’50 Hour Clean’: Cleaning Service Shares Before & After Pics Of An Elderly Widower’s Place That Looked Like Hell But Not Anymore
An elderly widower from Dalton, United Kingdom, was unable to get any help cleaning his house for years. Until Emma-lea Dalton and her team at My Kind of Clean stepped in, turning the filthy living space into a cozy home.
They even confessed they were emotional at the end of the 50-hour gig (just over 8 hours of work for six people) as they realized how this job had changed the gentleman’s life for the better.
My Kind of Clean also took photos of the property before, during, and after the makeover, which they posted to their social media, stressing that no one should be embarrassed to ask for a hand if they need one. Or twelve. After all, look at the difference it can make.

“I really hope that this will help people understand they should not be embarrassed by things like this and ask for help if needed,” Emma-lea told The Mail.
Emma-lea and her team visited the site beforehand just to see the state that it was in. “It had been lived in for a good few years like this without help for this elderly gentleman,” she said. “He had hoarded quite a bit of stuff as we had two skips full.”

According to Emma-lea, the place probably had been degenerating because the owner’s wife died and the man struggled to take care of everything by himself. Sadly, the mess eventually got to the point we see in the photos, and the man’s friend reached out to My Kind of Clean for help. Otherwise, he would most likely have continued living in conditions like that.

“There will be other people out there who are in a similar position, and I want them to know they should not feel embarrassed and ask for help,” Emma-lea said. “We started as a cleaners that provide extra care for our customers, so it is nice to see that highlighted.”

After the work was done, the man’s friend came back and was absolutely speechless. The woman who currently helps him to get by said that he was happy with the job and got himself tucked up in his nice clean bed.

People were really, really impressed with the transformation
With the state this home was in, I think the person who lives there, really needs professional help for their mental health. Hopefully the boost of wellbeing experienced by having a clean home now, will give them the energy to go seek help.
Yeah, this is a very probable cause of why that apartment looked like it exploded. Depression just does that to a person very often - no will and energy to do anything.

It is always easy to judge others. What the photos of this home show us is what mental health issues and loneliness can look like. Depression, ADHD, arthritis, a severely bad back, etc. or a mix of these can make a human being incapable of more than getting through the day. I hope the crew who did such a good job will stay in touch with this man. There is such a lot of lonely people who need someone to show a little bit of interest and to take the time to say a few words, maybe have a cup of coffee together once in a while. It may be but a small gesture that can change the day for someone else.
I helped clean a house like this once. While several of my dear co workers made fiun of the person, I just felt deep sadness for him. You really have to be in a bad place for a long time to end up like this. I hope he got help. Also I was a wreck at the end of the day... glad I dont have to do that daily. But very satisfying to deliver a nice clean appartement.
Helping him probably helped prolong his life, as cooking in those conditions alone endangered him from food poisoning. Please more good stories like these :)
I don't appreciate using someone's pain to show another one's gain. This is clearly the home of someone with problems that are none of our business and should be dealt with by the right people with dignity. Not shown publicly.
Can your really get something that was that dirty clean? I mean without tearing the whole place apart?
That's a good question, because there was a awful amount of mold, dirt and other things. With all respect, but burning down the hole place and mowing to a new home would be a better idea?

What a difference! I was shocked at how clean that bathtub and toilet were. I can't help but feel the person living there has some kind of mental needs going on. The place looks great, but how long will it stay that way? If you let it get that damn bad before--and it was HORRIFIC--then they will let it get filthy again. I hope that this time maybe, I will be proven wrong. Great job to this company!!
I always wonder - when I see pics like these - how the person was able to maintain basic needs like cooking, washing themselves or their clothes... Judging by the pics it seems impossible to do with the state the utilities were in... Glad he got the help so badly needed and hope he will be able to avoid or prevent such a state of things in the future
I have seen such houses in Egypt. In the province, women do laundry in a canal where dead animals swim and rats run along. Unfortunately, the kitchen looks like this, and there are used nappies and swarms of flies flying. Cows or goats usually stand in one of the rooms. There are a lot of such flats there. None of the residents see conditions that are difficult to call human. No wonder that 80% of the population has a liver virus caused by dirt. Disaster.
It's such an amazing transformation! My question is, how and why do you let your home become like this? I understand that doing household chores is not fun, but this is pure neglect. Not just for the home, but for themselves also. Because this kind of dirt definitely has some health hazards.
Sometimes the smallest things can get on top of us, the best of us, then the small thing becomes a bigger thing, which crushes you even more, and so it goes until the task is literally unthinkable. The clue is in the name, ‘KIND’, be kind, don’t judge. This can happen to anyone, mental health issues or no, who’s simply having a bad day, a bad month, bad years.

I know this comment will get a gazillion downvotes, but no matter how sad and depressed a man after the dead of his wife is, letting all turn to this state... If someone is that sad than why even keep on living. I wonder how many homes of widowed men looks like this and I doubt widowed women homes are the same (possible ofc but I bet it's rare). This simply points again - men need women, men are a burden. That's why oppression exists - nobody if not forced somehow will accept a life serving others for nothing.
This was a lot of hard work done in an excellent manner by very professional people. Kudos to the hardworking individuals.
"All in a day's work": I also need me some of these 50h workdays, if I'm to get back on schedule at some point.
