Genius designers are obviously made, not born - that's the thought that's likely to pop into your head after scrolling through the popular subreddit Crappy Design. Here you can find the most artistically deprived and esthetically sinister design fails, which will have you wondering just how on Earth any of these product design ideas were allowed to get made.

Obviously, not everyone was meant to be an artistic virtuoso, but these epic fails are so 'out there' and impractical that it's hard not to judge them while rolling on the floor laughing. Here are the bad designs that we think are the most interesting and the funniest. So scroll down, upvote your favorite funny photos and let us know if you've seen designs worse than these! The metric system makes so much more sense, why the imperial system is still used is beyond me.

Tradition. One reason to do stupid things is "because we have done it always that way". It doesn't matter if something else is better. It took us centurys (and we are not done yet) to realize that women are not lesser humans. But tradition says women have voting right in their household. That should be enough.

The UK still uses the Imperial System, partially, anyway. Roads, for example, still use miles, as do most railroads (excluding the London Underground). Body weight is measured is stones & pounds (pounds & ounces for young children)

The UK still irritates the s**t out of me for this totally idiotic usage, if you are going metric, do it properly , not some half baked approximation of it. The now defunct Jeremy Clarkson (Twatson) kept on whining about " What's that in Church of England" when presented with a metric statistic. Dumb twat, like the rest of the UK, get with the f*****g programme folks, Miles, feet, inches, pounds, shillings and pence, stones and pounds and ounces, acres etc. only exist because you idiots refuse to move into the 21st century, because you think it "Quaint and uniquely British"to have you little idiosyncratic "We're British and this is the way we have always done it, so f**k you very much" News for you: You and Boris, are basically the European equivalent laughing stock of Donald in the US. I an old colonial, so don't get some silly idea that this is a US or Brit bash. Ahh what the f**k, actually it is. Stupid countries with stupid systems.

So what? People use whatever measure they find convenient. Beads have always been made in mm sizes, and necklaces have always been measured in inches, so nobody bats an eye when a catalog offers a necklace "8 mm x 18 in". Everybody knows what size that is and it would be inconvenient to try to change the system. Likewise, gold is measured in toz or grams and there is zero confusion. Gemstones are measured in carats, and most people have no clue how many carats are in an ounce (141.75). Furthermore, nobody cares. The carat is a convenient measure and that is the end of it.

Because it's idiotic to hang on to a system that no one else uses, "just because". And no, I don't know what an inch is compared to cm, or pound or ounce compared to grams and kilos. And everyone uses carat, so that's just a bad example

This seems out of place on this list. Also, the Imperial System has nothing whatsoever to do with temperature, or the order in which day, month, and year are written. The Imperial System was created as a uniform system of trade. I can't remember the last time I bought 40 degrees of milk.

To Nia Loves Art: You are absolutely right. People in the USA are doing fine with the imperial system, but let me add that this holds true only for as long as they are not interacting with the rest of the world. You are also correct in saying that it would be a hassle to change. Quite so, but change is what we do when a better or more efficient way has been found. Take Sweden changing from driving on the left-hand side of the road to driving on the right. A non-binding referendum on the introduction of right hand traffic was held in Sweden on 16 October 1955.[1] The voter turnout was 53.2%, and the suggestion failed by 15.5% against 82.9%. However, eight years later, the Riksdag approved the change, and Sweden switched from driving on the left-hand side of the road to the right on 3 September 1967. (Listen and learn, all Brits, what can be done with a non-binding referendum!)

ui design for beginners If you are from the design field or someone who is looking to get in this field, UI Design is something that you are going to hear a lot about. Especially if you are into website making and designing, UI design is exactly what you should look for. Anything unique that your website provides, will likely draw attention to the content. But you must not forget the important parts. Your uniqueness for your website should lead the attention to the main purpose that a user is expected to fulfil. Smart Colouring Colours affect the mood of the user. The colour you choose and the way you show it on your website will speak volumes for your brand. Conclusion In the end, it’s important to remember that UI design is all about the way you represent your brand or the website. The easier it is to interact and understand the functions, the more engaging the website will be. <a href="https://imaginxp.com/courses/ux-ju

Yeah, the Metric System is much better. But it was developed after the beginning of scientific era and was enforced by a brutal tyrant. The so-called Imperial System was developed before the scientific era. I embrace the metric system, but trying to change a culture is much, much, much more difficult than spouting "shoulds" and "this is how it ought to be".

If I'm correct only US, Burma and Myanmar use this odd scale. It does not make any sense and it is pure madness. By the way, almost all scientific publications (even in US) are written using the metric system, it's standardized all around the world also the best system ever and completely logical.

Certainly for computers, the way that the rest of the world does dates is so much better for date arithmetic. The US (and other countries) have hybrid systems. A bottle of wine is 750 ml, a bottle of beer 12 oz. Scientists and Sf writers use meters. The military talks in klicks (kilometers) As for temperature, in some countries I have seen it both ways. I wish the US would convert but I bet we will be cooking in Imperial for centuries.

Australia went metric last century, so you CAN get used to it. It's just too bad that most of the aircraft we fly in Oz are US-built, because that means that pilots have to be adept at using both systems, as well as being able to mentally calculate approximations of conversions. Thanks for nothing! ;)

Before I got smart and moved to a ranch in New Mexico, I lived in Ohio...they TRIED to get the metric system to go through osmosis. They had prominently displayed highway signs with 'CONVERT TO METRIC--.61 mile = 1 kilometer." and on and on. Well since so many peeps ignore the signs anyway, it was another waste of ODOT funds. If they just do it OVERNIGHT, then peeps would HAVE to adapt. I'm being charitable now! I know that will never happen.

i prefer Fahrenheit for measuring temperature outside, as it isn't very telling how hot "25 degrees" is in Celcius. for general area temperature Fahrenheit makes a lot of sense. is it a big number? then it's hot. low number? cold. badda bing badda boom. As for the month/day/year thing, verbally, it is easier to go that way because it requires fewer words. "April 21st, 2004" vs "The 21st of April, 2004" but yeah imperial inches/feet/yards/miles suck

Actually, salt water freezes at 0, so it's not arbitrary. And with F, you typically don't use decimal points, because it has smaller units. 100 F is about the maximum temp at which people can really cope, since that is just above our body temperature. So, I don't really see F as being any worse than C. The rest is all ridiculous, though. As a software developer, the month, day, year thing drives me nuts.

The metric system was made to measure water. That's why 0 degrees is the freezing point and 100 is the boiling. The imperial system was made to measure the temperature of the human body. To me it makes sense to use the imperial system. Stop bashing Everything that is different about Americans it gets old. Month/day/year has nothing to do with imperial or metric. Both Canada and America use both all the time. Month/day/year is the only one that makes sense though because unless you're making a historical British documentary, nobody says "T'was the 14th of May, 1865". It's "I bought that cake on March 19, 2012"

Not here to dispute metric or celsius, but listing the order of the date via something as arbitrary as "days are shorter than a month" etc is dumb. Listing the month first conveys the relatively most important piece of information, then which day specifically in that month, then the year for clarity.

Mostly tradition, but Fahrenheit really is a better system (though it could definitely be improved). The temps from 0-100 are the temps that normal people might experience outside a lab setting. Celsius puts boiling water at 100 degrees, but the overwhelming majority of people will never use the numbers between 50 and 100 at all.

Bored Panda reached out to Crappy Design’s community to learn a bit more about the subreddit. “The original motivation for the subreddit was to point out crappy designs. Nowadays, most subscribers probably come here for entertainment. However, it is common to have meaningful discussion here on why or why not something is crappy design,” the subreddit’s moderators explained.

They also added that “the subreddit was created 8 years ago. Currently, there are 1.7 million subscribers with over 2 million page views per month. It is very popular.”

While looking through the pictures, some of us are sure to be thinking that we could have done a far better job designing these things than the people who made them. The ‘Crappy Design’ subreddit's members most likely think the same.

The Interaction Design Foundation explains that bad designs are overloaded with information and force the user to do more work than is necessary. Akshayta Rao writes that we all intuitively notice badly designed items but find it difficult to explain why good designs are, well, good. According to her, a well-known example of bad design would be USB cables. She’s right because we’ve all tried plugging them in the wrong way more than once. Some of us maybe even hundreds of times.
