Belgian woman, Suzanne Hoylaerts aged 90, dies of #Covid_19 after refusing a respirator, telling her doctors "Save it for the youngest [who need it most], I've already had a beautiful life." Not all #Heroes wear capes !
He came out of retirement to help with this epidemic. This man is a legend in Italy as he helped with the first heart transplant
While you’re quarantined and working from home, your community still needs some help. Bored Panda contacted Marlena Hartz, the director of communications at the nonprofit organization GlobalGiving. She told us that, fortunately, people are happy helping others during the crisis. “Our data shows that giving continues to be strong right now, and people are responding generously to help those in need.” GlobalGiving runs a Coronavirus Relief Fund that has already raised more than $1 million.
But Marlena warns that “many nonprofits in our communities are struggling to survive in the time of the coronavirus, with lost revenue from fundraising events, sudden technology needs, and an increase in demand for help from people who need food, access to health care, and more.” Thus it’s very important to raise your voice for those in need on social media. If you have the means, consider making a donation to the nonprofit of your choice.
Marlena finds it inspiring to see an outpouring of support on social media for stopping Covid-19. “People are so creative. From this hand-washing parody to celebrity giving challenges, we're continually surprised and overjoyed by the ingenuity and kindness of these good people in the midst of this global crisis.”
And some people are making heartwarming donations without having much themselves. Marlena recounted the moment when Jacqueline, a nonprofit founder herself, made a generous gift to Coronavirus Relief Fund. “She said she does not ‘know what tomorrow holds’ for her nonprofit, but 'she told us that she gives not because she has much, but because she understands what it means to have nothing.'”
A man in Morristown, NJ standing outside the emergency room with this sign. Remember to say thank you to those on the front lines!
Yes thankyou so much to all of you for the work you do during this difficult time.
Another way to help is supporting your local businesses. Find out if you are able to make a purchase online, which is a caring gesture amid these trying times. Many bars and restaurants have also been forced to shut down for quarantine. Consider buying gift cards for your friends and family.
San Antonio restaurant owner Steve McHugh explained that “gift cards are like interest-free loans.” The income from gift card purchases is seed money for many eateries that may help get them up and running after the crisis is over.
In the end, it all comes down to simple things—sharing food and other supplies with your neighbors or checking on how everyone is doing with a quick call. There is so much we could all do without setting foot outside our homes.
I was driving out from Costco and I saw the homeless man who stands on the corner there asking for work to earn money. I rolled down my window and I told him to come over. He came up, I reached in my pocket and handed him a $50 bill. He started saying "thank you" but gasped halfway through. He said "Are you sure?!" I said "Absolutely...you need to take care of yourself too." Through a shaky voice he said "Bless you ma'am!" I said "You stay safe" and I pulled up to the stoplight and looked in the side mirror as he returned to his corner. He then folded his sign and turned away from the line of cars behind me and I could see he was crying. Remember that there are people out there with no place to go and no resources. Help where you can!
We're quarantined but this was the most beautiful thing I saw today, and it deserves to be shared
Whilst I agree with you, Wonky eye Bezos doesn't care. All he cares about is how to maintain his 'richest man in the world status'. To him, employees are expendable. Bezos may have loads of money, but he has negative empathy.
Load More Replies...The Texas Roadhouse CEO proves that not all CEOs are greedy fat cats out to shaft their workers. Some of them actually have hearts and souls.
And that is a restaurant I will proudly eat at once this thing is over
I'm just amazed that a CEO of a chain of restaurants, this large, only has a 6 figure salary. Even if it's in the high 6 figures, which I'm sure it is, that's surprising and the way wealthy people should behave. My husband works for a large hospital chain, the CEO gave himself a "raise" of 6 million last year. And the doctors, nurses, EVS personnel aren't getting so much as an extra dime to keep going into this warzone. Thank you Advocate Aurora.
This is humanity. What we are celebrating here is a tiny, tiny minority.
Load More Replies...Maybe because the bosses' pay has skyrocketed during the last thirty years, whereas the salaries of the people who work for them have remained at the same purchasing level, or even less.
Load More Replies...I know where I'm looking for my next job. Dining rooms in Nashville were shut down on the 20th, Friday. By the next Tues, just 5 days, the CFRA franchise that owns most of the IHOPS in middle Tennessee sold them all back to the parent company, who then shut down all of the stores permanently, except for one. So, now, not only are we out of work, but we have no job to return to,in what is going to be a very difficult time to find a new one
I feel you. I work (well, worked) in hospitality too. The company I worked for cancelled my last shift, then closed their doors 2 days before the government told them they had to. In Australia, if a company had to close because of this situation, they can register with the tax office and the employees can receive 6 months of $1500 every 2 weeks...my employer chose not to register as there is nothing in it for them, only the staff.

This gives me so much hope for humanity - kudos to you Mr Texas Roadhouse <3
cannot be more grateful and I want to know what the Trump family is donating and how about the Clintons?
If only other CEOs would take a leaf out of his book. We don't get Texas Roadhouse in the UK but definitely a company I would take my business too if we did!
They have been feeding a lot of the truck drivers some of the fast food places refused to feed them.
Meanwhile the richest man in the world is denying his frontline workers sick pay and adequate protective equipment and disinfectant.
I can not speak for any one but myself but I for one will be sure to look up the nearest Texas Roadhouse as soon as things go back to normal.
Too bad more CEO's (ie: RICH PEOPLE) don't do that .. so tired of people being greedy .. Awesome guy!!
My neighbor tends bar at TR. She started as an expediter and rose through the ranks. She's always been out and when her manager found out she was engaged, he said, "I got the okay to comp some dinners for your reception, but however many people you have, I will cover the rest personally. You and your bride-to-be are family."
Finally a CEO that did the right thing with the high pay he's getting! Good person!
I hope it will still be in operation when I can come to TX with no restrictions
This is an incredible example of an individual who has their priorities straight. Minimum-wage and lower income workers are often one missed paycheque away from eviction or starvation. Those earning a six-figure salary are not. What a wonderful example this individual has set for the upper class everywhere. If only there were more people like this out there.
When this sh!t is over and we're done quarantining, EVERYONE who has up-voted this post needs to seek out and go to a Texas Roadhouse for a meal.
Can't say I've been there, but cinnamon butter sounds really good right now.
Our favorite steakhouse, and now our favorite restaurant of all of them!!! And the CEO is the king of hearts!!
Texas Roadhouse is my favorite place to eat. CEO must be a wonderful man.
Now THIS is how you do it. You know this guy has more than enough already—-not because he’s some kind of business genius, but because of the hard work and dedication of his employees—-and that he damn well knows it too. That kind of self-awareness (as opposed to the self-delusion that most CEOs, especially if they end up becoming president through the hacking efforts of an enemy, suffer from...) restores some semblance of humanity to business. In other words, it is possible to enjoy many of the fruits of capitalism yet still retain your empathy, compassion, kind-heartedness, and generosity, instead of becoming the kind of greedy, heartless, hedonistic douchebag that predatory capitalists tend to be.
These r the company that need and earn our respect. The Greens who own hobby lobby and are worth 6.4 billion closed some of their stores, furlode there staff, and the next day fired them. Please share so our nation can tell the Greens loud and clear, ur actions will have consequences and God hangs his head in shame over ur actions
The restaurant franchisee I work for laid everyone off except the managers, 30+ people in one location alone. My husband is disabled so mine was the only income.
This doesn't surprise me. The Nepalese people are very generous and welcoming. If I had to be stuck somewhere, Nepal would be a pretty good place!
After 11 hospital days and losing 12kg, my 78yr old dad is home and recovered from Covid in Madrid!
Our neighbour doesn't have Wi-Fi, so we talked her through joining ours. Once on she received 70 messages from her children living overseas
A lot of us don't realize how important internet access is. The other day, bad storms blew through my town and knocked out not only my power but also my Internet service. Power was restored in a few hours, but I had to summon a technician to restore my Internet connection. Normally, I would go to the nearby library - walking distance, yay - and use their service; but thanks to COVID-19 they were closed so I had to mooch off a nearby McDonald's. I did buy some coffee there, though.

My Great-Uncle visits his wife every day. She's in an Assisted Living facility as she has Alzheimer's, so he can't go in right now for safety reasons. That doesn't stop him from showing his endearing love
Gas station helping elderly
This is a really good idea and it will be around even after this is over.
I bought a bunch of masks and then discovered I had leftover from when I was caring for my mother in law. So I donated what I bought to the local EMT's. They said they had enough..but then said that the Sheriff's department had been running low on gloves and masks. Don't forget about first responders. Crimes still happen during a lockdown and they have no choice but to run into the fire sometimes.
I (27m) mentioned that I am out of work and my elderly neighbor left this on my doorstep
Bosnia and Herzegovina. More discipline than 1st world countries
Not that we mind being called Serbia, but that is a picture of my city of Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The picture was posted by our mayor to thank people for working with the city to contain the virus. We are actually doing good, people follow the rules a lot, not many are sick and people who lost their jobs or need help are being taken care of. Our government is, for once, doing a really good job.

I Swedish company is borrowing our once again bankrupt factory to make free disinfecting for the nursinghome and stores. set up in 2 days and produced 800l at it and can now produce atleast 10k liter if needed. They are mainly using saltwater from what my dad told me and since we are in a fjord we will not be run out of that. Stay safe folks!
I cant share a photo because it's a sound. But on the 26th of March the whole of the UK stood outside at 8pm and clapped the NHS workers who are ABSOLUTE BOSSES every day and it was MAGICAL. You could hear the cheering and clapping ringing out in the air. Our NHS means the world to us, we hope there is change and its looked after better because of this x x x
Yes!!! Now every Thursday at 8pm until this is over. #clapforcarers

My neighbours are really really old, and are in serious danger of this. Their kids have died, and one of them has cancer. The whole street (without realising the rest are doing it) has been dropping toilet paper, food, and notes on their doorstep. We all only realised that we were all doing it when one day they hadn’t picked it up yet. Now we have organised.
This was not the article to read this week 😭 stupid hormonal emotions!
People are sewing masks and donating them to hospitals , some of them also donated fabric, sewing machines, etc. Restaurants are making free food for people in need ( and for doctors and nurses). Volunteers buy groceries for people in quarantine. Maybe you're not a doctor. But you can still do something to help.
I've seen a bunch of YouTubers designing and making their own masks and most of them are have been agreed upon by doctors and nurses... I may try to make some.

I really like some of the landlord understand the situations and not act like they don't give a f**k. That doctor in Wuhan with that patient in bed watching the sun that really heartbreaking, and the customer left $2500 tips, and some of the people are helping people in needs are truly amazing.
After thoroughly disinfecting the jars, packing materials, and outside of the package with a bleach/detergent combo I mailed several jars of my home-made CBD balm to my 95 y.o. friend (and landlord since 1982) in his board and care home. When he asked how much he should pay, I said, "You've already paid me by being my friend."
This is how we should all be treating our neighbors and others. I hope it continues even after this mess is over.
wow <3!! My family is donating fabric to a church group so that they can make masks to donate to hospitals.
Such a sweet thing to come across after I woke up this morning crying at our loved ones that we all have lost. Thank you.
Imagine a world where world news and media organisation covered good news... we wouldn't be as stressed out and angry as we are now... we would be happy and optimistic as most of us are trying to be at the moment.
You touched my heart so deeply reading about everyone being so kind all over the world. Bless and love you!
All these stories just made me want to cry. Why can't we have a segment on mainstream news channels showing these everyday heroes on a regular basis? It will uplift, inspire and encourage people to do better. Instead we are always bombarded with coverage of certain politicians who seem to thrive on fostering division and hatred. I'm just tired of it all.
Thank you so, so much for sharing this... This period is probably hard on everyone and even harder for some. I was getting quite depressed of seeing posts of how bad the worst of us can be. Thanks for sharing how good the best of us can be <3
nope. unfortunately, people can be horrible even if they perform a good action. They can still make terrible decisions.
The best way to break a bad habit is to start a good habit; to replace the bad one. Not everyone who does good deeds is a good person, but it is a step in the right direction. Some people just need a wake up call to stop being selfish and to start thinking of others. For a lot of people, this pandemic is their wake up call. I didn't really think about how infrequently I check on my neighbors until I started actively distancing myself from people because of the virus. How is old Bob, down the street? I don't know; I haven't seen him since Christmas. I should be a better neighbor and check on Bob sometimes. Obviously, I shouldn't go visit Bob right now; but, I could leave him a card with my number to let him know I care about him.
