Cousin Keeps Bragging About Her “Wealth”, This Woman Keeps Silent About Her Fiancé Being Her Husband’s Boss And The Cousin Is Furious When She Finds Out
The world is packed with different personalities; each person has their own mindset and a distinctive set of life values. Some are kind and prefer to surround themselves with wholesome energies – others live with their huge egos and never miss a chance to make someone’s life a living hell.
Encountering bigheaded people is highly unpleasant and, frankly, pretty inevitable – however, what’s worse is having these types of individuals in your family.
Though we’re often told that we can’t choose our family, it’s safe to say that the statement is highly misleading, as we’re not obligated to endure someone’s arrogance purely because we share the same blood.

“AITA for not telling my cousin my fiancé works at the same office as her husband?” – this online user turned to one of Reddit’s well-liked communities to, perhaps, seek advice and find out whether she’s indeed a jerk of the situation. The post has managed to receive nearly 25K upvotes and 1.5K worth of comments in just a few days time.
Woman wonders whether she’s indeed a jerk for not telling her cousin that her fiancé works at the same office as her husband

The woman has started off by sharing that the post will be her first and only one and that it’s quite light-hearted compared to the stories that often appear on this subreddit; she thought that these kind of things only happen in movies – however, since it did happen to her, she wanted to hear some unbiased opinions.

She has a cousin named “Kat” who got married to “Henry” fairly recently. The women were never close; Kat is pretty spoilt and would always be mean to people. They don’t keep in touch – however, they do see each other at family gatherings.
Concerning the author, she is engaged to “Chris”, who is a software engineer and a co-head of his department. Not that long ago, Chris told the OP about their work’s newest addition where one of the employees sounded pretty familiar and – surprise, surprise – it turned out to be Kat’s husband; though, what’s important is that, at that point, the men hadn’t met face to face yet.

The author then mentioned that Kat and Henry had a huge wedding; she said it was really nice but she ruined the experience by constantly bragging about it. Once, it all died down, the cousin turned her attention over to how “wealthy” her husband is.
The OP recently attended one of her aunts’ 50th birthday party together with her fiancé. Kat and Henry were also there, and when they were chatting, they kept divulging how well-paying and fantastic the man’s new job is.

Later on Kat wondered about Chris’ job; the author said that he’s an engineer just like Henry, though she intentionally left out all the specific details. The cousin smiled, nodded, then said that she understands that the OP is embarrassed and wants to keep it quiet.
When the couple was getting ready to leave, Kat pulled the author aside and told her to let her know if the future spouses need help with their wedding. Naturally, the woman decided not to fuel Kat’s arrogance, so she said her goodbyes and left.
However, a couple of days later, she received a furious DM from Kat who slammed the woman for not revealing that Chris was actually one of Henry’s bosses. Turns out, when the men stumbled upon each other at the office, Chris made a cheeky comment asking Henry to inform Kat that they don’t need any help with the wedding.

Naturally, both of them were incredibly embarrassed, but Kat couldn’t help herself and blamed the OP for making them look bad on purpose as, apparently, it was the author’s “duty” to tell her and Henry about her soon-to-be husband’s position.
What do you think about this situation? Did the OP handle it correctly?

Share on FacebookNot only is OP NTA, but classy as well. Both she and her fiance (husband yet?) had the chance to say something & humiliate them publicly multiple times, but chose not to even say anything at all, let alone publicly. Kat dug her own grave and nobody else would've known if she hadn't told everyone else about it.
Yeah, I don't understand how somebody choosing discretion over bragging can possibly be called an a*****e.

People and their "penis" measuring, doesn't matter men or women. Just live your life your way and quit measuring against other folks. Seriously what the eff is going to come of that?
I think the people whose opinions matter will think what the OP did was funny. And if Kat hadn't broadcast her humiliation later, almost nobody would have known.
"she said that we made them look bad on purpose and if she knew, she'd have never made those comments." THIS is why we should never make assumptions. And trust me, you are making yourself the a*s- not so much the others in those situations, just you. Clearly a case of OP is NTA.
How exactly did you "make them look bad"? Did other people find out? Either way, NTA.
LMAO...the gold-digger cousin should've kept her trap shut...she played herself!
To "tlf555" up there - No one said Chris told Henry they didn't need their help in front of everyone at work; it was possibly in one of their offices or a corner. Maybe Henry never said anything but he also never stopped Kat from bragging.
So the OP is doubting herself because she took the high road? It's just sad how these stuck-up entitled people often get their way just by bullying. 🤦🏻♀️ NTA all the way. Kat should be grateful OP didn't decide to shame her in front of everyone. And kuddos to the husband who got OP's back 👌🏻😄
If she Henry didn't know that Chris was his boss, why should Chris know that Henry is his employee? Goes both ways doesn't it. NTA at all....handled with aplomb and humour....Your fiancee was right to thank Henry for the offer of financial assistance(but not at the office) as Henry can get a grip and tell his wife to stop being such an AH
The only a^^^^le here is your cousin. Karma came for her big time. Anyone in your family who defends her is just as bad as her.
It's tacky af to brag about your money, it's pathetic and tacky when it's not even your money.
It does seem odd to me that Chris wouldn't just ask at the party, Are you Henry so-and-so, I think we work at the same office in different departments; and then have a friendly conversation, like normal people.
You would need to have some information, in this case one couple had no idea what the other does for living because they went in bragging and never asked. Bad family function if you discuss money, and work and People from work. Also assumption that Chris has any idea who Henry is? - he is a manager in different department. Henry is just an employee working under another department manager. Company I work for has 10000 staff daily. I maybe know 20 of my team and work area. Have not met my manager yet.
Load More Replies...From what I read (this is my opinion), the OP and Kat seem like they've never gotten along with each other. If Chris is a head of the department, they have enough money to pay for their wedding, should they even choose to do one. I shouldn't be surprised that you're siding with the bītch that is Kat. OP also had no "duty" to tell Kat that Chris is Henry's boss, especially with her (Kat's) attitude.
