Beggars can’t be choosers or at least they shouldn’t be. But we keep seeing that this isn’t the case—there are plenty of people out there who keep putting their needs ahead of everyone else’s and get featured in the incredibly popular Choosing Beggars subreddit.

This Reddit community has a whopping 1.9 million members and is dedicated to stories about people who are way too picky. Be sure to check out Bored Panda's previous posts about the Choosing Beggars community right here and here, and give their subreddit a visit for some more awesome content.

Meanwhile, scroll down and upvote your fave pics of people who really need to get a grip and let us know in the comments if you’ve ever had the “pleasure” of meeting folks like this in real life. Some people feel like they’re entitled to special treatment and they don’t even realize that they might be hurting someone else. There are psychological reasons for this, so let’s get into them.

Wow, how ungrateful. If someone offered to pay for my groceries I would put the non essentials back (if I had any).

Feeling special and entitled is entirely natural when you’re a child: kids think that they’re the center of the world and it’s what psychologists refer to as healthy narcissism. However, it’s only one stage of a person’s psychological and emotional development—they eventually need to grow out of it and learn to respect others and what they want, too.

According to psychotherapist and psychoanalyst F. Diane Barth, L.C.S.W, who has a private practice in New York City, sometimes a sense of entitlement can even emerge when people feel mistreated or they don’t think that they’re getting what they need.

“Often individuals who have been mistreated or disrespected exhibit a sense of entitlement when they start to feel that they deserve better than they have been getting. This is part of a healthy shift towards self-respect. Yet they, too, eventually need to find a way to balance self-respect with respect for others,” Barth writes on Psychology Today.

She points out that a small amount of entitlement is good for adults. Things like believing that we have the right to be respected by others and that we have the right to take care of ourselves and our loved-ones are positive things. But this doesn’t extend to situations where our actions or sense of entitlement benefit us at the cost of hurting those around us. Like cutting in line. Don’t cut in line. It’s a jerk move.

Barth’s colleague Steven Stosny claims that we’re currently living in the Age of Entitlement because our culture doesn’t support the development process that teaches us to balance our needs with the needs of others. And that’s one of the reasons that we have so many choosing beggars out there!

YAMINI wrote: "And poor choice of friends btw." Why are you blaming the victim? You know nothing about either person, and until a person has experience with someone, you don't know what they are going to do. Do you, Yamini, use a crystal ball to know exactly how people are going to behave in the future, before you know them very well? You must have special powers that you should market and sell!

When you realize that your "friend" is a thief. It is not a nice situation, I know it first-hand. Doesn't it make you mad when they lie to your face and expect you to join them in the charade?

I think that you owe this person an intervention with all of the biggest and most obnoxious people you know or can find. And then you owe them the cold hard truth: they are a thief and no longer welcome to contact you

Incredible, but I have had people do essentially the same thing to me. But never did they say "get whoever gave them to you to buy you new ones." What kind of person would think to even say such a thing? I hope they got their headphones back from this out-and-out THIEF.

Oh, hell no. I have a sister that used to pull that s**t on me all the time (she also stole the ring given to me by my deceased first boyfriend, but that's another story). She's one of those who shows up with a giant tote bag. I went to her apartment one time and literally went through her closet when she wasn't home ("borrowed" the extra key from my Mom). I couldn't believe the stuff I found (some of it belonging to my other sister - uh, no other sister DID NOT give you the watch she got from her daughter on her first Christmas). I took the lot and left her a really nasty note. She had the nerve to call & tell me she was calling the cops. I told her to go ahead, I had pictures of me wearing most of the items she'd stolen. That was probably 25 years ago. I think I've spoken to her maybe 4 times since (and never by choice). Do not miss her in the least.

I've lent expensive things to do called friends in the past ( at least three I can think of), and each time the item was lost/ stolen/ thrown into the street by a boyfriend during a fight and NOT ONCE did I get as much as an apology, never mind an offer to replace the things. 99% of people are self serving , selfish scum. Was a hard lesson to learn but thankfully now days I don't do that anymore.

You probably got a special because your first books are new. I’m hoping that I’m understanding it correctly, that you’re publishing more because you’re more successful now. Guess what? I would choose a beautiful book cover over a bland one for the same story. How much of your success do you think is dependent on people who edit your work and help you with the artwork.
