When Catana's bearded boyfriend secretly uploaded her funny comics online, it quickly became an online sensation. The Saratoga Springs-based artist, however, didn't get drunk on her overnight fame and continues illustrating the adorable and funny moments of everyday life in a long-term relationship.
"The cartoon drawings were never intended to be published online, but thanks to John, they were!" Catana wrote. "I was prepared to be embarrassed and torn apart (the internet is a scary place, you know), but to my surprise, the comic strips took off. Completely unprepared, without a website or social media, or even a name for the webcomics, we got to work and started to create what we know as Catana Comics today."
"Thanks to John's suggestion, his magical ability to create websites in a few hours, and his inspiring daily antics, I am now able to fulfill my childhood dream of becoming a cartoonist while juggling the responsibilities of being an obsessive dog mom." Hmm .. this whole comics thing really enlightened me. From the beginning I wondered how on earth did this become so popular, there is page on FB with immense number of followers too. I just did not get it. But when I read comments I realised that most of the positive ones (negative are just deleted or minused) are that people see themselves in the Creepy girl or the Beardhead. It does not matter that the "art" style consists of round heads with giant eyes with microscopic pupils and the whole thing is essence of neediness and creepiness with mostly banal points. The important thing is that people can relate to that, which is a bit disturbing, but that is probably the reason of success. The art need not to be nice, original or interesting. It must be something that people know and like.
These comics are one of the cutest I’ve seen! And the ‘art style’ you were talking about is unique to everyone. Anyway, the point of these comic strips aren’t there to be aesthetically pleasing, but in fact to share what living with her bf (or as she says ‘bfbfbf’ 😂) would be like. I personally like it because they are humorous, and some hit close to home!
