Belgian woman, Suzanne Hoylaerts aged 90, dies of #Covid_19 after refusing a respirator, telling her doctors "Save it for the youngest [who need it most], I've already had a beautiful life." Not all #Heroes wear capes !
He came out of retirement to help with this epidemic. This man is a legend in Italy as he helped with the first heart transplant
While you’re quarantined and working from home, your community still needs some help. Bored Panda contacted Marlena Hartz, the director of communications at the nonprofit organization GlobalGiving. She told us that, fortunately, people are happy helping others during the crisis. “Our data shows that giving continues to be strong right now, and people are responding generously to help those in need.” GlobalGiving runs a Coronavirus Relief Fund that has already raised more than $1 million.
But Marlena warns that “many nonprofits in our communities are struggling to survive in the time of the coronavirus, with lost revenue from fundraising events, sudden technology needs, and an increase in demand for help from people who need food, access to health care, and more.” Thus it’s very important to raise your voice for those in need on social media. If you have the means, consider making a donation to the nonprofit of your choice.
Marlena finds it inspiring to see an outpouring of support on social media for stopping Covid-19. “People are so creative. From this hand-washing parody to celebrity giving challenges, we're continually surprised and overjoyed by the ingenuity and kindness of these good people in the midst of this global crisis.”
And some people are making heartwarming donations without having much themselves. Marlena recounted the moment when Jacqueline, a nonprofit founder herself, made a generous gift to Coronavirus Relief Fund. “She said she does not ‘know what tomorrow holds’ for her nonprofit, but 'she told us that she gives not because she has much, but because she understands what it means to have nothing.'”
A man in Morristown, NJ standing outside the emergency room with this sign. Remember to say thank you to those on the front lines!
Yes thankyou so much to all of you for the work you do during this difficult time.
Black Button, will remember this name next time I'm able to make a liquor store run lol!
This guy, who runs a local distillery, retooled his whole operation to go from producing bourbon to making hand sanitizer—-in 8 days—-yet big business is crying about how long it will take and how much of their vast resources they’ll need to give up to cover the costs to retool their ginormous factories to make ventilators and PPE for the recent spike in demand from hospitals across the country, which will undoubtedly not be the last such increase in need. Kudos to this guy. Shame on big business.
Because retooling ginormous factories to make ventilators is harder than adding gel to your alcohol and put it in plastic bottles. Just a change in recipe. Not saying this guy is worse than the guy who hoarded 17,000 bottles of hand sanitizer, but he definitely couldn't make respirators in a week either.
Load More Replies...Yeah, one of our alcohol distilleries did that, too. Then the control came and banned them from doing more. And, they're lucky they didn't get a fine because they "didn't have permission". C**P.
Overzealous bureaucrats can be absolutely detrimental to what the rest of us call common sense.
Load More Replies...We have two distillery's in Washington that are doing the same thing and one of them is giving the sanitizer away free
Here in Sweden the company that is producing alcohol is also doing the same starting with Absolut Vodka! So so good of them to change their production line!
Good of them, BUT ... I am absolutely terrified by the overconfidence on mathematical modeling the political establishment is displaying. Every day that goes by, I am hoping for someone to realize why all the idiots are driving on the wrong side of the motorway, that it is only one country left going in the wrong direction. Sweden is neither testing nor isolating, leaving it up to individuals to decide for themselves. Does Sweden really put the cost of testing before the life of its citizens?
Load More Replies...I got to be the 1K point!! GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY and all of the hard work and ingenuity it took to make that happen. Blessings all around! I don't know what your family practices, but my husband always tells me when we scrape the bottom of the barrel for another family, "Jesus, will repay us. ".... and he always does. #onlysmallonins
MAYBE YOU COULD STILL MAKE BOURBON JUST FOR YOURSELVES??😊 KUDOS ON THE HAND✋SANITIZER~ YOU ARE GR8 PEOPLE!
Imagine the conversation, after the critical need passes... "What vintage is your hand sanitizer?"
What a blessing you were given you went from bottling a product which was not needed to one which is needed now great job!
Hand sanitizer is a better use of your time & talents. Sorry bourbon lovers....
That's awesome! Our local distiller is doing that too. Also the local cannabis shop (apparently alcohol is used in processing the pot - who knew?). And our local plastics company, which normally makes vending-machine fronts, is donating a bunch of plastic for face masks.
thank you so much for doing what you are and hopefully many more will help...what a bunch of great people!!!
Restoring my Faith in Humanity! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!🙏🏽🔆💝
And the USPS charged you for the privilege of delivering your much-needed supplies to the Critical Infrastructure?
Some of the distilleries in Australia are doing this too. We can't make our own ventilators in preparation because many companies stopped manufacturing here, in favour of cheap Chinese labour. Big mistake. We've had to send a lot of faulty medical equipment back; and to make it worse, before they told the world what was happening, they told their people over here to send over shiploads of our medical equipment, including masks, gowns, PPE, gloves, sanitiser, pain medication, and even baby formula...we now do not have enough of those things for ourselves.
Yeah, I have read that China bought up all the medical equipment before telling the world what's coming. Now they are saying we are not grateful enough - while selling back our own equipment for a fat profit.
Load More Replies...and now the irs is going after these companies for 14,000 dollars each
they should distribute it in bourbon bottles, with apropriate colour too.
What a wonderful thing to do, for all the workers out there! What a jump though, from Bourbon to Hand Sanitizer, or maybe it isn't.. either way, Ladies and Gentlemen, Congratulations, on a job well done!!
Another way to help is supporting your local businesses. Find out if you are able to make a purchase online, which is a caring gesture amid these trying times. Many bars and restaurants have also been forced to shut down for quarantine. Consider buying gift cards for your friends and family.
San Antonio restaurant owner Steve McHugh explained that “gift cards are like interest-free loans.” The income from gift card purchases is seed money for many eateries that may help get them up and running after the crisis is over.
In the end, it all comes down to simple things—sharing food and other supplies with your neighbors or checking on how everyone is doing with a quick call. There is so much we could all do without setting foot outside our homes.
I was driving out from Costco and I saw the homeless man who stands on the corner there asking for work to earn money. I rolled down my window and I told him to come over. He came up, I reached in my pocket and handed him a $50 bill. He started saying "thank you" but gasped halfway through. He said "Are you sure?!" I said "Absolutely...you need to take care of yourself too." Through a shaky voice he said "Bless you ma'am!" I said "You stay safe" and I pulled up to the stoplight and looked in the side mirror as he returned to his corner. He then folded his sign and turned away from the line of cars behind me and I could see he was crying. Remember that there are people out there with no place to go and no resources. Help where you can!
We're quarantined but this was the most beautiful thing I saw today, and it deserves to be shared
This doesn't surprise me. The Nepalese people are very generous and welcoming. If I had to be stuck somewhere, Nepal would be a pretty good place!
After 11 hospital days and losing 12kg, my 78yr old dad is home and recovered from Covid in Madrid!
Our neighbour doesn't have Wi-Fi, so we talked her through joining ours. Once on she received 70 messages from her children living overseas
A lot of us don't realize how important internet access is. The other day, bad storms blew through my town and knocked out not only my power but also my Internet service. Power was restored in a few hours, but I had to summon a technician to restore my Internet connection. Normally, I would go to the nearby library - walking distance, yay - and use their service; but thanks to COVID-19 they were closed so I had to mooch off a nearby McDonald's. I did buy some coffee there, though.
Man feeding neighbor's dog.
Update: this photo was taken before coronavirus outbreak

My Great-Uncle visits his wife every day. She's in an Assisted Living facility as she has Alzheimer's, so he can't go in right now for safety reasons. That doesn't stop him from showing his endearing love
Gas station helping elderly
This is a really good idea and it will be around even after this is over.
I bought a bunch of masks and then discovered I had leftover from when I was caring for my mother in law. So I donated what I bought to the local EMT's. They said they had enough..but then said that the Sheriff's department had been running low on gloves and masks. Don't forget about first responders. Crimes still happen during a lockdown and they have no choice but to run into the fire sometimes.
I (27m) mentioned that I am out of work and my elderly neighbor left this on my doorstep
Bosnia and Herzegovina. More discipline than 1st world countries
Not that we mind being called Serbia, but that is a picture of my city of Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The picture was posted by our mayor to thank people for working with the city to contain the virus. We are actually doing good, people follow the rules a lot, not many are sick and people who lost their jobs or need help are being taken care of. Our government is, for once, doing a really good job.

I Swedish company is borrowing our once again bankrupt factory to make free disinfecting for the nursinghome and stores. set up in 2 days and produced 800l at it and can now produce atleast 10k liter if needed. They are mainly using saltwater from what my dad told me and since we are in a fjord we will not be run out of that. Stay safe folks!
I cant share a photo because it's a sound. But on the 26th of March the whole of the UK stood outside at 8pm and clapped the NHS workers who are ABSOLUTE BOSSES every day and it was MAGICAL. You could hear the cheering and clapping ringing out in the air. Our NHS means the world to us, we hope there is change and its looked after better because of this x x x
Yes!!! Now every Thursday at 8pm until this is over. #clapforcarers

I have been right on edge with the tears, so close, so sad, the PTSD is horrible on top of "virus" world, reading stories like this is peaceful and gives hope.
I think i may have PTSD, and all this s**t makes me so anxious

If we take of each other and ourselves we will get through this. Take care of yourself, your family, and the people you come across and I will be praying for you.
My neighbours are really really old, and are in serious danger of this. Their kids have died, and one of them has cancer. The whole street (without realising the rest are doing it) has been dropping toilet paper, food, and notes on their doorstep. We all only realised that we were all doing it when one day they hadn’t picked it up yet. Now we have organised.
This was not the article to read this week 😭 stupid hormonal emotions!
People are sewing masks and donating them to hospitals , some of them also donated fabric, sewing machines, etc. Restaurants are making free food for people in need ( and for doctors and nurses). Volunteers buy groceries for people in quarantine. Maybe you're not a doctor. But you can still do something to help.
I've seen a bunch of YouTubers designing and making their own masks and most of them are have been agreed upon by doctors and nurses... I may try to make some.

I really like some of the landlord understand the situations and not act like they don't give a f**k. That doctor in Wuhan with that patient in bed watching the sun that really heartbreaking, and the customer left $2500 tips, and some of the people are helping people in needs are truly amazing.
After thoroughly disinfecting the jars, packing materials, and outside of the package with a bleach/detergent combo I mailed several jars of my home-made CBD balm to my 95 y.o. friend (and landlord since 1982) in his board and care home. When he asked how much he should pay, I said, "You've already paid me by being my friend."
This is how we should all be treating our neighbors and others. I hope it continues even after this mess is over.
wow <3!! My family is donating fabric to a church group so that they can make masks to donate to hospitals.
Such a sweet thing to come across after I woke up this morning crying at our loved ones that we all have lost. Thank you.
Imagine a world where world news and media organisation covered good news... we wouldn't be as stressed out and angry as we are now... we would be happy and optimistic as most of us are trying to be at the moment.
You touched my heart so deeply reading about everyone being so kind all over the world. Bless and love you!
All these stories just made me want to cry. Why can't we have a segment on mainstream news channels showing these everyday heroes on a regular basis? It will uplift, inspire and encourage people to do better. Instead we are always bombarded with coverage of certain politicians who seem to thrive on fostering division and hatred. I'm just tired of it all.
Thank you so, so much for sharing this... This period is probably hard on everyone and even harder for some. I was getting quite depressed of seeing posts of how bad the worst of us can be. Thanks for sharing how good the best of us can be <3
nope. unfortunately, people can be horrible even if they perform a good action. They can still make terrible decisions.
The best way to break a bad habit is to start a good habit; to replace the bad one. Not everyone who does good deeds is a good person, but it is a step in the right direction. Some people just need a wake up call to stop being selfish and to start thinking of others. For a lot of people, this pandemic is their wake up call. I didn't really think about how infrequently I check on my neighbors until I started actively distancing myself from people because of the virus. How is old Bob, down the street? I don't know; I haven't seen him since Christmas. I should be a better neighbor and check on Bob sometimes. Obviously, I shouldn't go visit Bob right now; but, I could leave him a card with my number to let him know I care about him.
