Time and again we have written about choosing beggars, the kind of people who feel like the whole world revolves around them. Not only do they act entitled, but they go into a full breakdown if someone refuses to fulfill their unfair expectations. To see what I mean, scroll through our previous posts with blood-boiling examples of choosing beggars here, here and here.
But luckily the world is built on karma, and if there’s darkness there must be light too. Just like this corner of Reddit titled “Choosing Givers” which is basically an antidote to the previously mentioned notorious subreddit. Choosing Givers is thoroughly dedicated to good-hearted, selfless people who make this world go round and remind us that whatever happens, we still gotta believe in humanity.

The Opposite Of Choosing Beggars - My Wife Trying To Sell Her Car
That was about 2 millioprahs of joy (1 full oprah of joy is the sum of joy from giving away 300 new cars).
I love you word. Using it now! My feelings for 2022 is equivalent to 3 millioprahs of excitement
Load More Replies...It's lucky the buyer decided to to into detail about why they needed it! Once someone told me "Sorry, I can't hold it" I'd have just said I totally understand and left it at that.
Me, too! I would feel embarrassed to share. Not that there is any shame in being in need, but we are made to feel that way in the US.
Load More Replies...So incredibly kind. Both parties will be smiling about this for a long time.
Here are some cool anecdotes. First case. Friend of mine (let's call him "A") wanted to buy his friend's car (let's call the friend "C"). C was offered $3000 by the dealer. A said to C, "no way that is too low!" A then paid C $4500 for the car. People with ethics do exist. Another friend of mine. Got a new iPad and iPhone. *Gave* me the older ones. He's done this about 3-4 times, whenever he gets an upgrade. I am amazed every time and always offer to buy them.

Load More Replies...So my partner and I are homeless right now- the past 2 years have been a steady series of unfortunate events that. We lost our home, partner lost his job, I became ill and had to leave my job and to top it all off we lost our car in car crash. We've set up a gofundme as we are just struggling so much and can't seem to catch a break. Some absolute angel of a woman donated to our gofundme and a month or so later she contacted us again to say she was getting a new car and she had decided to just give us her current car instead of selling it (it was valued at a couple grand.) Restored my faith in others, we thought this kind of thing only happened in movies and certainly not to people like us.
I remember a man that found an ad for a Rolls Royce listed for $50. He thought it was probably a typo and they forgot the "K" behind it. Still he answered the ad and the woman told him that no one else had called. He went to look at the car thinking it would be a pile of junk, but it was in pristine condition, low miles. The lady said it belonged to her husband, but that she didn't drive so there seemed no need to keep it. He told her she could get much more for it. She said "Probably, but my husband would want it to go to someone that really needed it."
Everyone can do this in a small way. That is the beauty of it. I helped out a couple of times. People who didn't had enough money at the checkout. Just little amounts. Helping elderly carrying something. Whatever. This one is beautiful, a car for someone who really needs it. But you can also do it in small ways. ❤
Now that's just good people. Warms my heart and I hope it inspires others to such generosity as they can afford
.....and of course i didn't cry, i am a very tough person and very intimidating
This kind of situation happened to my family. I got into a car accident that totalled one of our cars and we were down to one car. A few days after this happened, my aunt's friend just gave us a car that she didn't need anymore. We were so thankful to her.
We need to be like this all day everyday. We need to see that helping others is not a handout and there is nothing wrong with just doing stuff out of the kindness of our hearts, wanting nothing in return. That's literally the definition of generosity. Helping and caring about the welfare of others. Most of us are out here just trying to eat and exist. Busting our backs just maintaining ourselves is hard as it is. We just need better people like this so everyone can be okay.
This i really nice, the "so excited" at the thought of the car when she paying for it and then gets it for free, we see so many on here who would swear at her or something and this shows, be nice and humble sometimes and people will be the same right back.
The idiom is wrong. The expression is “Beggars can’t be choosers.” Which would mean choosy beggars not choosing beggars.
I think it is referring to many stories about "choosing beggars" that circulate around internet, from subreddit of that name.

I did this once. Gave away a $1500 minivan to a family with a third baby on the way. The van had some cosmetic issues but the engine and drivetrain were in great shape. Now you all know, but don't tell anyone okay?
I’ve been in that exact same scenario, I hope he knows what’s he’s done for her is priceless
The person giving the car is a woman. There’s nothing that suggests the person receiving the car is a woman.

Serial killers are adapting. Nobody buys the "help me put this inside my van" anymore. %) Happy new year.
Well, I guess I'll be the party pooper no. But I would NOT accept anything for "free" / gift from strangers because of the fact that Nothing is free. I learn that the very, very, Hard way and of course, have trust issues. But - if the person really got the car and the story ended there then; yey. But once again, trust no one but your pets is my motto, pitty.

When you scroll through this list, you can’t help but wonder what exactly drives these selfless acts and behaviors. Are some people born altruists, or is it something they acquire throughout their lives? After all, humans have a notorious reputation for being selfish creatures who put their own needs ahead of everyone else's.
According to researchers, altruism involves helping others at a cost to the self, not only when such behavior is supported by strategic considerations like reciprocity or cooperation, but even in the absence of expectation for future benefit. In other words, people who choose to do something good for others don’t necessarily expect anything good back from them.

This illuminating study suggested that each altruist act is a choice just like any other, with pros, cons, and even the occasional mistake. The authors of the study found that generous choices took more time to make than selfish ones, especially for those who made more selfish choices overall, consistent with their decision-making model. Interestingly, about half of the generous choices participants made appeared to be mistakes.

A Text From Our Landlords This Morning
Oh my. It gives me hope for the future that there are people like this.
In reality, the strength of good-hearted people who don’t expect anything back has to do with their sense of compassion. And compassion starts with empathy — imagining putting ourselves in the mind of another person and imagining what they’re going through. Once we’ve empathized, and feel their suffering, the second half of compassion is wanting to end that suffering. This is when good-hearted actions may occur.
But most importantly, in order to make a compassionate move, a person has to get themselves out of the way and to think of the other person. On the other hand, it’s been suggested that compassionate behavior may be appealing for people because it reduces the feelings of guilt from their privilege and good fortune.

My old grandma used to say 'Giving of oneself is greater than giving money'. As a little girl, she grew up in poverty and used to get up before dawn to go check the street gutters for lost coins from the night before. I think what she meant was that you didn't have to be rich to help people less fortunate than yourself. No amount of money ever bought a second of time.

Lol being a cheap and redneck farmer all I can think of is the time I spent in a crawlspace dressed in plastic bags and ski goggles to sedate and remove a skunk. You definitely go nose blind on the smell and even covered in plastic bags I still smelled like skunk for about a month afterwards. The skunk was fine and released about an hour away from my house (farm at the time). Still laugh at myself for this. I looked ridiculous.

In November, the area I live in was hit badly by a storm - thousands of trees down. In the village where I live, a lovely man with a chainsaw offered to come around and help clear any trees that were causing issues - he came around ours as we had a large tree fall and completely block our elderly neighbours driveway (thankfully missing his house!). He spent nearly three hours (with my husbands help, clearing away a massive conifer tree so that the access to my neighbour was clear. He spent all day going around the village asking people if they needed help with tree clearance and even did it the weekend after! As far as I know, he didn't receive a penny for this - we offered him several times to pay! He was the village MVP!!
That's awesome! We had similar happen after Hurricane Charley hit us. Guys came around with chainsaws and cleared the roads and helped us get the big trees off our homes and yards. It was amazing! Thank you to those people who helped us after the storm! People came from all over to help, they brought food and water. The red cross drove through neighborhoods handing out MRE's. And all of our neighbors helped each other out. My husband would fire up the generator each morning to make a big pot of coffee and go door to door to bring hot coffee to the neighbors.

Took my car to my usual mechanic ( fab guy) for a look at an issue I had with the car. Go to pick up the car and he says " couldn't find anything wrong and it seems to have correct itself whatever it was". Asked how much I owed him. " no charge. when there's something really wrong with it I'll charge you". Where do you find someone who's time is not valuable ? I brought him a lemon pie and oddly enough it was his favourite - lol
Once when we were moving in to a new apartment (one of those deals where they split a house into an upstairs and downstairs apartment), we’re struggling - my mom in her 50s, me 17 and small, my sister was 22? This group of guys were doing lawn care a few houses down. They come over, half of them don’t seem to speak English, the apparent leader has broken English, he asks if we need help. Eventually we’re like “yeah, sure” so this team of 6 Hispanic landscapers moved all of our furniture in, up the stairs into the apartment, along with boxes and stuff. They finish and my mom offers them money. We didn’t have a lot, it was basically everything in her wallet. The lead guy refuses. Mom is like “please take it, you helped out so much. Buy your guys some pizza.” The guy refuses again. Finally my mom suggest donating it to his church and then the guys are all like “Oh, yeah, okay.” We never saw them again. I hope they’re all doing well. It was very kind.

She was at a cousin's baseball game, and heard that one of the players was struggling financially. She brought him to her car, and gave him $400. She figured that it wasn't really"her money" because she didn't earn it, so didn't figure it a huge loss of money, just a diminished lucky earning. He and his wife came the next game a few weeks later and told her that his father had come and stolen $300 from them. Her kindness completely negated the stolen money, and left them with $100. Long story short; once i had to take a flight back home from another country with my youngest son (a baby). When i got home it was almost midnight and i realized my husband (who didnt travel back with us) had the keys for our apartment and i could not get in. It was freezing outside and i was stressed. A young man that i didnt know came out from the student house on the other side of the street with a blanket and said he saw us from his window and thought we needed help. It could be a really dangerous situation but i was tired and scared my son would get cold so i decided to trust him. He gave me food and his bed for the night for me and my son (he slept on the sofa). In a tiny student apartment. I called for help to get in to our apartment the next day but that restored my faith in humanity and that some people still just want to help. No hidden agenda - just for the sake of being a good fellow human. I'm forever grateful and will pass it on. Just like the people here!
Paying It Forward is an enjoyable and properly decent thing to do. You don’t have to make big gestures, it can be a smile for the senior citizen outside the supermarket, you can buy a coffee for a stranger, heading through a toll booth? Pay for the car behind. You’ll be met with smiles. Do it, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the response.
