Beggars can’t be choosers or at least they shouldn’t be. But we keep seeing that this isn’t the case—there are plenty of people out there who keep putting their needs ahead of everyone else’s and get featured in the incredibly popular Choosing Beggars subreddit.

This Reddit community has a whopping 1.9 million members and is dedicated to stories about people who are way too picky. Be sure to check out Bored Panda's previous posts about the Choosing Beggars community right here and here, and give their subreddit a visit for some more awesome content.

Meanwhile, scroll down and upvote your fave pics of people who really need to get a grip and let us know in the comments if you’ve ever had the “pleasure” of meeting folks like this in real life. Some people feel like they’re entitled to special treatment and they don’t even realize that they might be hurting someone else. There are psychological reasons for this, so let’s get into them.

Wow, how ungrateful. If someone offered to pay for my groceries I would put the non essentials back (if I had any).

I've done the same long before the viral problem shut us down. One particular happening was at an Asian take-out restaurant when an attractive young black lady tried to pay a $20 bill and had 3 failed credit cards. It was dinner time and her order appeared to be for her family (including young children). I was standing behind her and slipped a 20 dollar bill on the ground by her feet. I said to her that she had dropped something. I quickly paid for my food, exited, and then was confronted by a large black man outside (I can say that stuff as I am of Hispanic extraction) who stopped me in my tracks. I thought that today I am going to die (but I'm in my mid-70s and have had a full life, so.......). He said: "Hey, buddy - if there were more people like you the world wouldn't be in such a mess!" and then smiled and walked away. The reward to me was helping someone without acknowledgement, but the frosting on the cake was that fellow's comment. The world is wonderful place!

.......these sorts never last to long holding their tongues.. if one doesn’t give them the reaction they want the can get quite angry verbally.. all loudness and no substance eventually will lead to a pretty sad existence when older.. very shameful behaviour.

I would’ve told her never mind then, because if your rudeness you can figure out how to pay for your own groceries.

My sil is somewhat like this. We were all standing in line deciding what we were going to order and after everyone settled on what they wanted, we offered to pay for her and her bf's lunch. Once she heard that, she turned to her bf and told him they should change their order to something that cost twice as much since they weren't paying - and she was dead serious. I was dumbfounded.

Feeling special and entitled is entirely natural when you’re a child: kids think that they’re the center of the world and it’s what psychologists refer to as healthy narcissism. However, it’s only one stage of a person’s psychological and emotional development—they eventually need to grow out of it and learn to respect others and what they want, too.

According to psychotherapist and psychoanalyst F. Diane Barth, L.C.S.W, who has a private practice in New York City, sometimes a sense of entitlement can even emerge when people feel mistreated or they don’t think that they’re getting what they need.

“Often individuals who have been mistreated or disrespected exhibit a sense of entitlement when they start to feel that they deserve better than they have been getting. This is part of a healthy shift towards self-respect. Yet they, too, eventually need to find a way to balance self-respect with respect for others,” Barth writes on Psychology Today.

She points out that a small amount of entitlement is good for adults. Things like believing that we have the right to be respected by others and that we have the right to take care of ourselves and our loved-ones are positive things. But this doesn’t extend to situations where our actions or sense of entitlement benefit us at the cost of hurting those around us. Like cutting in line. Don’t cut in line. It’s a jerk move.

Barth’s colleague Steven Stosny claims that we’re currently living in the Age of Entitlement because our culture doesn’t support the development process that teaches us to balance our needs with the needs of others. And that’s one of the reasons that we have so many choosing beggars out there!

You probably got a special because your first books are new. I’m hoping that I’m understanding it correctly, that you’re publishing more because you’re more successful now. Guess what? I would choose a beautiful book cover over a bland one for the same story. How much of your success do you think is dependent on people who edit your work and help you with the artwork.
