People Are Calling Out 24 Distasteful Things Celebs Have Said During The George Floyd Protests
Speaking out against the injustice in the midst of the George Floyd protests and Black Lives Matter movement is a responsibility we all share. But words are elusive, and if put in the wrong way and at the wrong time, can do little good.
No wonder so many people felt slightly offended by questionable statements and badly-timed posts coming from celebs these past days. One influencer was spotted showing off her manicure because "it's easier on the soul with beautiful nails" to go through all of this. Another influencer frustrated people by sharing vacation pics and urging everyone to stay strong. Oftentimes, these are just plain misunderstandings. We’re sure that everyone wants to do and say their best in the given situation, but sometimes, unintentionally, it goes against the plan.

Actress Rachel Griffiths Said "It's Easier On The Soul To Watch All This Happening With Beautiful Nails"
Bored Panda spoke to Mike Johansson, the principal lecturer in the School of Communication at Rochester Institute of Technology, about why some celebrities’ actions irritate people so much.
“It’s because too many people, for whatever reason, look up to celebrities. They feel they know them, they let them into their homes via social media, TV and movies, they feel they support them financially and therefore they expect them to use their celebrity for good causes,” explained Johansson.
Marina And The Diamonds' Tweet Offended People With Mental Illness
This one is tone deaf coz not all cops are killers or abuse their power and not all people with mental illness hurt people.
Shameik Moore's Tweet Said He Was "More Focused On Black Futures Than Black History"
Karol G Tweeted, "The Perfect Example That Black And White Together Look Beautiful. #blacklivesmatter'"
But what’s upsetting to some is that when “a celebrity doesn’t appear to understand the real world or at least each individual’s concerns of the moment, there is an abrupt disconnect between the celebrity and the individual.”
Johansson argues that the “crisis” of social media is partly due to the fans who are now able to see their celebrity idols making very human mistakes in real time. As a result, “the carefully managed image of most celebrities of the past is literally not possible if a celebrity is continually tweeting and posting on Instagram.”
Real Housewife Kelly Dodd Condemned Protestors, Saying "These People Are Losing Their Minds. This Is Terrorism On Our Land." Then Participated In #blackouttuesday
She may have meant to make a difference between the peaceful protesters and the looters. You can support the former and condemn the behavior of the latter at the same time.

Madonna Was Met With Backlash For Her George Floyd Tribute That Was Just Her Son David Dancing
Hey, again a man has been murdered by cops. Let's dance!!! It's the same as the celebs sitting in luxurious houses, singing Imagine for the people dying of Covid-19.
It’s not the first time celebrities have been criticized for being tone-deaf in the midst of difficult times. The critic-at-large Amanda Hess wrote in a piece for the New York Times that American pursuit of wealth through talent, charm, and hard work, which celebrities represent, “dissipates when society locks down.”
It’s true that during critical times, like the George Floyd protests and coronavirus pandemic, celebrities have an audience of traumatized people that is no longer willing to go with the social media flow. “[People’s] eyes are darting toward trending topics for clues to processing the unimaginable horrors looming just outside, and instead are finding Madonna bathing in a rose petal-strewn bath,” wrote Amanda. And this is where it gets infuriating.
No wonder many of us weren’t buying it when Ellen DeGeneres felt like she was "in a prison” in her huge mansion and Katy Perry lost track of the days in her enormous home. We previously wrote on celebrities sharing their quarantine experiences and people finding it offensive right here.

Meanwhile, Chris Rojek, professor of sociology at City University, London, believes that it’s not only the A-list privilege that frustrates so many. “I think one of the factors that is different about the virus is the sense that celebrities are appearing to the audience as irrelevant." “Whatever gestures celebrities have made, they’re as helpless as the ordinary person,” he told The Guardian.
In the context of the George Floyd protests, celebrities who are voicing their opinions are no longer helpless, though. It’s hard enough dealing with sensitive topics for many of us, but the A-listers should take even more responsibility for what and how they’re communicating things.

"Shout Out To His Family" - David Guetta Gave This Tone-Deaf Performance
Okay again I am not understanding how these are tone deaf. Is it because it is a white person trying to bring awareness in different formats to make people listen. Sometimes music speaks to people more than just saying them. I don't get it.
Tamannaah Bhatia Got Heavily Criticized For Her Tone-Deaf Post Tagged With #alllivesmatter
Black lives need to matter before all lives matter though. Right? Please don’t downvote.
Right. People misunderstand this one. They think that the message 'all lives matter' is better because we all matter equally. Sure, but the problem is that we're not starting from an equal place. Seen the sweet analogy anyone? If, right now, white people have 5 sweets and black people have 3 sweets then giving everyone 3 more sweets, equally, doesn't make people equal. White people still have more sweets. So you need to give black people more sweets to level things up. That is why right now Black Lives Matter. It isn't taking anything away from white people at all.
Load More Replies...Honestly, this doesn't come off as "tone-deaf" so much as "inane gibberish."
ummm... right now saying "all lives matter" gives the wrong message.
BLM does not mean all lives do not matter what that's just ridiculous. Right now black people are on fire and asking for our help. If your white u do not need help right now. If someone's actual house was on fire u wouldn't stop from helping to put it out by saying all homes matter. It's so counterproductive to these protests to hear people say this dumb c**p. They r not seeing beyond their own privilege
She did say all lives matter which goes directly against the protesters.

Lana Del Rey Was Under Fire Again For Posting Pictures Of Looters' Faces
What's bad with calling out looters? They aren't peaceful protesters.
Despite the introduction by the authors of this post not all entries are "most distasteful faux pas". You can support protests and still criticize looting. Please grow up.
John Adams wrote in his diary: The People should never rise, without doing something to be remembered—something notable And striking. This Destruction of the Tea is so bold, so daring, so firm, intrepid and inflexible, and it must have so important Consequences, and so lasting, that I cant but consider it as an Epocha in History. This however is but an Attack upon Property. Another similar Exertion of popular Power, may produce the destruction of Lives.

This post is weirdly uneven. There are some that are calling people out and making good points, and others that are misguided, overreactions, or just plain wrong.
I think the author has taken our feedback and removed some of the posts that weren't really tone deaf. One of the reasons I really like this site - they take feedback and make changes. If only society could work the same way!!
Load More Replies...To the author of this post - thank you for removing the message from Abhay Deol. His message was excellent and not at all tone deaf #poorlivesmatter. We need to eradicate poverty. It is one of the greatest sins of humanity. Our planet has more than enough resources for everyone - 8 people (EIGHT!!) shouldn't have the same amount of wealth as 50% of the world population - 8 = 3,900,000,000. Think about that.
What does it mean to be tone-deaf? I googled it but it's about music, I doubt that applies here?
Someone who is oblivious as to what the real issues are.

Agreed, but I don't watch reality TV, so I assume that is why I'm unfamiliar with most of them.
Load More Replies...The title of this post is misleading.. only a few of the posts were called out.
