The bee population has been in decline since the Second World War, so cheerios decided to help them. Firstly, they removed Buzz the bee from many cereal boxes to spread the word, and now they’re giving away 100 million wildflower seeds. This means that you can get a free pack to create a honey bee-friendly habitat in your own yard!
To be eligible for the 500 free wildflower seeds pack you have to live in the US, Canada, or the UK. After filling out a simple form, you should expect the pack to arrive in 4-6 weeks. Also, Cheerios has also promised to incorporate wildflowers into 3,300 acres (which is equivalent to 30 Vatican Cities) of its oat farms by 2020 as an act to save the bees.
All the buzz came just when bees need it the most. Increased pesticide use, widespread parasites, and the development of formerly wild spaces are threatening them all over the globe. This concerns all of us as well because a world without pollinators would be devastating for food production. Consider this: every 1 in 3 bites of food we eat is made possible by the bees and other pollinators. So take out your gardening tools, seed some beautiful flowers and let’s make hives great again!

Might want to read where the said seeds come from..Origin and such, non native seeds, pest seeds, and invasive seeds, not good for bees or natural habitat!
Absolutely, everyone needs to do their research before planting these seeds. In some regions a certain flower may be considered an invasive species. Nothing is wrong with the idea, but they should have made it region specific.
Load More Replies...Cheerios has the HIGHEST content of glyphosate of any cereal on the planet. Which kills bees. "Cheerio" means goodbye. They use a bee as their mascot...in our face killing the bees all the while pretending to save the bees. Goot lort.
Show solid proof/factual evidence of Cheerios having the highest glyphosate contaminants.

One of the problems Cheerios is having is that in several states some of the flowers are considered weeds and they don't want people to plant them. I.E. in western Washington buttercups are considered a weed, elsewhere they are bought to plant.
I plane both pink and white buttercups . Love wild flowers o

Planted my "wildflowers" turns out it was nightshade which is poisonous and invasive
"In 2018, EWG released two reports confirming the presence of the harmful pesticide glyphosate, the key ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup, in popular oat-based cereals, like Cheerios and Quaker oatmeal." This is a public relations scam. Call them out.
I have planted Cheerios seeds in the past and have no issues continuing to do so. Thanks Cheerios.
Look at how old the article is, my friend. Promos don't last for three years.
Load More Replies...Also Cheerios are not organic and rely on large scale monocropping so they’re massively contributing to the original problem...🤦🏻♂️ if they actually wanted to make a positive impact (and not just a fake csr campaign) they’d transition to organic.
If this was offered two years ago, and since I can't find a link to apply, has this been discontinued? A friend of mine just posted it today.
I don’t see where you sign up to get the seeds to plant? I would love to plant wildflowers on my acre & 1/2 lot that’s cleared out already. That would be nice to see the flowers & help the bees
Very hard to even find how to receive "free seeds"....where is the link to the seeds?
I plant many flowers in my garden for pollinators! Very glad to hear that Cheerios cares. I will save my free seeds for someone who can't afford them!
This article is several years old. I received seeds back then!

Apparently this is extremely invasive to our Native Alaskan ecosystem so I will not be doing this. A few other friends tried this is VA and discovered the same result
I don't believe it due to I entered a sweepstakes and won a Cheerios bee hive 2 years ago but they never delivered.
religion specific seriously, send me the seeds, I will plant them all over the damn place. This is the environment, IDGAF about being religion specific.
If people would stop spraying pesticides which kills the bees, and home owners stop using services such as Mosquito Man which their lawn sprays kill beneficial insects, the world would be a better place... I use mint oil, garlic, and other oils to repel mosquitos, fleas, ticks, and spiders...
Why don’t we do this. Go buy plants native to your areas that draw in bees and plant them. Do your part in your own communities to help. Stop relying on someone else to fix a problem we can all help with
I would love to plant more flowers for the bees we have many blooming trees and plants in my yard plus many trees 🌳 to help clean the air too
Why is this posting again as though it is current? Not the first time...unfollowing BoredPanda.
If you care .: .Stop using Round up and other pesticides Stop buying spring flowers sprayed with neospecricide with the sole purpose of killing bees 🐝 at Home Depot and Lowe’s - when you plant them at your hone they kill your bees too - these sprays should be banned
GMO'S IN THEIR FOOD CAUSE THE BEES TO GO EXTINCT AND COLONY COLLAPSE IN THE FIRST PLACE. ITS GOING TO TAKE ELIMINATING THE GMOS FROM THE FOOD AND FEED ANIMALS DIETS TO ELIMINATE THE SOURCE OF COLLAPSE. NOT BY SENDING A FEW PEOPLE 500 SEEDS THAT PROBABLY ARE ALSO BIOENGINEERED OR PKGD FROM COMPANIES THAT PRODUCE GMO SEEDS. MONSANTO.SEEDS PROBABLY AE WHATS BEING SENT.
I have searched this site over and over. Somewhere I am missing something. Where or what do you click on to get the seeds?
Bees are dying because of all the pesticides Monsanto has made that are used on crops, etc.
Which is great since Monsanto’s weed killer is found in their cereal. Also Quaker. Maybe stop trying to be praised for a band aid and stop using the thing that’s creating the wound? Hi I am killing bees with poison Here’s flower seeds Keeps killing bees with poison... um no
Which is great since Monsanto’s weed killer is found in their cereal. Also Quaker. Maybe stop participating in the problem....
If Cheerios wants to help bees, they can get the bee-killing GLYPHOSATE out of their cereal!
I would help the bees all I can because they do a lot for the plant we would have food or the beautiful flowers without them
I will plant wildflower seeds free or not, if it means more bees for our environment.
Hi 👋🏼 I noticed that this article is 2 years old. SO... I’m just wondering if you’re still sending out the FREE WILDFLOWER SEEDS! Last year was the first time I’ve ever had a garden and I planted a bunch of wildflower seeds. They were beautiful! I would sure appreciate those FREE SEEDS! Thank you!!! MelodyMcClure
I got them last year and they were great! The bloomed and were lovely and helpful.
This article has false information. Cheerios has zero links for getting free seeds and many of the external links don’t work.
This is false information. Their site lists zero places to sign up for seeds and several of the external GM links are not valid.
I still don't know how to get the wildflower seeds so I can further help the bees
IMG_2419.JPG I had honeybees in my house and had a guy come and rehive them
"Fill out a simple form." Where? Might be a good item to have in your article. sheesh
It’s too bad they are still spraying all there crops with round up, hence killing more bees than saving in addition to being contributors to the killing of more humans due to glyphosates... Down with Monsanto... “Honey Nut Cheerios Medley Crunch, made by General Mills, had the highest levels, with 833 ppb, and regular Cheerios had 729 ppb. Temkin says the EWG benchmark for children's health of 160 ppb is calculated on how much of a substance would result in one additional case of cancer in every million people over a lifetime.” https://www.webmd.com/diet/news/20190614/weedkillers-in-cereal-what-to-know
Way interesting comments....sadly, too many of us aren't savvy enough to catch this....I do mean myself! Thanks for the posts!
I have flower gardens and I know bees love roses, pansies, hibiscus flowers which is what I have now.
This is the worst idea ever! If you only worry about honey bees, which are not native to America, you will be taking away from the good for the native bees in each state. Sending flowers silly billy around the country is you destroy the plants for our natives. Wish a company this big would do a little research before actually causing more harm than good.
Can't find anything on the Cheerios website where they will send you wild flower seeds. They talk a lot about bees nd such, which is good inof, but no seeds.
never got mine! ordered them on May 1st.....waited 4-6, 7, 8, 9, 10 weeks....got NOTHING!!!!!
Planting these seeds may not be the best way to help pollinators. Native insects need native plants. More on that here: https://davissciencepolicy.wordpress.com/2017/04/14/8-bee-experts-weigh-in-on-pollinator-decline-cheerios-bid-to-save-them/
Way to go Cheerios, 100 million wildflower seeds is making a difference.
Stunning idea!!! I hope all the rest of the companies will start this awareness as well
Buying and planting your own flowers is something you can do without some company's bs.

Load More Replies...Look up "Saatguttausch" or "Saatgutbörse". People are exchanging seeds there. Most of the time it's vegetables but i guess you will always find some flower seeds too. And people are usually giving them away for free. If you harvest seeds from your own plants you will end up with too many to plant all by yourself anyway. =) I guess there are similar concepts in other contries too.
