The coronavirus pandemic is still working its way around the world but loads of countries are loosening lockdown regulations, so we’re stuck in a weird and confusing situation (we blame 2020). In times like these, a dose of good humor is great for recharging your batteries—laughter helps us see the positives in tough situations like the one we’re in now.

We want to keep your spirits up and to boost your mood this week, so Bored Panda has collected the freshest and funniest coronavirus jokes. Scroll down, upvote your faves, and let us know in the comments which jokes you loved the most and why. We’re huge fans of the corona jokes that people made during the quarantine, so be sure to check our previous posts here, here, and here. Now that’s a lot of jokes!

There are 3 camps of people when you ask whether it’s okay to make coronavirus jokes. There are those who think that comedy is incredibly important during difficult times. There are those who think that we shouldn’t joke about sensitive topics. Lastly, there are those in the middle who believe that humor has a place during the pandemic but that we shouldn’t overstep our bounds. But what do comedy professionals and experts have to say about this? Scroll down for Bored Panda's interview with comedy writer and comedian Ariane Sherine.

Just in case anyone is struggling - masks, social distancing, hand washing etc "work" by reducing risk. None of them is a 100% guarantee of protection/prevention. Instead they lower the chance of the virus spreading (the effectiveness of each individual measure varies). Stacking lots of these things on top of each other creates a greater reduction in risk than just using one of them. The more people taking precautions the lower the risk for everyone.

Most people who don't wear masks are aware that Covid is less of a threat as the average flu strain. 35 million people died of the flu last year alone--and that wasn't one of the nastier years. Yes, I know the MSM doesn't talk about that, or about how most people infected with Covid have fewer and less severe symptoms than those who catch the flu. Our friend and her family were all infected: none suffered any symptoms at all, even though she is 60 and has a severe heart problem. When you believe everything the MSM feeds you, you're dining on lies, half-truths and misinformation. Max, you are a fool.

If information that was not shared earlier, in hopes to avoid mass panic, had been released along with recommendation to wear mask, would we have seen as many refusals to comply? And after the repeated blase responses from the president and the blatant disregard for the mask wearing guidelines that have become about the only visible emblem for this invisible invader, would we have seen so many blindly demanding their rights, u m rights of anyone's but the ITV. The White House has never issued a statement that requires masks be enforced. No statewide, countywide, citywide policy re: masks has been issued. The mask as the rebel flag, the flag of surrender, every flag created to represent pro or anti movements, every flag that has ever been waved in blatant opposition to an opposing side. And it may or may not make any difference at all dealing with this latest invader to violate the most basic right of all, life

Did you know that prolonged social distancing and mask wearing (not to mention isolation) have been scientifically proven to weaken immune systems? The governments imposing these rules for a virus less dangerous than the flu (35 MILLION died of the flu last year versus barely half a million Covid deaths halfway through the year; how's your math?) is causing more harm in the long run than it is preventing. The WHO refuses to acknowledge this because they'd have to admit that they were wrong, and the United Nations is as incapable of doing that as any career politician is.

Actually, that analogy is pretty flawed. Seat belts are preventative measures, while airbags are last resorts in an emergency (I mean, they activate in a crash). So a better analogy would be that masks, distancing, etc. is collectively the seat belt, while airbags are probably more like medicine, for, you know, when you're already sick

Honestly not that great of an analogy... Seat belts are preventative, airbags are a last resort for when things really do go wrong. So technically you can consider masks / distancing etc. to be like a seat belt, and the airbag would be medicine for when you're already sick and about to die. So, not that great an analogy after all 🤷🏻‍♀️

Isn't it ironic that you spread panic over Covid when far more people this year have died from the flu worldwide? And some of them required hospitalization but couldn't be admitted because the virtually empty hospitals are directed to admit ONLY Covid patients.

"I think it’s essential to joke about coronavirus because humor is a release mechanism to help us cope during dark times," Ariane told Bored Panda.

"Shared humor also helps us bond with one another. Lockdown would be very gloomy indeed if we couldn’t laugh about our predicament!" she added.

Ariane also told us that her go-to funny movie during the lockdown is 13 Going on 30 (released in 2004 and starring Jennifer Garner). "It’s really heartwarming and the Thriller scene is hilarious. It always lifts my spirits when I’m feeling low," the comedy writer said.

Meanwhile, according to Dr. Peter McGraw who heads the University of Colorado Boulder’s Humor Research Lab, if we’re constantly plugged into the newsfeed and frantically search for the latest breaking news about the virus, this just increases the scariness of the pandemic.

“A bit of comedy—whether it be through your Instagram feed, through a Netflix comedy special, or calling up your friend who's pretty good at making jokes in the face of tragedy—is not only a good way to distract yourself from what's going on, but it's also a good way to delight yourself,” Dr. McGraw said. So we shouldn’t feel guilty for laughing. After all, the alternative is to be in a constant state of low-key panic. And that’s not helping anybody: not your family, not your friends, and least of all you.

McGraw stressed that social media “is a mess” during the lockdown, so it’s best to unplug and unwind. Preferably, with a bunch of funny movies, comedy stand-up shows, and books that make you chuckle. “Take a little bit of a break. You certainly deserve it."
