Couple Returns Home From Vacation, And Finds Unexpected Guest Inside

When Barry Peterson and his wife returned home from the holiday, they found an unexpected intruder in their house. “It’s kind of an odd request,” the wife from Shorewood, Minnesota, told 911 emergency services over the phone. “I don’t know if I should call you or what… but we just came home from being gone – and a wild turkey flew through our front window and is now in our house.”

They started filming the uninvited guest, but the wild bird couldn’t care less. He stayed in his comfortable spot on the couch and pretended he didn’t realize it was time to vacate his weekend home. Even the arrival of the police didn’t make the turkey change his mind – it was obvious this wild bird was looking for trouble.

“A Shorewood resident came home to find a broken out window to their residence. Shortly after they located an unusual guest lounging on their sofa,” South Lake Minnetonka Police Department wrote on Facebook. “He identified himself as Tom.”

Police reported the situation was managed well. “Tom later left the home on his own and found a better spot in an oak tree,” the officers wrote. “The wild turkey was not injured.”

The couple added: “It was a very interesting experience!”

Lots more interesting encounters to come, as wildlife move into urban environments. I've seen three coywolves in the last few years; one of them in my back yard, down in the draw. Foxes, deer, hawks, and owls, all over the subdivision, many out in the open. Its the latest thing as wildlife begin taking over again. 👍

Glad to her it! They need somewhere to live as humans have crowded them out of their natural habitats. Hope the neighbours and wildlife continue to peacefully co-exist and respect each other.

I expected this to end with a thanksgiving-like scenery, with the cops and the homeowener around the table and the prepared bird in the middle...glad it ended well for all participants, though. ;)

I really feel that the police workforce was put to good use in this case. Good job!

This story leaves me a tiny bit confused, maybe because I am not from the states? Are you obliged to call the police in such a case? I mean, I wouldn't think of it - if the bird looks healthy I would just gently help him/her find the way out...

May be they call because house was insured on cases like this? I actually wonder too, by reason of chiken call to police =))))

Loved it! A few evenings ago I was reading upstairs and heard some unusual rattling of cat dishes downstairs. As it was dark outside and downstairs I made my way cautiously one step at a time. Halfway down I saw a 'black kitty with white stripes' in my kitchen!!! - A skunk chowing down the cats' leftovers! 'Flower' (or 'Pepe') paid absolutely no attention to me. The only option was to 'wait it out'. When the little guy started to investigate a little further I crept down the rest of the way and opened wide the door at the bottom of the stairs. About a minute later my visitor nonchalantly waddled out onto the veranda. Will remember to keep the kitchen door closely tightly in future as I'm sure my little friend will be back to check out the 'smorgasbord'. :)

So many police for a wild turkey, and they were taking photos! That would be so cool to experience (in my opinion).

I'm sure if the police did not help them, the family could've called Jack Daniels and his partner Jim Beam . I'm sure they would've taken good care of the Wild Turkey

Hit a huge low-flying one. Did $5,000 damage to our SUV. Dad didn't ask if we were okay--but "did you keep it?". Maine.
