They help store information longer. "Images are the simplest and the most effective way to make sure that the information gets stored as long-term memory. As per Dr. Lynell Burmark, an education consultant, our short term memory processes words and can only retain about seven bits of information. Whereas, images are directly processed by our long-term memory, where they get indelibly etched."
They make communication quicker and simpler. "Information listed in bullets is no doubt simpler to process. But, that same information in the form of an image or a video is processed even more quickly."
As per the Visual Teaching Alliance:
- Of all the information transmitted to the brain, 90% is visual;
- As opposed to text, visuals are processed 60,000x faster;
- Humans are capable of getting the sense of a visual scene in less than 1/10th of a second;
- 40% of nerve fibers are linked to the retina;
- Our brain can see images that last for only 13 milliseconds;
- The human eye can register 36,000 visual messages every hour;
- Hence, the eLearning programs which incorporate suitable visuals gain a higher preference over.

The small print is important: every dog is different. The dog we have now settled right away and bonded easily. Our last dog stayed reserved and slightly skittish for the two years we had him. It all comes down to individual, history and breed. The rule I heard is " after 6 month the dog should be his true self"-this is too one-size-fits-all too, but it shows you should expect a process and adapt.
I agree. 7 years and still learning my little boy. Those that have been through a lot can take a very long time. Though he's shoving his nose into my lap and clearly wants my attention!!

My pup was homeless for her first year of life (luckily she had her brother with her) and it shocked me how extremely comfortable she got with me within the day. I adopted her in the morning and by afternoon she wouldn't stop laying in my lap (and she's a big dog too). Shows me how resilient dogs (or any animal) can be
Some dogs 'love bomb' because showing affection is the only way they have of pleasing a human. They do it to try and make themselves wanted, lovable. The 'please keep me, I'm a good dog' of behaviour. Not saying that is what your dog did and I love your story but it isn't always resilience. Sometimes it is fear wearing a very different coat.

First thing to do with ANY new dog, no matter the circumstances of its past, take it for a walk around the neighborhood. Leash walking helps establish you as the boss, this can calm a dog down because it knows someone is taking care of things just like a mom dog would. It’s super important.
No. Sorry, but that's not true for every new dog! I know dogs that are so scared, they couldn't process walking around the neighborhood at all, not to mention understanding anything about "boss-thoughts humans have". If your dog is healthy and has a happy, carefree personality - fine, you can do that. If it's a scared, new arrival, the less new stuff it will be confronted with the better. First: house/garden (fenced in!!!!!!! Like... every hole locked tight). Never without an escape-proof harness OR harness+collar, if really scared never take off the leash until dog is truly settled. Pee/poop in the garden. Nothing more. Home must feel like home, home must feel SAFE before you can take the dog for a walk. (also, the last thing a truly scared/panicky dog is worried about is "who is boss". If it bites you, certainly not because it wants to be the boss but because it's f ucking SCARED!)

My adopted dog leapt straight to stage 3, but I think he probably went through stage 1 & 2 at the Bide-a-Wee. (He was so happy to be adopted!!!)
Mine too! He acted like we were his family the second we first met him. He was crawling all over our laps and bringing his toys to us and everything. That being said tho, he peed everywhere for like months after we got him to try and claim the house lol

Some behaviors take years to disappear though. One day I got home and there was an injured dog at my door, I took her to the vet and despite hoping to get her adopted I ended up keeping her, she was probably treated badly and at the minimum reprimand she would pee, it made training very difficult... and it took years for her to stop doing that

This is so true! My rescue was afraid to get back in the car. But I was trying to take him to the park, or on a hike, or just any where we could have fun. My first would come, and I think after about 3 weeks of seeing Roamer always came back tired and happy, he finally decided to go, with lots of encouragement from me. Breaks my heart to think that he thought I was taking him back to the shelter.
My last rescue, Spawticus, was returned 3 times before I came along. Families think the dog should be happy within 2 days and not remember he was badly abused. When the shelter picked him for me it took about 5 months to get to phase 3. A year and a half later he is properly socialized, off meds, and plays and demands belly rubs. He's still a bit quirky, but he's my Spawti!
I have just brought my wife through to see this chart. I used to be military and I used to teach my guys the "Rule of Three" - three days, three weeks, three months. Basically for three days they would learning the environment and wishing they weren't there. At three weeks, they would have a basic routine and be getting into it. At three months, everything is second nature... It's good to see it works for re-homed animals too.
This past August I visited Kona, Hawaii as my daughter and I do for the past 10 years. This trip was different, special; I found a Facebook post through an animal rescue group in Hawaii looking to find someone to “escort” two of their dogs back to the airport my daughter and I were returning back home to at the end of our trip. Many volunteered but ultimately we were selected. Long story short, we went through quite a bit of obstacles to get these two adopted dogs back to their forever home. One week later, I got a text from the animal rescue employee who said the guy we brought them home to, decided he did not want to keep them. AFTER ONE WEEK. I wanted to track him down and punch him in the face. The happy ending to the story is that we were able to find another adopter who accepted the dogs.
My Dog was found abandoned with her brother when she was about 5 weeks old. My SIL took them in. She was very shy and didn't play with my SIL other dogs or let anybody touch her. She didn't eat much and stayed close to her brother. The first time I went to my SIL house I was watching a film on the Tv and I fell asleep . She crawled on to me and stuck her head inside my shirt. Every time I went she'd come out and follow me everywhere. She adopted me, 2 weeks later we took her home. we'd prepared a bed for her, she walked in to my house and sat down in her bed. She looked so happy. Still got her 12 years later. If I get angry she always comes and put her head on my knees and looks up at me with her happy face. I can't stay angry for long.

My friend's eight and a half years old greyhound - ex-racer - has finally learned how to be a dog after about ten months and it's pure joy. He'd never lived in a house before, so everything is new for him. I love that good boy!

You need to look at the leaf type to determine how much water to provide. Assuming a pot plant: waxy leaves, thicker than paper: 1 cup every three days papery thin leaves, dry/papery surface: ½ cup every two days or ¼ cup every day thick fleshy leaves: ½ cup once a week etc.
