The Way This Cat Returns Home After Going Missing For 5 Years Is More Unbelievable Than This Fact Itself

True friendships always find a way of lasting. Nguhi Muturi from Dallas, Texas, got a kitty when she was only nine years old. “I loved him to pieces and used to write about him for every daily journal entry in school,” she told the Press Association. “We adopted him when he was a kitten months after we moved into this home.” Nguhi and Panther happily lived together until the girl grew up and had to leave for college. However, during this time, Panther left as well.

“He slipped out of the house and never came back.”

After a while, Nguhi made peace with her loss and moved on. Five years and a few crazy twists of fate later, a cat resembling Panther showed up at the Muturi’s house. After Nguhi’s parents got suspicious, they organized a thorough paw inspection. You see, their long-lost feline had no claws on his front paws. And by an amazing twist of fate, the cat was Panther, hanging out in the same spot he used to, five years after he went missing.

It turns out that after he ran away, Panther was taken to a shelter in a city 15 miles away. Whilst there, a woman adopted and kept him for a few years before giving him to her parents. As luck would have it, the woman’s parents also turned out to be the next door neighbors of Nguhi’s parents.

“I can’t believe this is real because I am still in shock,” Nguhi wrote on Twitter. The neighbors insisted Panther should stay with her former owners, but they decided this was not possible and gave him back, since a new cat and dog were already growing up in their home. “It was heartbreaking but I can’t even be sad [because] today was truly surreal.”

They lived together until 5 years ago when Panther just disappeared

After a while, Nguhi made peace with her loss and moved on. Until this happened

Wait.....what? Declawed the front paws of your cat? That's terrible. I so want to be touched by this story, but can't get over this terrible kink in the story. Declawing. Why would you want your cat to suffer just so he....what? Doesn't accidentally scratch you? I'm just flabbergasted. Please read up on what you do to your cat when you declaw his paws, even if it's 'only' the front.

I completely agree with you. I cannot be "touched" by this story after knowing that these people declawed the poor animal. The procedure is inhumane, painful, and should be illegal. It's exactly the same as if a doctor were to cut off the final phalanges off your fingers: your entire fingertips! Fortunately, it's illegal in Catalonia, where I live (cutting dogs' ears and tails is also illegal--any form of mutilation). Another thing: didn't the family try asking at shelters if anyone had found their cat? No, I just can't with this story. This beautiful creature deserved much better.

Perhaps you may let the cat decide where it wants to live. And it could also be a parttime cat. And ... please please please never ever declaw a cat! They can't climb without claws, they can't defend themselves outdoors, they can't catch their prey. They can't be cat!

If you declawed your cat, or are thinking about it, go get your nails ripped off. Then think again, if you want to have your pet suffer the same. Just cause the cat can't say IT HURTS, doesn't mean he is okay with mutilation.

Something similar happened with my cat Sugar. We had temporarily moved into an apartment that didn't allow pets while our house was being built, and so my sister was looking after her until we could take her back. Sugar escaped, and eventually found her way to our old house in our old neighbourhood a year later. Please kiss Panther on the head for me.

God sake! Seriously people are arguing about declawing her cat? I didn't declaw my cat but I think there's nothing wrong with that. Cat's scratch might be dangerous if the cat play in dirty soil and accidentally bring bacteria or even worm's egg. And they can get into your skin even directly to your blood stream if your cat scratches you. Also cat's presence can be dangerous for local bird population if they can hunt with their claw. Nothing wrong with that, especially if you have little kids. Don't judge them please

Declawing was a lot more common a decade or two ago, it was widely recommended by vets, much like the crazy stuff we do to our own bodies that goes out of fashion, foot binding, circumcision-female and male, ear piercing of babies-still very common. Don't be so quick to condemn or judge.
