Beggars can’t be choosers or at least they shouldn’t be. But we keep seeing that this isn’t the case—there are plenty of people out there who keep putting their needs ahead of everyone else’s and get featured in the incredibly popular Choosing Beggars subreddit.

This Reddit community has a whopping 1.9 million members and is dedicated to stories about people who are way too picky. Be sure to check out Bored Panda's previous posts about the Choosing Beggars community right here and here, and give their subreddit a visit for some more awesome content.

Meanwhile, scroll down and upvote your fave pics of people who really need to get a grip and let us know in the comments if you’ve ever had the “pleasure” of meeting folks like this in real life. Some people feel like they’re entitled to special treatment and they don’t even realize that they might be hurting someone else. There are psychological reasons for this, so let’s get into them.

Wow, how ungrateful. If someone offered to pay for my groceries I would put the non essentials back (if I had any).

Feeling special and entitled is entirely natural when you’re a child: kids think that they’re the center of the world and it’s what psychologists refer to as healthy narcissism. However, it’s only one stage of a person’s psychological and emotional development—they eventually need to grow out of it and learn to respect others and what they want, too.

According to psychotherapist and psychoanalyst F. Diane Barth, L.C.S.W, who has a private practice in New York City, sometimes a sense of entitlement can even emerge when people feel mistreated or they don’t think that they’re getting what they need.

“Often individuals who have been mistreated or disrespected exhibit a sense of entitlement when they start to feel that they deserve better than they have been getting. This is part of a healthy shift towards self-respect. Yet they, too, eventually need to find a way to balance self-respect with respect for others,” Barth writes on Psychology Today.

She points out that a small amount of entitlement is good for adults. Things like believing that we have the right to be respected by others and that we have the right to take care of ourselves and our loved-ones are positive things. But this doesn’t extend to situations where our actions or sense of entitlement benefit us at the cost of hurting those around us. Like cutting in line. Don’t cut in line. It’s a jerk move.

I feel bad for people who are named Karen. Remember it’s a meme, but for a very realistic depiction of behaviors in the Wild.

I'm a Karen, I mean my name, not my attitude. I have worked in retail, and go out of my way to be kind. However, that being said, I'm tiring of this. I know, it's funny. But I've actually had people be incredibly rude to me just upon hearing my name, without me saying a word. I've got a pretty good sense of humor, and at first I thought it was funny, but as I said. I'm getting tired.

Not a specific Karen. It's the archatypical entitled customer. And yes, it's an American meme.

At a high-end dept store, I was waiting to pay for a couple pair of shoes. This customer in front of me was returning a pair of shoes. She said they hurt her feet. The cashier opened the box and I swear, those shoes were brown colored (originally white). The soles were completely worn out. And they smelled sooo bad. The look on the cashier's face was priceless. I think I had the same look on my face. Cashier looked at the receipt and they were purchased over a year ago. They of course didn't want to accept the return but she made a huge scene and they took them back. A manager there told me they once took a used car tire back because the customer threw a huge fit- they didn't/don't even sell tires, they seek clothes LOL. Crazy.

And THAT'S why we now have to deal with a Karen. Managers don't want to say no and deal with a screaming fit laid out by an adult, acting like a child throwing a tantrum in the candy aisle, whose never been told 'no' before in their life.

I'm with them on a lot of this, but to say they don't have to mention the no-return policy (specifically the one about clearance/sale items) because it's printed on the receipt I can't get behind. By the time you have the receipt, you've made the purchase, and it's too late to decide you aren't OK with it.

This is a case of buyer beware. If not sure of the purchase and the return policy is not displayed in the store (usually on or near the check out), it really is up to the customer to ask, especially regarding sale/clearance items. I have never had a clerk tell me the return policy at checkout. Most businesses emphasize speed of check-out, not quoting store policy

So now since it’s not socially acceptable (never is, but people are finally called out on it) to judge people on skin color, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious views, social status, and ability, we are going straight to judging and picking on people based on what they are NAMED! And society has determined it is perfectly ok to judge and demean anyone named Karen, Chad, Becky, Kyle, etc. Well you know what, I know plenty of perfectly lovely people with these names. And I know plenty of complete a******s who are named other things. And more often than not it is pathetic sad little people taking out their frustrations on others who happen to have a name deemed acceptable by society to be used as a derogatory term. Talk about creating a situation. I used to be pretty easy-going, but the more I get teased as a adult, and treated rudely and demeaned in public because of my name, the more I want to act like an a*****e and become exactly what they’re teasing me about.

Sing it sister! I'm a Karen as well. I use Louloubelle on here for the very reason that I get dismissed once someone sees my real name. I'm glad my mother isn't alive to see this. She'd be so hurt.

I've worked retail, so I get it. But, who goes on a website before they visit the store specifically to look at a return policy? And isn't it being printed on the receipt a little late to make an informed decision? What would it hurt to post the return policy? I'd agree with looking it up on your phone, except most giant stores have almost zero phone reception.

That's a bit too sarcastic for customers I think. Often we don't (and should) read the back of a receipt but there are more polite ways of getting your point across.

I have 3 friends called Karen and one of them owns a clothing shop. She jokes around saying "Well, I know the owner! I'm going to get you fired!2 Then turns to one of the floor mirrors and tells herself off for what ever made up reason she can think up. It's hilarious when she gets to a point where she escorts herself out the door and stamps back in saying "That's the last we will see of her! She is banned!"

Sorry. I don't find it funny. It was for about 5 minutes. Now it's turning into something nasty. I get called a racist, because of my name. I can't return anything, even if I need to, because of my name. I can't speak to anyone in authority, because of my name. How is this funny?

Barth’s colleague Steven Stosny claims that we’re currently living in the Age of Entitlement because our culture doesn’t support the development process that teaches us to balance our needs with the needs of others. And that’s one of the reasons that we have so many choosing beggars out there!

You probably got a special because your first books are new. I’m hoping that I’m understanding it correctly, that you’re publishing more because you’re more successful now. Guess what? I would choose a beautiful book cover over a bland one for the same story. How much of your success do you think is dependent on people who edit your work and help you with the artwork.
