Worker Rescues Cat In A Bag Only Seconds Away From It Being Crushed By Garbage Machine
Today’s story may change what the expression “cat in the bag” means, as it won’t be as metaphorical as it initially suggests. On December 21st, the workers at the Gorkomhoz utility center in Ulyanovsk were surprised to find a cat in a bag, quite literally! The poor kitty in the bag eventually turned out very lucky, and probably used one of his nine lives, as he was picked up from a conveyor belt only a meter away from the separator that processes the trash.
Mikhail Tukash was the person who unknowingly saved the cat. They have to cut and check every bag on the belt line for metals, and as he picked it up, he didn’t suspect what contents he would find, because the cat neither moved, nor meowed. The cat probably used another of his nine lives, as the cut didn’t touch him. Mikhail looked inside and saw a set of beautiful cat eyes looking back at him. And the cat was out of the bag, a beautiful black and white one, at that.
The worker shook his head in disbelief and told everyone around him. They stopped the belt line to take a moment to comprehend what just happened. The cat was well-fed and well-cared for, so he was definitely a house cat and not a stray. They immediately took the cat to the veterinarian to check his health. It was determined that the cat had no injuries and had figuratively “landed on his feet,” as it were, making the reasons for the “disposal” by his previous owners even more unfathomable.
Here’s the crucial moments caught on camera:

He was immediately taken to the vet. He wasn’t harmed. The cat was definitely domestic

Mikhail Tukash, the employee who found the cat, was awarded a bonus

The cat was named as Deputy Minister of the Animal Protection department in Nature and Cyclical Economy Ministry of Ulyanovsk Region

However, the people at Gorkomhoz and Ulyanovsk officials were very happy to have salvaged such an unusual present right before Christmas. Mikhail Tukash, who has two cats of his own, was promised a bonus to his salary, and the cat himself was made a deputy Minister by the Minister of Nature And Cyclical Economy Gulnara Rahmatulina, responsible for the animal department. The cat is still waiting to get a new name along with his new identity and new role in the Ministry.

Incidents like this are on the rise in Ulyanovsk. An albino African pygmy hedgehog was salvaged in a similar fashion

Sadly, this isn’t the first animal who has ended up at Gorkomhoz like this. Just recently, two red-eared slider turtles were salvaged in a similar fashion, and a beautiful albino African pygmy hedgehog (also known as a four-toed hedgehog) who was afterwards named Vezunka. The workers and officials are puzzled by this tendency, and note that these incidents are on the rise. Thank goodness there are individuals and organizations that are happy to save them before it’s too late and take them under their wing.

Let’s hope that the news will deter such incidents from happening again

Share on FacebookI have no words for someone who would throw a living creature in the garbage. Well, actually, I have many words, but not any I can use on Bored Panda.
Proof positive that there is a growing percentage of people who are nothing but garbage themselves, and should be bagged up and thrown away as an object lesson to experience what they made the animals go through. Breaks my heart to think of how scary it must have been in that bag being thrown out, and how the betrayal—-by some they trusted to take care of them—-felt once it was realized. To put a live creature in a plastic bag and throw them away like garbage is an act of such callousness and cruelty I can’t find words awful enough to adequately describe it. I am amazed the poor babies hadn’t suffocated before their rescues—-and wonder how many aren’t found in time. Being a pet parent is as much of a commitment as being a parent to a human child. If you can’t fulfill your part of that commitment, then do not enter into it to begin with! If your fortunes change and you can no longer afford the commitment, then f*****g find someone else who can! Hell, send them to me. I’ll love them and keep them safe.
Bless you Kathryn Baylis, you've said far more eloquently that I can, exactly what I feel every time I read a story like this. Humans are responsible for domesticating dogs and cats, and it is our responsibility to care for their welfare.
Load More Replies...My son works as a mechanic in a MRF (Materials Recycling Facility) like this in Connecticut. The guys on the sorting line found a 5 wk old kitten in a box that had been taped shut. It was a miracle the little thing was still alive and hadn't been crushed in the truck. One of the guys brought it to my son who called me and I said bring that baby home! We named him Lucky and he now happily terrorizes our home! People just suck!
I thought maybe the animals crawled into the trash can or something, but if you actually put a living thing an a bag, condemning it to death, then you’ve got a serious problem. God rest your soul.
Que hijueputa el que hizo eso, los humanos no nos merecemos a los animales. Malparido de miérda.....
News like this that makes me go back to practicing witchcraft on animal abusers.
No living being deserves such a cruel fate, not even the people who did this. THAT’S how bad this is. People don’t see that animals are depending on us to protect them, it’s one of our only built-in jobs as citizens of Earth. Think of the value of that cats friendship / companionship. And we shouldn’t even have to justify an animal’s existence based on its value to us. But what a loss it would have been. It makes me cry.
I am wondering if this trend is increasing because people can't afford to feed their pets. I know throwing them away is disgusting, but I wonder how bad things have to be to throw your animals away in the garbage. I know it is probable that these are mean/cruel/heartless people, but what if they aren't? What if they were truly struggling and felt this was their only way out. I'd argue that releasing the animals into the wild would be kinder, but when things are really bad, we don't always think clearly.
Tabitha L: I disagree, but there is always a better way out. People have choices. This is the choice they made: the worst one possible.

Maybe someone wanted to throw away the bag and just did not notice that their cat climbed inside? My cats try to enter open bags and boxes all the time... As much as I want to believe that no one is evil enough to throw away a cat in a bag - I even more hope there is no poor person somewhere frantically searching for their vanished kitty at this moment!
Trust me, this was 100% not and accident. Hundreds of cats and dogs are thrown away like that in Russia every year, there are many stories about such cases in the Russian social network. People can be real monsters.

My friend's neighbor was unhappy that my friend's cat was in their yard, killed the cat and left its head on my friend's doorstep. :( So yeah, this might not have been the owner's doing.
Dumping any living thing that trusted and loved you, is the lowest most despicable act of human indignity and total lack of anything that qualifies them as the same species. Man does s**t because he can. It's just a cat. Just a dog. Just a black person. Just a wife. I understand easier how one can take a human life that I ever will the life of an animal just living and giving more than it takes. They don't outgrow shoes, they don't require food They are not accessories for ones purse. Try stuffing your toddler in one. We take on the responsibility of caring for them. Just like children. They grow, they get sick. For the clueless, better choice would be an animal who's fur is synthetic, who never gets hungry, as they are stuffed full of fluff. They don't get bigger or tear up your overpriced chi chi shoes, piss on anything, no poop clean up nor do they ever age. The child who loves their hair off and can't find their eyes, throwing them away is just as heartbreaking. Shame on them.
As a father of two cats, this infuriates me. Humanity never ceases to disappoint.
Well, looks like the cat’s out of the bag... But seriously, people are messed up. Maybe the person that threw it out should go on a ride through the sanitation system, it’s only fair.
I have no words because I'm too busy crying... the thought that anyone could do this to an innocent animal is just beyond me. How do people like this live with themselves? I'm glad to see Kitty is in a safe, warm and happy place now. And I wish kitty well in his new life and role! However, I also wish a whole world of suffering on the people that are cruel enough to just throw an animal away like that. They are the true garbage.
They got a raise! In America you would have been fired for stopped the conveyor belt...
I have a cat myself, and I would never sentence him to death like this. I do understand that COVID_19 has created an even worse financial crisis, but throwing your pet into the TRASH and leaving them to be CRUSHED or SUFFOCATED to death is NO WAY to go. If you are going to do that so easily, why'd you get a cat in the first place?
Some people are a total waste of skin. That kitty's name should be "Lucky!"
It’s just lovely that the refuse worker that found this beautiful kitty was given a bonus - and even more lovely that sweet kitty now has a ministerial position! Good humoured kindness like this restores faith in human nature, unlike the horrible people who throw animals out in the rubbish.
I am definitely hoping for a follow up where we find out the owner has been desperately searching for their cat.
What if it was an accident? If the cat appears well cared for and calm, unfearful of people, doesn't that mean it came from a decent home environment?
I watched the video. The bag was tied up. It's rather unlikely that the cat crawled into the bag and tied it up himself.

My heart broke and the grabbed a bandaid from its very onw supply it has on hand. Never went through them like this in the past. But my heart doesn't have a whole lot more it can have broken and still keep beating. And I can only hope and pray we learn something from this crappy grand finale of much more than 2020. But of our decline and slide we didn't bother to notice. If this is our evolutionary next step, I'm glad I'm not going to be here to see it. The dumbing down was bad. The removal of that which defines us as a person I want no part of. Ugly, greedy and selfish is not for me.
Jerks who throw animals out like trash justify birth control and abortion.
