My main job at the time was customer services operative - that was much better as it was them who called you as they needed help with something.

As one of them, thank you, your kind gesture is deeply appreciated. I hate when I hear someone uninterested BUT THEY'RE NOT HANGING UP. And I'm obligated to keep talking for next 2-3 minutes and your objections would not matter. You have to hang up or listen to the end and trust me, we don't like it either to push it down your earholes, but we're being recorded thus we can't really shorten the conversation much, you're still ending up with at least one and a half minutes taken from your life. Just say "not interested" and hang up. Or, if it's the first contact, tell them to remove your number from the database AND WAIT FOR THEM TO CONFIRM, cause without giving you confirmation, they're not supposed to do s**t with your outburst of rage of "whyareyoucallingmestopcalling".

Sometimes sadly - you just have to hang up cos you cant even get a word in to say your not interested.

Hellysal - do you have to keep talking after someone has hung up? Does it count as your call record even though they have disconnected? We got regularly listened into by managers - but unsure who hung up on who worked.

earlier this week I had 6 calls in 2 days from the same number - ignored the 1st couple, no one there when I answered the next 3. finally spoke to someone and able to request they take me off their database, as due to living in a rented property I was not in the market for their product. Just really want to know who is flogging our personal details for money. If you dont answer - their system will just keep calling you. seriously p****d me off when I dived out of the shower as was expecting an important call only to see "them again"

My pet hate is computerised telemarket dialling. The system will call a large volume of numbers at once, and only first few people who pick up will get a person on the end of the line. the rest - you answer and there is no-one there.

Kiki, actually, not everybody of them knew, what they get into. My first work was as a telemarketer. I was eighteen and because of family reasons I needed that work very badly. Of course, I knew before that almost nobody likes telemarketers so I was sure it wil not bea great experience. Still, the scale of abuse, threatening and discomfort was surprising for me. People were cursing me, threatening me and my family, one client found my profile on facebook and wrote some nasty things in it. Few persons made me sexual propositions - one older man said very specifically what he would do to me, it was so gross... Sometimes I was really scared and despite my need of money I quit after four months. Believe me, usually it is not that telemarketers really want this job and enjoy to make people angry. And sometimes they also have very hard time while at work.

The call center I worked at handled inbound and outbound calling for many different companies. I applied for inbound calls, but was basically told "outbound or nothing." I'd applied to several different companies but the call center was the only one to even offer an interview, so I took it. At least my group wasn't required to give three rebuttals-- some companies require people calling on their behalf to continue the call until the recipient says "no" FOUR times. So it's "No" "but what about..." "No" "did I mention..." "No" "but wait!" "No". THEN they're allowed to end the call.

Enuya Nearly everyone has been hounded by a telemarketer at one point or other. You yourself admitted that you took the job knowing that no one liked telemarketers. There were plenty of other jobs you could have worked that would have resulted in less abuse and less pissing off customers. I get telemarketers are only doing their jobs but it doesn't make me less pissed off about it when they are constantly trying to sell me s**t I don't want and not taking "no" for an answer. The last telemarketer that called me wanted to sell me a newspaper subscription. I told her no thanks, I don't read the newspaper because I can read the news online and she PERSISTED, despite me saying "no" several times until I finally just hung up on her.

I am always pleasant to telemarketers and brief once I know I don't want their product or service - contrary to popular belief it does happen so I listen. I have employed telemarketing agencies in previous jobs and know, admittedly second-hand, how tough it is. I worked for an ethical organisation and didn't want the telemarketers to use the harder sells and hope that they enjoyed working on our Account - we always got good feedback from our target market. Hope you are doing something that you enjoy now.

Well, we had to introduce ourselves at the beginning of every conversation. With my name - average but not extremely popular - and a name of the city it was pretty easy to find me. After this accident I improved my privacy settings and hid some data. Looks like it work.
