Chemical Element Labels For Crayons Help Kids Learn Periodic Table While They Draw
Your kids love to draw, so why not have them learn the periodic table while doing it? This is idea behind Chemistry Crayon Labels, for sale for as little as 3 USD on the Que Interesante Etsy store. But how are the labels matched to crayons in a meaningful way?
A “flame test,” the analytic procedure to detect the presence of certain elements based on the color of flame produced, was used to determine the color. For example, barium burns green while lithium burns red. Just be ready for when your kids ask you to pass the “Boron” crayon!

Share on FacebookAaah fun...at least for people who understand a little chemistry. by the way it's not periodic elements but molecules (for most of them)...but I don't see the point of labelling a crayon "mercuric iodide" for children
Exactly! It´s as if writing the colours in Chinese and espect them to learn the languaje.

I wish these were around when I was a kid! The hardest it ever got for me was asking someone to pass the cerulean crayon! I think this is a great way to encourage learning.
The article says they are selling the labels, not the crayons, so you'd have to be pretty knowledgeable yourself to match these correctly (or need a match chart). And a lot of these are not elements at all.
Very few people have seen flourine gas, but there's a great Periodic Video on it, and they say it's yellow as a gas and yellow-green as a liquid. Is that not so? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtWp45Eewtw
P. S. I should have said there's a few potos showing a sort of peachy crayon labeled as flourine gas.
