40 ‘Cool Guides’ People Shared On This Group That Contain Information They Don’t Teach At School (New Pics)
Whether we're talking about politics or the animal kingdom, learning something new can require a fair amount of time and effort. Luckily, we don't always have to read lengthy scientific papers. Some people do it for us. And not only that — they narrow down everything to a few bullet points and illustrate them to help our minds remember.
And if you want a place that stores these effective tools, look no further than the subreddit r/CoolGuides. As the name suggests, it collects picture-based reference guides for pretty much anything and everything.
"If it seems like something someone might print, physically post, and reference then it is a good link for this sub," its moderators write in its 'About' section.

Dana Jandhyala, who has had a long career as an educator where she has taught in different schools and institutes, believes that visuals hold more appeal than plain text to curious and intuitive minds.
"Till date, several studies have been conducted which prove the power of visual aids in eLearning," she wrote. "And there are some interesting results drawn from them. Such as, learners respond to visual information faster as compared to text-only materials. Also, visuals help improve learning tremendously and on multiple levels. Hence, around 65% of the population comprises visual learners."

That really made my day, just love this - especially the sentence at the bottom. 🙏
Simple Trick For Calculating Percentage
I had this realization on my own. I’m crap at maths, it was the best feeling!
Jandhyala said there are several advantages of visual aids:
They help store information longer. "Images are the simplest and the most effective way to make sure that the information gets stored as long-term memory. As per Dr. Lynell Burmark, an education consultant, our short term memory processes words and can only retain about seven bits of information. Whereas, images are directly processed by our long-term memory, where they get indelibly etched."
They make communication quicker and simpler. "Information listed in bullets is no doubt simpler to process. But, that same information in the form of an image or a video is processed even more quickly."
As per the Visual Teaching Alliance:
- Of all the information transmitted to the brain, 90% is visual;
- As opposed to text, visuals are processed 60,000x faster;
- Humans are capable of getting the sense of a visual scene in less than 1/10th of a second;
- 40% of nerve fibers are linked to the retina;
- Our brain can see images that last for only 13 milliseconds;
- The human eye can register 36,000 visual messages every hour;
- Hence, the eLearning programs which incorporate suitable visuals gain a higher preference over.

Visuals aid better comprehension. "They help learners grasp concepts easily by stimulating imagination and affecting their cognitive capabilities. Besides, the visual language is also known to have the potential to stretch 'human bandwidth' – which comprises absorbing, comprehending and analyzing new information."
Visuals act as stimulators for emotions. "Emotions and visual information are processed in the same part of the human brain. Visual stimuli and emotional response are linked in a simple way and these two together generate what we call memories. Hence, powerful images and visual metaphors create strong impressions and lasting memories in learners."
They drive motivation. "Most of the students struggle with some of their subjects because they find them uninteresting and hence lack the motivation to put in the required efforts. Visuals are the best bet in such scenarios. Captivating images, engaging videos, interesting infographics, etc. help learners fight the boredom and motivate them to do better."
So it very well might be that the things you'll learn from these guides will stay with you. At least for a little while.

Don't Overshare Information
This!! This is why I don't put any stickers on my car! People need to stop advertising their lives on their cars and on social media!!!
I truly don't get why you received down votes, so here's an upvote!
Load More Replies...The only ones that really bother me, which ironically were not mentioned here, are the "stick family" ones that yell, "Hey! We have four daughters and a baby boy! Are you obsessed with kids? Follow us to the park and oogle ours!"
I rarely see cars with any stickers so I don't see the point of that.
I can only guess you don't live in the US. The cars here are covered in stickers that reflect the owner's likes and life.
Load More Replies...I don't know... the hunting one screams "I have a gun!" But honestly, I've always thought it unsafe and pretty tacky to mark up your car with stickers.
I have a sticker on my window that says " No one cares about your stupid stick family" I see people, in my rear view mirror, pulling up a bit closer to read it and then busting out laughing :) I love that
Load More Replies...hmm I have two one is a Honeybee and the the other says stay back bees on my pickup What does that mean to robbers?
Leave well alone I should think! Unless they really adore honey.
Load More Replies...Why do the Americans show off their kids school achievements? We have no need to do that in Britain
Americans don’t tend to support their children, but they will brag about them as if that’s some kind of support. Also, it’s the schools selling stickers, because they bought them, because some company selling them told them they needed to buy them, and maybe some company rep was astroturfing at school board meetings... Hyper-capitalism in the USA drives a lot of things people think is just culture.
Load More Replies...If nothing else, bumper stickers put your info on a static (when you're away) object. If someone doesn't like your bumper sticker (because they dislike that politican/policy/law/event/viewpoint/religion/organization/etc) they may just choose to vandalize your car because they disagree with it. In essence, I agree that bumper stickers can lead to negative consequences and tell people too much about you.
this is just paranoia imo. Would be criminals driving around on the road aren't smart/invested enough to deduce all of that while going down the highway or parked at Walmart and plan to rob you accordingly. Those that are I'd guess are super rare and it isn't worth bending over backwards in the off-chance you meet that statistically unlikely outcome. Over and over we hear that robbers check if doors are locked then keep it moving. Just lock your doors.
You are missing the burglars that walk streets and look at parked cars outside people's homes. They frequently eye up properties and would happily use information slapped all over a car. My sister came home to burglars once. She'd changed her weekly routine because her husband was in hospital so she was home unexpectedly early. Smart burglars learn what you do.

Yeah, right. Utter nonsense though. You believe cars without sticker don't get checked? You believe they'll only check one side? What do you actually practically believe makes the difference? It's only an attempt at saying 'back off' to the car behind.
Load More Replies...Who cares about the baby on board? Do you think, we usually crash into the car in front of us? But now there is a baby ... insert name) we spare you?
Hunting? Wouldn't you assume that they might have firearms in the home and maybe not just ones intended for hunting?
Most people who are going to engage in a crime of opportunity are not going to use the stickers on your car as a guide. Everyone knows people lend other people cars all the time. This is just creating fear or concern where there does not need to be.
But burglars will. I don't know how it is in the US, but in Europe, burglars are well organized most of the time. They drive around the neighbourhoods, picking out the easier houses and learning the routines of the people living there. You don't have to wonder finding your house robbed when you come back from work in borad daylight in a low crime area. Then you know you gave them a clue.
Load More Replies...We give away too much personal information without even realizing it.
The baby on board one is so that, if there's an accident, the emergency workers will prioritise your car.
Another interpretation of the "Hunting" sticker: We hunt so we have numerous firearms, and other hunting equipment. Your chances of getting shot are much higher here. Enter at your own risk.
It always amazes me how much personal information about themselves and their children Americans display all of the time. Mostly to boast about themselves.
We never put pug imagery on the car, I've known of two thefts and so that was just not going to happen. As it was the dogs were never left alone in the car.
Why don't we put detectors on every sidewalk and street light, so that only one at a time is lit, then turned off after the object passes by?
WTF is oilfield spouse a thing? Why would you be proud to be a spouse of someone in especially that workfield? Nothing against those worksers, but I don't understand this inappropriate pride?
I used to have an NRA sticker on my windshield despite not being a member. I wonder what people would assume based on that? :-D
That you may have unsecured guns at home that a worth stealing when you're not at home.
Load More Replies...In Illinois, all the new drivers have to drive around with "student driver" stickers. Not a bad idea but also a terrible idea. And I have yet to see anyone name their dog on their car.
Maybe different in US (most BP post seems to come from there) but this sounds like the "dont share on social media that you are going away" myth. At least a myth here in Sweden , police has several times debunked it and said no ducumented case has occured.
The baby on board sign, though, is helpful for paramedics when you've been in a crash to let them know a baby is in the backseat, and the occupants are unable to speak.
They should check anyway--lots of parents don't use that sticker
Load More Replies...In the UK it's pretty rare to see a sticker of any kind. PS. The hunting would should state "We like murdering defencless animals for fun because we're c***s. Burgle our house, we deserve it."
I don't have a problem with hunting if you eat the food you hunt. It's how some people keep their families fed through the winter. I have much more of a problem with commercial farms that slaughter animals senselessly so they can keep their bank accounts full, knowing that the grocery stores will continue to throw out perfectly good meat. My point being if you hunt for sport you're a psychotic a$$, but if you hunt for food you aren't more of a ¢unt than someone who buys meat from the grocery store.
Load More Replies...Yeah, but Baby on Board stickers are for emergency workers to know if they should focus on the backseat, so you can't remove those.
In 1984, Michael Lerner drove his 18-month-old nephew home. He realized that he was driving more carefully (and therefore slowly) than usual, and his fellow drivers were getting annoyed. “People were tailgating me and cutting me off, for the first time, I felt like a parent feels when they have a kid in the car.” Lerner partnered and founded “Safety 1st,” a company that made the “Baby on Board” sign and other child safety products. Ultimately, the sign’s meaning and purpose are simple. It serves as a visual cue to other drivers to be cautious, especially when driving behind a vehicle with that sticker. Emergency services check all over the vehicle to ensure they have all the occupants - a sign isn't going to alter that.
Load More Replies...This is information that probably only a high end, specialist, burglar/thief would look for, especially on an expensive vehicle. The average burglary is a crime of opportunity carried out by strung out dope freaks.
Since most people never take them off, it's no help at all for them.

Why You Shouldn’t Give Up When Starting Something New
This what millions of antivaxers are experiencing right now. They feel informed because they did internet research. Or because they are a nurse. Or because they know someone who backs up their opinion. They don't even know how much they don't know. To me, the scariest part of being in the US right now is how willing people are to take their opinion as a fact and use groupthink as a form of confirmation. Thousands of people who studied the subject for 8 years and currently work in the field are saying one thing while the other side has Timmy, the YouTube video maker talking to a guy that used to work at company and got fired is saying another. And somehow the thought process is the video is right. That is scary

Plant Watering Guide
Not true. It depends on the type of plant. If it's a deciduous plant, you risk drowning it with overwater / waterlogging. Similarly if it is a succulent. You need to look at the leaf type to determine how much water to provide. Assuming a pot plant: waxy leaves, thicker than paper: 1 cup every three days papery thin leaves, dry/papery surface: ½ cup every two days or ¼ cup every day thick fleshy leaves: ½ cup once a week etc.
