I made these photos throughout 2014 and plan to continue on this project with more animals of different kinds – I’m thinking lions, wolves, apes, walruses and pretty much anything else. Pandas are of course the ultimate dream, so if anybody has a panda who wouldn’t mind if I photographed it, you can drop me a line where I live in Amsterdam!
It’s not easy working with animals, especially when trying to get them to do the three things I need for a photo (mouth closed, sitting still, looking at at the lens).
Scuba
McKayla Maroney’s spirit animal.
Owen
Owen, a young and very hyper Husky with heterochromic eyes.
The Sensei
Katsuo, the no-joking male Japanese Akita.
Tartufo
Can anyone suggest a better caption for this? I know how black cats are notoriously hard to photograph.
Louai
A rare blue-eyed Arabian horse. This photo is my personal favorite.
The Dictator
Gin, the wonderfully grumpy Persian cat.
Lissie
Lissie, a nervous 10 month old Pug.
Maffalda
Maffalda, a Moroccan street dog turned into a loving pet.
The White Wizard
Avalon, the wise Swiss Shepherd.
Scott
Scott, the two year old husky ready for his duty.
Myra
Myra the West Highland Terrier with an attitude.
Kareem
Kareem ,a stern and serious two year old Arabian horse.
Hurko
Hurko, a deaf Dalmatian who responds to sign language.
Trisha
Trisha, the diva.
Puppy!
And to top it off, a Bernese Mountain pup.
The Eldest Sibling
Four Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retreivers.

Share on FacebookCool! It's hard to get a portrait of animals, they are very mobile and do not sit in one place =)
Some of them looks from picture with wisdom and intelligence, others look playful or worried. Well captured emotions! :)
Stunning pictures full of personality and the character of the animal! Would love to make some paintings of these inspiring subjects!
I don't think black cats are notoriously hard to photograph and it's sad if anyone thinks so!!
Agreed. Also, cat color has nothing to do with race (most of the time). It's like saying blonde people tend to like carrots.
Load More Replies...they all are stunning, my favorite is the black cat, it is hard to capture the fur texture of them and you did an amazing job
Beautiful. I had a black kitty that i ended up rehoming to an elderly lady, but he loved having his picture taken
Wish I had your talent. I'm working on a project for school where I need to take pictures of dogs in a shelter. It is sooooo difficult!
Wow, love these. Wish you could take a soulful photo of my 17 year old cat before she dies.
Aww yhe pug looks like its going to cry. The rest are beautiful! God's amazing creatures
"I love horses and animals. Can you put more pictures of animals on the page?" Azalia, my 6 year old daughter.

Your portraits are beautiful!I don't know how you did it, and each animal shows their spirit.
They are all so wonderful. Scuba is my favorite. I love his expression.
I think is very cool to take picture of animals it is fun, I do it too, and love it makes my happy.
They really do show their personalities. All animals have their own unique personalities. ;)
I loved all them darlings! And I didn't know horses could have blue eyes. :)

Beautiful! They are all beautiful animals! And the pics show their true beauty! This job must be difficult but so great to do
Fabulous photos, you've captured the essence of each animal beautifully, well done. Particularly love Maffalda - fab.
I wish you could've added how long each session took. I'm sure some were more difficult than others.
Awesome pictures! Just love how they look so serious and wise. Makes me want to toss a ball or piece of yarn to watch them light up.
Fabulous! Congratulations, it is indeed very hard to take closeups of animals. I have tried zillions of times to do that with my pets.
Beautiful! They all show their personalities. For Tartufo - "Basement Cat in the Basement"
A light colored or white background would make the black animal stand out! Light blue for the blue eyed horse!!!!!
Actually the opposite is true... If you light for the cat, the background would be completely blown out if was white
