Board Game Publisher Shares Awkward Conversation With An Entitled Mom That Wants Things For Free
We’ve all seen plenty of ‘choosing beggar’ stories where people show an incredible amount of entitlement demanding things that any other person would never think of even asking. Well, despite the growing number of such stories and conversations, the sheer audacity of such ‘beggars’ never fails to surprise us.
One man recently posted an exchange he had with a person who claimed to be single mother on Reddit and it’s definitely fitting with the rest of the ‘choosing beggars’ squad.
One person recently shared a rather staggering interaction with a stranger

The woman contacted a board games publisher with an idea for her own game. Doesn’t sound too bad, right? Well, only until you realize she wants the whole thing done for free. Yup, you read right. She wanted the design, manufacturing and publishing all done for absolutely nothing from her side.
The board game publisher was approached by a “single mother” who wanted her idea brought to life for free
While the man first responded with helpful and respectful responses, it was soon clear that woman was having none of it. She insisted on having her idea brought to life for free. When the woman flipped the ‘single mother’ card, the man lost it and decided to punch back, so to speak.
Bored Panda has reached out to the man behind the post and he offered a small explanation to the situation. “Normally, I’ve tried not to quash anyones aspirations, and have helped a lot of toy/game people over the years (20+ in this category),” he explained. “As for my quips at the end: I’ll admit to being a little salty (I’m in my 50’s, OK Boomer situation) But this exchange left me flabbergasted. Her unwillingness (and delusional) attitude rubbed me raw.”

Share on FacebookIt's actually very common for people to think that ideas are valuable. It's hard to learn that they're not. I've spent about 5 years taking a board game idea to very close to reality, and I'll tell you two things: 1) the number of hours I've spent working on this are ridiculous, if I was working as slowly as she has been then it would take a lifetime to get to where I am, and 2) I've probably still got a lot of work ahead of me. If I just rang up a publisher and asked them to publish my game they would probably *still* laugh in my face. I need to take the game out to large cons, drum up interest, create a sell sheet and have an elevator pitch. When I'm ready I'll contact some publishers and if I've done my prep work well enough one of them might ask me to make a pitch. I need to SHOW them that the idea and the implementation are both good. Otherwise it's no better than an idea scrawled on the back of a napkin - and that's worth about the same as the paper it's written on.
You've got a really sensible plan - I hope you succeed!
Load More Replies...Just throwing this out there. Sometimes being a single parent is out of people's control. My husband walked out me and our 2 kids. Now I'm a single mom. I never wanted to be, but there it is. BUT what can be controlled is how I handle my situation. Do I struggle? Hell yes, I struggle. Am accepting more help from others than I want to? Absolutely. Do expect that help? Not for a second. It's so frustrating when "single moms" pull this kind of c**p. It gives the rest of us, who are just trying to pick up the pieces of a bad situation with as much dignity as possible, a bad name.
Any time someone plays the "single parent" card I want to do the opposite of what they want because it annoys the s**t out of me that they think I should care.
Come on, you know the earth revolves around them and their crotch berries
Load More Replies...Yes! It sounds really fun! I would have a laughing fit every time I read a new absurd card.

"But I'm a (insert demographic of your choice)..... gimme your stuff for free!!"..... soooooooooooo annoying!! >:(
Isaac Asimov once got yet another letter with the usual suggestion: the writer will give Asimov his "great idea for a story", Asimov will write it, and they'll share the credit. Annoyed, Asimov asked Campell, his editor: "why do they alway think the idea is such an important thing, and expect me to do all the work?" Campell replied, "did i occur to you it's the only idea they ever had? Naturally, they oferestimate its value".
I have NEVER asked for anything or tried to get some perk by playing the single parent card. I can't even imagine a situation where I would feel OK doing that. That's like asking someone to trade you their front row concert tickets cause you're short.
I'm quite certain most of these begging "single parents" aren't.
Load More Replies...The simple reality is that board game ideas are not copyrightable, only the design elements. So he ab-so-lu-te-ly doesn't want to see her images because (a) it's not his business model and (b) he doesn't want potential exposure to a lawsuit, as if by chance any element in any of his future games later accidentally resembles whatever she emailed (and he may not have even opened that email anyway but can't prove that).
I'm not sure, but I think Bored Panda "editors" search Reddit and other social media for attention grabbing stuff to post. I discovered Reddit through Bored Panda and am now hooked.
I'm a single mom of two. My sister lets me live with her. Am I entitled to anything. No. Why? Because even though I'm nice and also a loving mother. You don't get s**t for free. Plus most people hate me for being who I want to be so no one that I know really helps me. Besides like 7 people all together if I'm in really bad trouble.
Sort of an unrelated comment, but beggars, like actual homeless people, deserve the right to be choosers. What if they're vegetarian? If they have an allergy? Their religious beliefs don't allow them to eat pork? This whole "choosing beggars" thing is over-played. I agree that sometimes it's too much, but I think we need to rebrand it. Yes, preferences don't count, but the reasons I listed above should not label them as "choosing beggars". I've told my part.

Maybe her idea is great. Maybe it's the next big hit. But guess what, Karen? No matter how mind-bendingly amazing your idea is, this board game publisher makes their own things, and doesn't want or need your help. They tried to redirect you, they tried to help, and you just kept pressing. You will not get what you want that way. Stop being a child. I remember when I was younger I had this idea for a story, and my friends wanted to "help" me. I let them because I felt bad saying no, and I regret it. If I had just done my own thing and not accepted all that "help" I probably might have been able to make that story into a real book or film. I also would probably still be on speaking terms with said friends.
I’m a 3D model maker and printer, and the number of times I’m asked to give huge discounts or freebies because of “I’m a (insert demographic type)” or “I have (pick a disability/other reason)” is stupid.. and they wonder why I get salty..people who pull that s**t don’t deserve anything except a kick in the a*s..
I'm a 50-something person, born and raised on board games. But since the popularity of the internet and affordability of internet-based devices, just how popular are board games these days? Yes, I know there are still many people who enjoy them, but those numbers have to have dwindled down quite a bit. I love puzzles but haven't purchased a puzzle magazine in years. I'm all virtual now.
Why are there SO MANY of these on Bored Panda. Person asks for unreasonable thing and then is a huge jerk about.
Yes, why IS there so many of this click bait probably fake b******t on Bored Panda?

I worked at a condiment manufacturer, and helped cover customer service inquiries when needed... we had so many calls from random people saying how they have come up with the BEST tasting sauce that they just HAVE to sell us the recipe! I would have to explain to them that we don't BUY recipes from people and if they wanted to we would be happy to produce it for them, but they would be responsible for selling it - all 2,000 pounds of it (which was the smallest batch we could produce). I have never gotten so many people irate because they couldn't make a quick buck of their nasty-a*s barbecue sauce, salad dressing, etc...
Whole thing seems fake. Maybe I'll fake a text convo and get it published.
Clearly r******d to use such a ironic statement when demanding s**t for free
You do know that women don't become single mothers by choice, right ? You understand that sometimes people die before they are elderly? You understand that men routinely bug out and leave women with the kids and no money? Do you understand ANY of that?
Load More Replies...Yes but its not the same. Plenty of people still prefer physical objects and the in person interaction with friends. My brother and his wife, both of whom are 30, host a board game night with neighbors once a month
