Muslim Man Posts On Twitter How His Jewish Co-Worker Treats Him Every Day
Working next to someone every single day is not an easy task. As time goes by you get to know your co-worker better, and whether you like it or not, you have to try your best to be as kind as possible to each other. After all, you are spending most of the time together. For some, it can get even more difficult if their colleague shares different cultural or religious beliefs, and it can get challenging to respect each other despite having completely different ways of living.
Recently one Muslim man named Umar shared how his Jewish co-worker treats him at work
“I first noticed Elliot was nicer than others when I’d mention halal/haram (lawful/unlawful) and he knew exactly what I meant. Even times when a few of my coworkers would go to a meat deli at lunch or for beers, he knew not to invite me because he knew I’d say no. Elliot was knowledgeable on Islam to a high degree. Over time, it became more apparent that he genuinely cares about others and looks out for their best interests,” Umar told Bored Panda.
Many people were expecting a completely different story and were glad that it turned into a positive lesson for many of us

Share on FacebookAll reasonable people can get along with each other regardless of gender, religion. colour, social status etc. etc. It's the fanatics and the ignorant that mess this world up. The media give all the negative incidents all the coverage and hardly ever report positive things that are happening. As you can read in the comments almost everyone expected another story about intolerance and hate. That's how our minds are set right now.
Wow, that coworker did his homework! I'm a non-practicing Jew (and yet still identify as Jewish) so I eat bacon cheeseburgers without shame, but I'm always touched when someone stops and asks "oh c**p, this has pork. Is that okay?" I always assumed that Halal was basically equivalent to Kosher, but the gelatin thing really threw me.
If I'm not mistaken, gelatin is often made with animal bones--usually those of a pig. As a conservative Jew (someone who is somewhat religious, yet not Orthodox ) as a kid, my mother wouldn't let me get certain Hostess snacks because they were made with animal fat or bones.

In academia I work with people from a wide range of cultures and religions. It's kind of funny that I'm the athiest, but know more about their religions and make sure they're being accommodated than some super-religious people. It's just respect for others.
I think most atheists are more likely to know about more religions because they’re not afraid to look to other fatiths for information. It seems some Christians don’t want to explore others beliefs. They’d find they have a lot more in common than they think. At least this has been my experience. I have a huge catholic family but was raised Jehova Witness (cult, not religion). I’m atheist but I respect others choices as long as there’s no hate or harm towards others.

A lot of people are surprised when they get to know that stories of this kind are very common in Israel. There are so many places where daily co-existence between Arabs (Muslims and Christians), Druze and Jews is a reality. Thousands of people work together in companies, start-ups, making music and movies, hospitals and even serve in the army.
Ah ! Such a beautiful post.Loved it ! May Allah give guidance to that man. Today, the global society is in need of such stories to be shared explicitly. :)
@Øyvind Havn at least they were not practicing human sacrifice like some in northern europe ;) and you should read old testament for understanding where all that violence in quran is coming from. p.s. l'm against all kind of violence and religions, not protecting anyone here.

There's an episode where he goes to Israel and then visits Palestinians in refugee camps in the Gaza Strip. It's a funny show, but Conan talks to people to ask about what they think could help bring peace to the region. There's also a somewhat sad yet hopeful scene where he visits victims of the war in Syria in a hospital. It's small acts of kindness like the ones in this story that I think will someday bring about a more peaceful world. Big peace talks and treaties and resolutions seem to be for show on the world stage. Little gestures of kindness and understanding are the things that improve the world person to person one day at a time, imho.

They do though. It’s pretty rare to see problems between Muslims and Jews unless it has something to do with Israel and Palestine. In the Middle East we have been peacefully sharing our countries together since before your countries were even thought of. In Iran we have many synagogues and a healthy Persian Jewish population. The same can be said of many Arab countries as well. Just because Americans are too far up their own asses to see the rest of us as normal humans doesn’t mean we aren’t “following in this manner.”

The year we were there, the holiday was observed in the weeks surrounding Christmas. Our office was planning a potluck feast. Out of respect for his religion, we decided that everyone would stay late that day so he could eat after the sun went down. I took it a step further researching food restrictions and made a special dish of butter carrots with dill and I brought dates for him to eat before starting the meal (iftar.) He asked how I knew what to make. I said if I wasn't willing to put some effort into researching something, then I had no business being a college student. Unfortunately, the niceties from our university ended when 9/11 occurred. He was asked to leave because of uproars from narrow-minded parents claiming he'd corrupt their kids. Like the author stated, they might help each other look out for their dietary needs, their prayer needs, and even answer questions from clients about "the man with the funny hat," or "the woman with the scarf on her head". One of the biggest advantages to working with people from a different religion, is that you can cover each other's shifts on the holy days. Muslims volunteer to work on Christmas, Easter, and the Jewish High Holy Days. Jews volunteer to work on Christmas, Easter, and the Eids. When Christians enjoy the benefit of not having to work on Christmas or Easter, they are more likely to volunteer to work on Jewish and Muslim holy days.
I was very closely involved with Hillel, the Jewish student organization, on my small college campus and at the larger campus of our state school in our state capital. In my journey toward Islam, some of my best supporters were Jews, ranging from casual Jews to moderately observant Jews to Orthodox Jews, including an intelligent, compassionate and humorous Orthodox rabbi. I have been involved in interfaith groups where Jews and Muslims worked well together to support common causes, such as attending protest rallies when hate groups came to demonstrate in our state capital.

It's still amazing people can think stories like this are going to end badly. Decent human beings don't hate each other based on their faith, culture, skin colour, sexual orientation, etc. And relating specifically to this story, not every Jewish person is close-minded enough to hate someone who is Muslim, much like how we were told as kids that cats and dogs are natural enemies. My cat and dog get along just fine. Humans can too, if we choose to be nice to each other.
Far more common than most people realize. Remember that in 2011 thousands of Muslims showed up to use their bodies has human shields to protect Egypt's Coptic Christians as they observed a Christmas mass. “We either live together, or we die together,” was the slogan coined by Mohamed El-Sawy

I don't care with Jewish "no emotional towards them", I'm surprised when I've read stories that tell racism from foreign people against black people, Jewish, Muslims any other religion and ethnic . But, I really hate Zionist and I think they are like Nazis and Apartheid system. So, I'm sure when the war is gonna start these 2 guys will lift weapons to fight each other.
It is a nice story, but it show both of them have little real knowledge about the totalitarian, racist and sexist ideology/superstition Islam and the inventor. First of all history from Islamic sources tell that Muhammed was a mass murderer (read the story of the ca 800 defenceless Jews he killed and more), slave owner, racist, torturer, conquer, assassin of opponents, rapist, child molester, sexist despot. Ergo he is not a man with ideas normal people with knowledge will listen to. The content of the Quran and Hadiths is so bad, that everyone who read it must take a stand against this kind of extremism, since it has no place in the modern world. Treat Muslims nice and help them understand that the only right thing to do is becoming a X Muslim. I know they are persecuted and fear for their life, but those who break out are brave and deserve our respect. Here is one brave X Muslim you can listen to, if you are ignorant. http://abdullahsameer.com/blog/does-the-quran-contain-hate-speech
The reason to not follow Islam is because there’s no such thing as god. What some ancient dude did thousands of years ago is not a good reason really.

Yes, we do all know why. Because when white people go on tv to talk s**t about Islam, it’s often just code for Arabs. They don’t care about Islam. They have an issue with middle eastern people and they hide behind Islam like cowards so they can openly discriminate. Not everyone who is a critic of Islam is this way but enough are that it looks trashy when you whine about it. Anyone with a base knowledge of these ridiculous religions knows that Christianity and Islam are virtually the same nonsense. That’s how you know Christians are full of s**t when they criticize Islam, and that it’s race that motivates them. I know this first hand because I’m an Iranian atheist and I hate Islam with a passion, intimately. And I’m also aware that most of you gross a*s hillbillies who say anything about Islam are applying it to all middle eastern people and are adding s**t on that has nothing to do with Islam. What can you dorks even come up with about Islam that doesn’t apply to Christianity?

In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and adders. How terrific was his fight against the Jewish poison. Today, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before the fact that it was for this that He had to shed his blood upon the Cross. Yeah this is stupid, so a human of a different faith treats another human with respect and consideration. STOP THE PRESS! Is this really what it has come to?
Sadly, yes. Talking about hate bring hates. Why can't we talk about peace?
Load More Replies...I was waiting for this post to be negative. I found it very uplifting that someone knows enough about his religion to have a conversation with him about every day work issues.
Aaaa bless this man! Both of them! It’s pleasant that people can actually be reasonable.
At my job we are forbidden to discuss religion or politics so....wouldn't work for me.
I was on a cruise 2 years ago with a Muslim being our waiter. At first he was quite aloof with us knowing that we were kosher Jews, however by the time he cruise was over-we learned so much of eachothers religion- we both had much respect for one another and he said he never made friends with a Jew before us!
Every faith can get along. It's upbringing that's often the problem just as racism is taught from a very early age. No one, of color, of faith, of heritage pops out of their momma hating, it's taught! I'm glad this man has so much respect and caring for his fellow co worker! Blessed Be (I'm Wiccan)
This was what I expected although I know this employer went the extra mile to make sure the Muslim man was comfortable psycological. As a person in office in a company, he has a responsibility to, and should have the intelligence and social conscious to treat others with respect and dignity. I have friends of the Jewish faith and they are highly ethical as a general rule.
Yeah if we all could focus on life and humans and not take fantasy beings so seriously, that'd be great. But I like the way the guy posted this ... suspenseful :)
Israeli Jew not a complete bastard. Such a shock it makes a news story?
Great story, unfortunate that more people arent able to be that kind to one another
This made me happy wish more people could be like this co-worker. Very considerate definitely friend material.
Uh, okay. You guys realize that brown folks are humans too right? You don’t need to praise us for being kind, we aren’t savages like some of you think. The fact that these bros didn’t let their batshit backwards a*s religions ruin their friendship is really not remarkable at all. Most people do this.
Lovely colleague. Not shre what us ok, but checking all the same. Muslim too. Wonderful person.
Racist again Jews before you even started to read, now who is in the wrong?
As a Jew, I am insulted by this. Are we supposed to be racists? Do we now get a gold star? whatever.
The most people I hate in all over the world are "Zionists" a group of lands thieves.
Load More Replies...my God doesn't divide people into denominations. He doesn't care whether you pray or not. But he notices good deeds. What about yours?
Then what use does your god even have to anyone? And which god are you talking about? The Muslim, Jew and Christian all worship the god of Abraham anyway.
Load More Replies...I wouldn't have gone through the trouble. He's a muslim with all these needs - he should plan ahead. In fact he ought to just stay home since he's got to point his a**e to the sky and "pray" 5 times a day. People should make no mistake, doesn't matter what kindnesses or respect were showed him - if he were ordered to by his Imam he'd cut the Israeli's throat in a cold second.
Just wait until they become majority and impose sharia law on you. Islam is not a mere religion, it is a complete set of ideologies covering everything and demands dominance over anything else. Some moslem are nice people because they don't closely follow the teaching, they incorporates their own reasoning, they questions and put their own conscience into work instead of blindly following koran.
I'm an idiot. My name is Carol Emory. I didn't even know Christians are Jew-killers...despite Jesus dying as the King of the Jews. Apparently, creatives aren't very bright.
You did not get the point... it's the other way round. :)) The post is written by a Muslim who is praising God for his Jewish colleague, who cares about his beliefs and well-being! And all are happy about the positive news, against the horrible stereotype we are fed daily by the news. That's all. ^-^ Have a good day.

It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded only by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God's truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice." -adolf hitler

If its not halal, then they dont eat it.. no fuss about that.. breaks? for and 8 hour job say, 8am to 5pm. You only break twice.. Depend on where you live, something the noon prayers falls on lunch break.. so you need to take only one extra break. a less than 5 minute break.. you take toilet break/smoke break longer than that... How is this a problem?
