The series of paintings Celebration is the result of a collaboration between Arty Jesse a straight gay friendly artist and a militant association, The Sisters of the Perpetual Indulgence, Convent of Paris, with a common goal : to bring to the viewer a reflection on the theme of the genre in a glamorous, playful and charitable way.

The first eight works were created in 2017 and exhibited at La Bellevilloise as part of the second LGBT Cultures Festival. In 2019, thirteen new paintings are added to the collection and were made public during the opening / happening on April 4th at the Pôle Simon Lefranc, a cultural animation center located in the heart of the Marais in Paris. This date was not chosen by chance. It coincides with the fortieth anniversary of the international organization The Sisters of the Perpetual Indulgence which was born in San Francisco on April 15, 1979.

Celebration marks the culmination of Arty Jesse’s plastic research begun in 2011 through the series Homo Sex Piens which illustrated the masculine discomfort of our time by reintroducing ambiguity and apprehending its duality. In 2016, the 3e Sexe series, exhibited at the LGBT Center and at Favela Chic symbolically illustrated the contemporary evolution of the masculine / feminine at the origin of the New Man, a universal creature both asexual and sexual. A mixed-gender being who pushes freedom and pride to a veritable paroxym.

Celebration represents the synthesis of this artistic reflection and the universal theme of identity is treated through a set of mirrors connecting Arty Jesse, the artist, the model and the viewer. The exhibition will generate its own dynamic and is accompanied by a movement, a global information affecting all audiences thanks to the kind participation of the Sisters of the Perpetual Indulgence. The crucial question of male / female discomfort remains the backstory. A political dimension comes from the stereotype.
