. A person with a sense of entitlement may not say thank you or show other signs of appreciation for what they have. This is because they believe it is their right to have everything, so they don't value anything.

Some ass reported and complained about a bird feeder my mom has had hanging on her tree for over 50 years. She is disabled, so she sits in her window and watches the birds - it's just about been her spot of Light all these years. Someone who just moved into the area and jogs, in his bare feet, reported it because there were a few seeds on the public sidewalk, usually just from the wind or a squirrel as the feeder was well away from the sidewalk. It broke her heart. Luckily the guy moved and she was able to put it back up. Some people don't realize that their entitled actions that are all about them often hurts a lot of people.

Because it's an HOA. HOA's are very restrictive to home owners.... can't paint your house a colour that's not approved, yard needs to look a certain way, can't build certain things on your property, etc.

It's not always so simple. Depending on the market the only home you can afford might be in an HOA. That’s what happened to a friend of mine when she moved back o Michigan to live near to her elderly parents.

Wish my HOA was that strident. I live in a townhouse condo community. There is a family 3 units down with 2 young children. Kids laughing & playing is one thing, but these f*cking little monsters do nothing but SCREAM - ALL DAY LONG. I'm mean it seriously sounds like someone is torturing them. I've been tempted to record it & blast it outside their parents' bedroom window at 2:00am.

I’ve lived in 4 communities/subdivisions which have HOAs. Some have been great. My current one does little more than collect the money once a year and pay the guy who mows the grass in the common area. I’ve found several common threads with people who complain about them. #1. Their realtor failed to tell them there was an HOA. #2. They knew there was an HOA when they bought, but failed to read it. #3. They are people who don’t like rules…period!

(chuckle) It never fails. Sooner or later, some HOA defender *always* trots out the old saw about junk cars in the yard. Well, in nearly 70 years of living in HOA-free neighborhoods, never once have any of my neighbors had a junk car, broken washing machine, old tires or what have you in their yard. And what, pray tell, is wrong with a carport?

I hate HOA’s. Most of the rules they come up with would be thrown out in a heartbeat if they were taken to court. A friend of mine was told she couldn’t plant certain plants because they thought they were weeds—they were certain flowers she used for dyes when she made fabric.

When you move into a neighborhood with an HOA, you sign a legally binding agreement to abide by the HOA's rules and regulations. If you refuse to sign, you won't be allowed to buy the house.

When I moved to the USA, I was staggered to learn about HOAs (home owners associations) in the land that proclaims itself the freest of all free things. It's ridiculous what these organizations do. I made sure never to live in a neighbourhood that had one. Don't tell me what I can do on my own property! This includes things like what colour your front door can be, what plants you have in the garden, how often you have to mow the lawn, what decorations you can and can't have, how and when you have to display the American flag... the list is endless.

I Guess She Got The Answer

masteromatic Report

  • A sense of entitlement tends to be spread across their entire life. Someone who acts this way about one thing is likely to act the same way in other situations as well. They may be greedy or will take friends for granted instead of being appreciative.
  • They act like victims and blame other people or outside forces for their problems. Again, someone with this attitude believes the world owes them and that other people are responsible for making their lives better.

But if you read through the list and remain unsure, look them up on the subreddit 'Entitled Batch'. If they're not here, maybe they aren't that bad, eh?
