40 ‘Cool Guides’ People Shared On This Group That Contain Information They Don’t Teach At School (New Pics)
Whether we're talking about politics or the animal kingdom, learning something new can require a fair amount of time and effort. Luckily, we don't always have to read lengthy scientific papers. Some people do it for us. And not only that — they narrow down everything to a few bullet points and illustrate them to help our minds remember.
And if you want a place that stores these effective tools, look no further than the subreddit r/CoolGuides. As the name suggests, it collects picture-based reference guides for pretty much anything and everything.
"If it seems like something someone might print, physically post, and reference then it is a good link for this sub," its moderators write in its 'About' section.

Dana Jandhyala, who has had a long career as an educator where she has taught in different schools and institutes, believes that visuals hold more appeal than plain text to curious and intuitive minds.
"Till date, several studies have been conducted which prove the power of visual aids in eLearning," she wrote. "And there are some interesting results drawn from them. Such as, learners respond to visual information faster as compared to text-only materials. Also, visuals help improve learning tremendously and on multiple levels. Hence, around 65% of the population comprises visual learners."

That really made my day, just love this - especially the sentence at the bottom. 🙏
Simple Trick For Calculating Percentage
I had this realization on my own. I’m crap at maths, it was the best feeling!
Jandhyala said there are several advantages of visual aids:
They help store information longer. "Images are the simplest and the most effective way to make sure that the information gets stored as long-term memory. As per Dr. Lynell Burmark, an education consultant, our short term memory processes words and can only retain about seven bits of information. Whereas, images are directly processed by our long-term memory, where they get indelibly etched."
They make communication quicker and simpler. "Information listed in bullets is no doubt simpler to process. But, that same information in the form of an image or a video is processed even more quickly."
As per the Visual Teaching Alliance:
- Of all the information transmitted to the brain, 90% is visual;
- As opposed to text, visuals are processed 60,000x faster;
- Humans are capable of getting the sense of a visual scene in less than 1/10th of a second;
- 40% of nerve fibers are linked to the retina;
- Our brain can see images that last for only 13 milliseconds;
- The human eye can register 36,000 visual messages every hour;
- Hence, the eLearning programs which incorporate suitable visuals gain a higher preference over.

Visuals aid better comprehension. "They help learners grasp concepts easily by stimulating imagination and affecting their cognitive capabilities. Besides, the visual language is also known to have the potential to stretch 'human bandwidth' – which comprises absorbing, comprehending and analyzing new information."
Visuals act as stimulators for emotions. "Emotions and visual information are processed in the same part of the human brain. Visual stimuli and emotional response are linked in a simple way and these two together generate what we call memories. Hence, powerful images and visual metaphors create strong impressions and lasting memories in learners."
They drive motivation. "Most of the students struggle with some of their subjects because they find them uninteresting and hence lack the motivation to put in the required efforts. Visuals are the best bet in such scenarios. Captivating images, engaging videos, interesting infographics, etc. help learners fight the boredom and motivate them to do better."
So it very well might be that the things you'll learn from these guides will stay with you. At least for a little while.

Why You Shouldn’t Give Up When Starting Something New
This what millions of antivaxers are experiencing right now. They feel informed because they did internet research. Or because they are a nurse. Or because they know someone who backs up their opinion. They don't even know how much they don't know. To me, the scariest part of being in the US right now is how willing people are to take their opinion as a fact and use groupthink as a form of confirmation. Thousands of people who studied the subject for 8 years and currently work in the field are saying one thing while the other side has Timmy, the YouTube video maker talking to a guy that used to work at company and got fired is saying another. And somehow the thought process is the video is right. That is scary

Guide To Celsius For Americans
0 is f*****g freezing your tits or balls off, 5 is teeth chattering freezing, 10 is cold as f**k, 15 is cold, 20 is tepid, 25 is warm, 30 is hot, 35 is sweltering, 40 is f**k its boiling, 45 is what kind of hell is this and 50 is f*****g kill me now lol.
On the same page as you up to 25. Until 30 everything is fine, 35 it is hot, 40 is uncomfortable, anything past that it is time to lay on the tiles and avoid moving.
Load More Replies...I would just like to add that coastal australia still gets well up to 45 degrees
Not only! Greece and Cyprus also get these degrees and i assume many more countries too
Load More Replies...Wrong -- -40 is cold. Zero is shorts and t-shirt weather. I live in Winnipeg.
25 is considered nice warm weather where I am, and I personally find anything above 16 odd degrees too much heat to handle 🤦♀️ I prefer being too cold than too hot, I can't cope with the latter
Load More Replies...This does not take into consideration humidity. My friends son learned the hard way that a Colorado 42 degrees is much easier for our bodies to handle than 56 degrees at the Golden Gate Bridge near sunset in the summer. I tried to warn him, but he refused to heed my warnings, said he would be fine in his t-shirt and jeans. Heck we were fifteen minutes drive inland where it was in the mid 70’s. It took all of five minutes for his face to turn blue and his chin to begin to quiver (I put some sweatshirts in the car before we left). Humidity and a bit of a breeze can make a person feel naked even when eating three layers of clothing, where up in the mountains where the humidity is really low, walking around in 40 degree weather in blue jeans and a t-shirt is no big deal
British Columbia in Canada got to 49.6 this summer. So 50 doesn't only happen in the desert.
Sorry, but Fahrenheit just makes more sense in this case. It's basically a 0 - 100 scale (so kinda like the metric system!)
I need a list like this but to understand Fahrenheit . I find Celsius easy (I daresay because I grew up with it lol), but for celcius zero is freezing point of water, 100 is boiling point of water
Load More Replies...See, this is helpful to me because 50 degrees is still cold in Fahrenheit. Why can't the whole world just use the same measurements?
Be careful what you wish for though, most of the world uses Celsius ;) To me, 100 degrees isn't a hot day it's the boiling point of water
Load More Replies...20ºC in Brazil people are freezing... 15ºC I'm still wearing shorts
Celsius to Fahrenheit - double and add 30. Not exact but gives you a good idea. Doesn't work in negatives.
Closer is double and add 40. Does work with negatives.
Load More Replies...-5 Maybe no shorts -10 Getting chilly -20 Get your coat -25 And cover your ears -30 Maybe don't stay outside for long unless you're well-protected -40 (same in °C and °F) Very cold, exercise caution
I should also note that it legitimately differs depending on the season, ie if you are used to warm weather you are going to want a coat at closer to -10 (but also probably delay wearing one until -20 because it feels like admitting summer is over) but when you're used to it being very cold, you'll throw on a T-shirt at -15 and have absolutely no regrets.
Load More Replies...This must be a more southern take on Celsius. In Canada: -50C - All rural schools will be closed. Sorry, city kids. -40C is the same as -40F - Nobody is allowed to complain how hot it is this summer. -30C - We're still going skating on the river, right? -20C - With or without the wind chill will determine how cold it really is. -15C - Winter is just starting. You might see people still holding on to their summer wear. -5C - Getting cool, late autumn. Starting to debate if a fall jacket or parka will be enough. Sweater weather in early spring. 5C - Jacket weather in early autumn. T-shirt time in spring. 10C - Balmy 15C - Wasps late summer. Canker worms mid spring. 20C - mosquito time 30C - "We're having a heatwave. A tropical heatwave." Nobody better be complaining this winter. 40C - "One man is dead following an attack after he said to his assailant "Hot enough for ya?" 50C - Global warming deniers start to ponder if there's something to this theory.
I wish I could upvote this more! Thank you, this is a lot more accurate where I'm from (Alberta).
Load More Replies...Happens daytime in Punjab, North India. Not a desert, just a victim of Climate Change.
I live in central Europe, we got a few times during summer where the temp was 47° C, maybe just for a day, but it does reach that temp on very hot summers.
-20°C = several layers of winter clothes including scarf, gloves and knitted hat; -10°C = winter coat, gloves, scarf; 0°C = normal coat, sweater, scarf if needed; 10°C = jacket, long sleeve; 15°C = sweatshirt, if it's sunny then t-shirt and shorts are ok; 20°C = tank top + shorts; 25°C = bikini weather; 30°C = bikini weather; 35°C = too hot to sleep indoors, drink plenty of water; 40°C = don't go out in the city while the sun is shining, drink water every 10 mins; 50°C = you're shedding your scorched skin after 5 mins in the sun
... who thinks that 5C is "very cold"??? A -20C is very cold, 5C is above fridge temperature
Why not mention that celsius is based around water.. At O⁰C water freeze At 100⁰C water boil Nice and simple. 😊
15C is bloody cols. 20c is cold. 25 is warmish. 30cis warm. 35C time to get into the shade. 40c hot.
In case no one else has been 'that guy' and pointed this out yet: Deserts are not hot. Deserts are dry. There are cold deserts. Thank you. :)
Dudes, 15 is not cool - it's still too cold for me to be productive. Thriving at 25.
Relating it to everyday reference points helps. Human body temperature is 37C (98.6F). 25C is what's considered "room temperature" (77F). 4C is a conventional fridge temp. 0 is when water freezes. -20 is a conventional freezer.
5C is NOT "very cold". It's above (fresh water) freezing! Actually, 20F (-7C) is not bad. 5F (-15C) is cold. 0F (-18C) is when it gets "very cold" (freezing temp of SALT water). Below 0F is holy-s**t-is-it-cold cold. -20F (-29C) is my-eyelids-froze-shut-today cold. -25F (-32C) is apocalypse-now cold.
-32C isn't that bad, Your car or truck will still start if you have a block heater. -45C is getting towards apocalypse-now cold.
Load More Replies...0 degreesC is (literally) freezing (not just figuratively) ... 100 degrees C is (literally) boiling (you’d probably be dead by now)
Yeah, yeah I know all this. Now explain Fahrenheit because it just seems like Americans are constantly on fire.
I would say 20 degrees is mild and 25 is warm. Anywhere between 15 and 30 is perfect for me!
Try the rule of thumb: Double celsius and add 30; e.g., 15 celsius [(15 x 2) + 30 = 60)
Zero isn't freezing, it is nasty neither here nor there... freezing us -10, -20 is, surprisingly, much better.
I think it is good to mention that at 0c,the water is freezing and at 100c, it is boiling
Went to a Big Day Out in Adelaide once that was +45C if I remember right
Load More Replies...Guide to those that use Celsius, 32F - Freezing point of water. open coat weather. Chilly but not bad at all. Summery if it's in the spring. If you're working or moving, no heavy clothes required. T-shirt weather 0F - Triple point of water. Cold, wear a hat and a coat. Heavy coat not necessary. -20F - Not too bad. Low humidity so kind of t-shirt weather if it's windless. You should bring a coat. Do wear a stocking cap. -40F - same as Celsius, You should wear a heavy coat but it's up to you. Depends on your tolerance. -60F - stay inside. There's not much you can do outside. It's manageable but you should have put on long johns 20 degrees ago. Now for the hot part... +50F - perfect for outside work +72F - room temp +80f - good weather for going to the beach and wearing shorts +90f - I'm going to kill everyone +100f - I'm glad A/C was invented +115f - Death Valley or full sun on on pavement. >115f - Just don't. Get in the basement and wait until evening.

That's for air temperature. Normal body temperature is around 37° (although depends on people but on average that's it) Water is a little different. 0 freezing water -> 100 boiling water
Depends where you live in Europe. 0°C is not freezing for us... but for countries on the south of Europe, 0° is low
Water turns to ice at 0C, 32F. This is called freezing. At the other end, water vaporizes at 100C, 212F. This is called boiling.

Plant Watering Guide
Not true. It depends on the type of plant. If it's a deciduous plant, you risk drowning it with overwater / waterlogging. Similarly if it is a succulent. You need to look at the leaf type to determine how much water to provide. Assuming a pot plant: waxy leaves, thicker than paper: 1 cup every three days papery thin leaves, dry/papery surface: ½ cup every two days or ¼ cup every day thick fleshy leaves: ½ cup once a week etc.
