No, These Are Not Cardboard! This Artist Makes Clay Look Like Used Cardboard
38Kviews
Cardboard cups? What the..? Oh wait wait, these aren’t paper, these are actually cleverly disguised clay cups by the ceramics virtuoso Tim Kowalczyk.
When he’s not teaching at Illinois Central College, Tim spends time in his home studio, creating these amazing ceramic illusions of whatever texture he chooses to mimic. To achieve results like that, Tim has to get pretty creative. For example, to make the cardboard cups and plates feel realistic, he glazes the ceramics in certain areas to make it look like there’s tape on them.
“Objects I am drawn to can be described as pathetic, absurd, antiquated, banal, or even garbage,” writes the artist. “Objects are chosen that lack unique significance. However, I imagine a sublime provenance in these ordinary objects.“

Looks intricate...but it most be unpleasant to keep them clean.
Agree, all I can think of are all the crevices where bacteria will set up shop.
clever but ugly as hell.
They're a bit too glitchy to look like real cardboard, but they do look great none the less.
